Director/choreographer Adam Shankman has only been the co-producer of the Oscars for three weeks. But Shankman and his co-producer Bill Mechanic, former head of Twentieth Century Fox, have managed to lock down the biggest part of the job, the host. We talked to Shankman about wrangling veteran Oscar emcee Steve Martin and Academy newcomer Alec Baldwin. EW: You must be thrilled and relieved to have this part of the job figured out? Shankman: You have no idea. That’s always the big opening stress. I love that I’m going to be working so closely with two people that »

Apparently it takes two hosts to rival Hugh Jackman’s performance from last year’s Oscar ceremony. Jackman said he wasn’t interested in hosting two years straight and the “Tropic Thunder” duo of Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. also turned down the offer, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin have stepped up and will attempt to make the four-hour ceremony bearable for those watching at home.
While last year’s Oscars were surprisingly good under Bill Condon’s (”Dreamgirls”) direction, I have far less faith in Adam Shankman (”Bedtime Stories”) to come anywhere close to the bar Condon set. I think given the right material, Baldwin and Martin have the comic talent to help usher along the night. However, Baldwin’s unrivaled work on “30 Rock” is half-due to the show’s amazing writing staff and as for Martin, well…he not only starred in the “Pink Panther” remakes, he wrote them. »

Let's make one thing perfectly clear regarding today's announcement that Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman are on board as producers of the 82nd Academy Awards; they were not AMPAS' first choice. In fact, they weren't even the second or third. It's true that the Academy asked last year's successful duo Larry Mark and Bill Condon to return, but neither wanted to commit with upcoming projects keeping them preoccupied. But if anyone thinks Shankman, who resume includes such uninspired dreck as "Bringing Down The House" and "Cheaper by the Dozen 2," was the next phone call the Academy made is living... »

Director, producer, and choreographer Adam Shankman has landed two new Hollywood gigs. The first is an adaptation of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” for New Line Cinema, and the other is producing the upcoming 82nd telecast of the Academy Awards.
“Ages” is a jukebox of 80’s rock anthems from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Asia. The film centers on an aspiring musician and an actress who fall in love against the backdrop of classic rock.
According to Variety, Shankman hopes this will be, “Mamma Mia! for dudes.” Maybe it’s just me, but he might be overestimating how many “dudes” want to see choreographed dance moves to “We Built This City.”
Shankman, who directed Hairspray and is preparing for Hairspray 2, is no stranger to song and dance films and is currently a permanent judge on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance. »

Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Adam Shankman has fortunately found another musical to direct following his success with the "Hairspray" remake. Variety reports that he's set to helm the movie version of Broadway's "Rock of Ages," which incorporates popular '80s rock anthems, such as Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna take It," into a Sunset Strip-set love story about an aspiring musician and a girl who's just off the bus.
Shankman, who also made the hilarious online short "Prop 8: The Musical" and will be doing a "Hairspray" sequel, feels he knows the material well enough from having worked on an Extreme video back in the early '90s and from growing up with a dad in the music biz. He also was a choreographer on "Boogie Nights," which means he probably has experience setting a scene to Night Ranger's "Sister Christian," one of the songs appropriated »

I’ve only walked out of two movies in my entire life: Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and, last week, Post Grad. I’ve come close to walking out of others but something or someone always gets me to stay in my seat. I first saw the trailer for Post Grad when I went to see I Love You, Beth Cooper (a movie that took every fiber of my being to sit through). I’ll be honest with you; I am recently out of college and jobless. I don’t know what made me think I could relate to Post Grad, but I knew I’d have to see it. If you read my last article, you know that I am also an absolute sucker for coming of age films. The added advantage that I have is the Optimum Rewards Card. If you have Optimum phone, internet and cable services, »

Before starring in 2008’s Twilight, you might have seen Taylor Lautner in a couple of children’s films, but now, even cave-dwellers can’t miss this young star. At a mere seventeen years old, the world knows this young man’s name – and will be hard-pressed to forget it any time soon. Beginning as a martial artist, Lautner’s main goal in childhood life, it seemed, was karate. Adorned with numerous awards for his stellar and ahead-of-his-time talent at this craft, Lautner endlessly impressed on-lookers and was once laughingly accused of show-boating by one news anchor. Yet, that was not all Lautner was good at – or loved. When he was seven, he began to pursue an interest in acting. Taylor Lautner got his start back in 2001 as Kismet in Shadow Fury. Paying his dues in small featurette roles in such series as Summerland and The Bernie Mac Show, Lautner climbed »

It's official. Here's the press release as posted by Ain't It Cool News:
Taylor Lautner To Reprise His Role As Jacob In New Moon
Los Angeles, CA January 7, 2009 – Summit Entertainment and director Chris Weitz are pleased to confirm that Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise’s next film installment New Moon.
“I'm very happy that Taylor will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit, the producers and Stephenie Meyer,” said Weitz. “The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books »
