Robin Williams plays the late night radio show storyteller – part Garrison Keillor (minus the sense of whimsy) and part Jean Shepherd – who befriends a dying young listener with a harrowing past. Behind the letters and phone calls, however, is a mystery carefully hidden by the adoptive mother (Toni Collette), a blind woman who effectively keeps the boy unseen by every living soul – as if he never really existed. Based on a novel by Armistead Maupin which was inspired by his own experiences, the drama co-stars Bobby Cannavale, Joe Morton, Rory Culkin, and Sandra Oh. Patrick Stettner directs.
