Carla Is Woody Allen's First Lady

Let's hope Woody Allen is planning on recreating his recent success with Vicky Cristina Barcelona and not the shame of duds such as Match Point, Scoop and Cassandra's Dream as he has a very important and influential star on board, with a husband who wouldn't take kindly to it coming up short.
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of French President Nicolas, has agreed to try out acting for the legendary director - having already added politics to the modelling and musical strings on her bow.
Although she has already agreed to be in his next film, she admits that she knows nothing about the role she is set to play or even whether she will be able to act: "I'm not at all an actress. Maybe I'll be absolutely terrible."
But she said that she had entered into the project, despite the lack of details offered to her, because it was an

France's first lady has agreed to be in a Woody Allen film. She's such an obvious choice, we should have predicted it
Why on earth didn't we predict it long ago? France's first lady, Carla Bruni, has revealed that Woody Allen has asked her to be in one of his films, despite her complete lack of acting experience. And she has said yes.
Bruni – of course! She is a quintessential Minor Woody Allen Character: sexy, wealthy, European in that luxury-hotel sense that he adores, liberated in a pre-feminist sort of way, with creative aspirations that are preposterous but which powerful, besotted men might well indulge in the hope of getting inside her exquisitely tailored culottes.
Bruni is the classic unattainable woman from a golden-age Woody Allen picture: the sort who might get a party-scene cameo, towering sexily over him while giving her deadpan opinions on literary or artistic topics – opinions with which he,

Yet another actress is reported to be under consideration for a possible role in the next Spider-Man film.
This time it's Anne Hathaway joining the queue of female contenders.
Her previous credits include Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada and Becoming Jane.
According to a report by Movie Scoop, and subsequently Deadline Hollywood, producers of Spider-Man 4 have approached the 27-year-old actress to star in the film.
No role was specified but fan speculation suggests it's Felicia Hardy aka the villainous love interest Black Cat.
Movie Scoop says, however, that the star is in line to play a character called Valeria while Deadline Hollywood confirms Hathaway won't replace Kirsten Dunst who is already cast to reprise the role of Mary-Jane Watson.
Hathaway is the fourth actress to be linked to the film following earlier rumours centring on Rachel McAdams, Romola Garai and Julia Stiles.
McAdams denied the reports and Garai

The title of Woody Allen's next film has just been revealed: it's the somewhat elongated You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger. After his return to New York for Whatever Works, and his Spanish detour for Vicky Christina Barcelona, Allen's latest brings him back to the UK, al la the "trilogy" of Match Point, Scoop and Cassandra's Dream. The funding set up is the same as Vcb's, with Allen co-producing alongside the Spanish Mediapro: the second project of a projected four.As always, the cast is the thing. This time Allen has rounded up Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts (replacing Nicole Kidman), Gemma Jones, Freida Pinto and Lucy Punch. The plot, as sketched by the Hollywood Reporter, "revolves around different members of a family, their tangled love lives and their attempts to try to solve their problems", which is as good as telling us nothing, except that it's not a thriller.

It should not be surprising that a famous Hollywood star is the face of a luxury brand. They seem to have their face on everything these days, from watches to designer clothing and even European cars. But when quintessential champagne house, Möet & Chandon, for the first time in champagne marketing history elects to use a famous actress to be their ambassador, and that celebrity happens to be Scarlett Johansson, it is a beautiful amalgamation befitting the hype.
Since her springboard to worldwide fame with Sofia Coppola's Lost In Translation, Johansson has been delighting audiences with a range of roles encompassing gritty dramas, period features and mainstream romantic comedies (A Love Song For Bobby Long, The Other Boleyn Girl, He's Just Not That Into You), and in recent times has been the muse of Woody Allen (Match Point, Scoop, Vicky Cristina Barcelona).

Rio de Janeiro offers incentives to host Woody Allen’s next film

We often talk about movie locations and one director who completely embodies them is Woody Allen. The Jewish New Yorker uses the locations in his movies as an extra character, something always there and directly affecting the themes of the film. His early titles like Manhattan and Annie Hall instantly conjure images of the hustle and bustle of New York while his London films, Match Point, Scoop and Cassandra’s Dream, capture the lifestyles of the capital’s elite against the gritty setting. And now another city is hoping Allen will work his magic for them as Rio de Janeiro is offering $2 million in subsidies to attract him to the Brazilian town.

Woody Allen has said that he waits until his films are completed to name them because he likes the titles to reflect how good they are. The director told The Daily Telegraph that he has not yet named his current movie, the fourth film he has shot in London after Match Point, Scoop and Cassandra's Dream. Allen said: "I never title a movie until it's finished because if I look at the film and it's no good I don't like to give it an aggressive title. "I give it what I call one of my hiding titles - the kind of title that is low-key and promises nothing, so people are less disappointed (more)

After being cold-shouldered by the Us studios, Woody Allen turned to globe trotting for both the finance and the settings for his projects. Match Point, Scoop, Cassandra's Dream and his untitled 2009 project have all been set in London, Vicky Cristina Barcelona took place in, well, Barcelona, and now it looks as though he's heading to Brazil for his 2011 production.
As well as shooting in Brazil, it looks like Allen will be take some funding for the project from the country too. I read in Brazzil Mag that two different Brazillian production companies are looking to come onboard, Conspiração and 02. As far as I know, there's no reason they can't each chip in. In just a couple of weeks, Allen's producers Stephen Tenenbaum and Letty Aronson will be in town to negotiate:
In the first week of October the duo will be landing in São Paulo where, for two days,

Hugh Jackman Goes From Wolverine To ‘Avon Man’

Those who were satisfied with their dose of Wolverine this summer will have to readjust their views on Hugh Jackman for his next role. Jackman is set to swap his sharp claws for beauty products as he is going to be starring in the comedy, Avon Man.
Variety is reporting that through a high-six figure deal, 20th Century Fox has acquired Avon Man. The Kevin Bisch (Hitch) penned comedy is being set up as a star vehicle for Jackman. The man himself, with his Seed Productions co-partner, John Palermo, is set to produce the film along with Gary Foster at Krasnoff Foster Entertainment. No director has been brought on-board as of yet.
Avon Man follows a laid off car salesman who reluctantly is recruited as a salesman for Avon (yes, the cosmetic company), and uses his charm and good looks to become a top seller. Described as having a “Full Monty vibe,

Hugh Jackman Will Sell 'Avon' -- Seriously?

