Here's a quick Halle Berry casting update. The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to star in "Dark Tide," an action flick to be directed by Clark Johnson, helmer of "S.W.A.T." and "The Sentinel."
Amy Sorlie wrote the script, which follows a diving instructor returning to the deep after a dangerous encounter with a Great White shark. At this stage, that seems like one heck of a boring ride. »

Is Shark Week over yet? I love shark movies, everything from Jaws to Deep Blue Sea. I've been waiting to see that Meg movie, but since that probably won't be happening for a long time, I'll settle for this. Variety reports that Halle Berry has joined the cast of a new action-thriller titled Dark Tide. She will play a diving instructor who returns to the deep after a near-fatal incident with a Great White shark. Unfortunately this guy probably won't be a genetically enhanced shark (like in Deep Blue Sea), but I have feeling it will be as life-like as they can make it, adding more thrill to the experience. Shooting will start later this year. The screenplay for Dark Tide was written by newcomer Amy Sorlie and also developed by literary manager Sukee Chew. Swat and The Sentinel director Clark Johnson will be directing with Twilight producers Marty Bowen »

Halle Berry is locking down details of a deal to star in the action thriller Dark Tide. Clark Johnson, last seen directing The Sentinel, is in charge of the film, which finds a diving instructor returning to the sea after a nasty, near-fatal incident with a Great White Shark. The ridiculously beautiful Halle Berry has signed on to star as a diving instructor in Dark Tide, which means at some point she's likely to have to wear a bikini / skin-tight wetsuit. By our calculations, that translates to at least $400 million at the box office. The thriller, set to be directed by Clark Johnson (City Editor Gus in The Wire, director of The Sentinel and S.W.A.T.), has Berry's character returning to the sea after a near-fatal encounter with a great white shark. And then action and thrills follow - we're not sure how yet.The film's due to shoot in South Africa later in the year, based on a script by Amy Sorlie. Keep an eye out for this one sometime late next year. In the meantime, you're going to have to keep watching that worn-out copy of Into The Blue. »

Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) won’t be leaving the Big Apple anytime soon. The actor, who is currently appearing in "The Bacchae" as part of New York City’s annual Shakespeare in the Park, will be sticking around to shoot The Adjustment Bureau, based on a Philip K. Dick short story.
According to Variety, Mackie has been cast in Universal’s sci-fi thriller alongside Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. George Nolfi, who previous wrote the screenplays for Ocean’s Twelve and The Sentinel, and co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum, will direct from his own script.
Mackie, who has had a successful on-Broadway and off-Broadway career, recently starred in the critically-acclaimed The Hurt Locker, playing a member of an Army bomb-disposal unit.
The plot of The Adjustment Bureau revolves around a smooth-talking congressman whose political future is thrown into uncertainty by the arrival of a mysterious ballerina. The project marks the »

Kim Basinger is set to join Zac Efron in Burr Steers' upcoming drama "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud," with Universal Pictures developing the project.
Based on the novel by Ben Sherwood, the film follows Efron as a cemetary caretaker who meets weekly with a younger brother, who recently died.
Variety says Basinger will play the grieving mother of the lead character. Also starring as Efron's love interest is Amanda Crew.
Basinger's more recent credits include "Cellular," "The Sentinel" and "The Burning Plain." Good to have her back on the big screen.
Btw, "Cloud" marks Efron's second collaboration with the director after "17 Again. »

That headline may be just a bit misleading. The project is titled The Adjustment Bureau and is a sci-fi love story based on the Philip K. Dick short story titled "Adjustment Team" (found in this collection). THR announces that Emily Blunt will star opposite Matt Damon in the film, which is being written and directed by screenwriter George Nolfi (Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum). Universal is developing the project with Media Rights Capital. It sounds like this will be going into production soon and be the next project for both Blunt and Damon, however, no start date was announced in the THR article. "Adjustment Team," first published in 1954, has similarities to Alex Proyas' Dark City. Ed Fletcher, a real estates salesman, finds out that our world is really one big soundstage controlled by strange and mysterious guardians. Nolfi's version follows a congressman (Damon) instead, on the rise »

