This film is something rare for a low budget indie: a simple story, well told, with no gimmicks.
The other reviews speak enough about the plot and characters, so I'll address the film-making technique itself.
I hesitate to define it by all the things it isn't, but here's a few things it DOESN'T have that help make it so good: - shaky camera - amateur acting - bad sound - overbearing soundtrack - rapid cutting to cover up poor performances
And the list goes on.
I'm very appreciative of a movie that has a good script, great acting, and tells the story in a straightforward (but not boring) way.
This movie works well on many levels, and is a shining example of what a few dedicated filmmakers can do with no money and a lot of talent. I urge you to go to the official site and read the filmmakers' blog. It's as well done and thoughtful as the movie itself.
In fact, if you're thinking about making a low budget movie yourself, then it should be required reading.
