Just saw SPOTLIGHTING. Really enjoyed it. I was afraid when I heard the synopsis the piece would just be making fun of the idea of "middle aged Asian American Lounge Lizards". But the filmmakers did a great job of just letting the subjects be, with all the layers. Even though the tone may appear light, there is so much more underneath it. They are, after all, immigrants from the Phillipines. Exposed to Rock 'n Roll mainly through the US military presence there. Their journey to the US was in the 50's, where the "American Dream" was much different than now. Assimilation was obviously a huge part of their psyche. All this wrapped up in their dream/ profession - performers.