So it looks like Twitter really is becoming a good resource for updates. Producer Frank Marshall wrote a few updates on his Twitter (twitter.com/LeDoctor) recently related to Bourne 4, the in-development fourth sequel in the Jason Bourne series. "Bourne 4 is in the works for Summer 2011," Marshall wrote. He later added in another update that "George Nolfi is the writer of Bourne 4, [and he] should have a draft by June," mentioning that, "it really takes long to get these scripts right!" Of course! And especially on something like this, I'm more than happy that Marshall is taking as much time as he needs and not rushing into it. Our last update on Bourne 4 hit in October, when it was officially confirmed that George Nolfi (of Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum) was writing the script and that Paul Greengrass was back on board to direct. Providing an update to another installment of "Bourne" films, Matt Damon has come up with a confirmation that a fourth "Bourne" movie is indeed in development. The Academy Award-recipient gushed on the "Untitled Bourne 4 Project" matter in the interview with Parade Magazine.
Asked whether his return to play Jason Bourne for a fourth time has been made official, Damon responded, "We're working on it." Explaining more on the project, he said, "This time it would be from an original script rather than a book by Robert Ludlum. But the director, Paul Greengrass, is busy and I am too, so we'll see what happens."
On whether or not he is ready to reprise his role, he stated that age will be his biggest obstacle. "Listen, when I did the first movie, I was 29 years old. I am 37 now," the star of "The Departed" confessed, "and after a tough fighting scene, the »

Universal Pictures is finalizing a deal with Media Rights Capital for The Adjustment Bureau, a contemporary love story with sci-fi overtones that was written and will be directed by George Nolfi, his directorial debut. Matt Damon is attached to star and the project was shopped around to potential studios last week. In Bureau, Damon will play David Norris, a charismatic congressman who seems destined for national political stardom. He meets a beautiful ballet dancer named Elise Sellas, only to find strange circumstances keeping their sparks from catching fire. Norris discovers forces are at work to keep them apart, and he peels the layers to find out why. The action takes place all over Manhattan. Nolfi, whose screenwriting credits include Timeline, Ocean’s Twelve and The Sentinel, will produce with Chris Moore (Good Will Hunting) and Michael Hackett (Paycheck). Production will begin in September. Damon will star in The Adjustment Bureau »

Variety says that studios trying to fill 2010 release slates have been given two very good options: an Adam McKay-directed action comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, or a drama starring Matt Damon that will have him working alongside his Bourne Ultimatum screenwriter George Nolfi. The Damon picture, The Adjustment Bureau, is a contemporary science fiction romance film that is loosely based on a Phillip K. Dick short story. Nolfi will be making his directing debut with Bureau, which will begin production by late summer. Nolfi, who most recently worked with Damon on The Bourne Ultimatum, also wrote 2004’s Oceans Twelve, in which Damon also starred. He also wrote The Sentinel [...] »

Sorry, that headline is a bit deceiving - no, Will Ferrell and Matt Damon are not going to be starring in the same movie, but Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will be! An interesting article hit Variety today that outlined two separate projects, one from Will Ferrell and one from Matt Damon, that are looking to get picked up be studios and greenlit for release in 2010. Ferrell's project is an action comedy called B Team to be directed by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers). Damon's project is a contemporary sci-fi love story called The Adjustment Bureau based on a Philip K. Dick short story. The Adjustment Bureau is being written by George Nolfi, of Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, and The Bourne Ultimatum. The project is loosely based on an unspecified Philip K. Dick short story (anyone have idea which one?) and will also be Nolfi's directing debut. B »

Chicago – “Mirrors” is a so-so horror movie helped a bit by its interesting director’s visual flourishes and a better-than-average ensemble but ultimately shattered by an incoherent screenplay and dialogue that is more likely to produce laughter than shivers.
Kiefer Sutherland has not yet successfully made the transition back from TV star to movie star with a series of roles in his “24” years that could be deemed questionable at best. “Phone Booth,” “Taking Lives,” “The Sentinel,” and, now, “Mirrors”. It’s not a stellar string of decisions.
In one of the featurettes on the Blu-Ray version of his latest misfire, “Reflections: The Making of Mirrors,” it is implied that Sutherland discussed doing the project with director Alexandre Aja before reading a script. He might want to change that part of his role-picking process.
Mirrors was released by Fox Home Video on January 13th, 2009.