Would you buy makeup from Wolverine? Hugh Jackman wants to sell beauty products, and 20th Century Fox has obliged, according to Variety, buying a comedy pitch titled Avon Man as a star vehicle for the actor. It's the latest in a string of possible projects for him.
Jackman last exercised his funny bone with Woody Allen's Scoop in 2006; before that, you'd have to rewind all the way to Kate and Leopold in 2001 for a straight comic effort. Of course, even in his dramatic roles he's always got a wisecrack or quip at the ready, and his recent stint hosting the Academy Awards no doubt boosted his comedy credentials. If Avon Man develops as it was pitched, it would be a sweet-smelling, fully-clothed Full Monty. Jackman would play a laid-off car salesman who is recruited to become an Avon rep: "While the experience is initially emasculating," [really?] "he uses his charm

Whatever Works
Directed by: Woody Allen
Cast: Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood, Patricia Clarkson
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: June 26, 2009 (Limited)
Plot: An intelligent misanthrope (David) has an unlikely relationship with a girl from Mississippi (Wood) who is nearly 40 years younger than him.
Who’s It For? Woody Allen fans, especially those who can appreciate his lighter fare. Whatever Works is also for people who want to experience dating comedies that are a bit more fruitful and still incomparable to the other stuff coming out today.
Expectations: After a morbid trip to London (Scoop, Cassandra’s Dream) and a spicy trip to Spain, (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), it seemed like Woody would be settling back in the coziness of both New York City and making light comedies about young women being enamored with old dudes.
Scorecard (0-10)

Larry David as Boris Yellnikoff: Only a couple of episodes

Before we get too far – Woody Allen’s Whatever Works is far from the Worst choices at theaters this week. (That title belongs to a little sequel based on a toy line.) But it does stick to the pattern of Allen's career in that he usually follows a hit with a miss. Just as Scoop followed Match Point, Whatever Works follows Vicky Cristina Barcelona. So, why not wait out the next “comeback” and go back to the video store or your Netflix queue this weekend instead of seeing a sub-par Allen script that he ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com

Eric Kohn at indieWIRE:
"Marked by interchangeably trite and witty dialogue, Whatever Works is the definition of a minor Woody Allen movie. The director’s triumphant return to New York City after several years of European excursions finds him in familiar, if not exemplary, form. Most people on the Allen bandwagon will likely view this outing as a charming mediocrity."

Frank Scheck in The Hollywood Reporter:
"Marking Woody Allen’s first NYC-shot film in five years, Whatever Works, falls somewhere in between his lesser London efforts Scoop and Cassandra’s Dream and his return to form with Vicky Cristina Barcelona. While this comedy starring Larry David doesn’t break any new ground for its creator in either style or content, it features enough genuine laughs to give it decent commercial traction, at least in the big cities.

Nicole Kidman is coming to London, as female lead in the Woody Allen's as yet untitled next project. Joining an already stellar cast including Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas and Slumdog newcomer Freida Pinto, Kidman will play alongside her real life best friend Naomi Watts.Speculation is rife about a plot, but as with other Allen films, storyline and name may remain a mystery for some time - but it looks likely that it will involve a fair amount of romantic tension, if casting and past projects are anything to go by.The new project will hope to outdo Alllen's other recent jaunts in London - Scoop and Match Point - since his return to form in Vicky Christina Barcelona. Indeed, this project is bankrolled by the same Spanish backers who made Vcb.And Kidman will seek to strip off the "box-office poison" moniker she has picked up

Woody Allen is just about done on his next film, Whatever Works, so naturally casting is already underway for the following one* - and Antonio Banderas has signed on for the as-yet untitled Woody Allen 2010 film. The film will be back in London, where we hope it will be more Match Point and less Scoop. Banderas joins Naomi Watts, Freida Pinto, Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in the film, the plot details of which are still under wraps.Filming's due to start this summer, so if you see someone behaving neurotically in the capital during that season, look around for a camera-crew at work nearby.*History dictates that this one will be a relative disappointment following the success of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, so Banderas should be in the next "return to form".

Freida Pinto Is Woody Allen’s New Ingenue -- So suck it Scarlett Johansson!

Striking while the Oscar is hot, Freida Pinto - the insanely beautiful star of “Slumdog Millionaire” - has agreed to join Woody Allen’s latest mystery project. According to Variety, Pinto will fill the all-important “ingénue” role in the film which begins shooting in London this spring. Scarlett Johansson had been Allen’s ingénue of choice in recent years but apparently Woody believes it’s time for a change… and as someone who has seen “Scoop”, I would have to agree. The unnamed movie also stars Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins so, as usual, Allen has scored himself a dream cast. Who knows? Freida Pinto may even wind up with an Academy nomination of her own this time next year. But what am I saying? The ingénue never gets the good lines in a Woody Allen movie – and Penelope Cruz and Dianne Wiest will thank him forever
