4 December 2009 5:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

By: Alison Nastasi

Utah isn't just for lovers--It's also for the Sundance Film Festival. Every year the fest rolls around I am jealous of those who get to attend the premiere of some of the most talked about independent films. This is the largest indie film festival in the U.S. and this year's lineup for the Park City at Midnight category looks like good stuff. The festival runs January 21 - 31 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Many popular horror films got their start at the festival, including Saw. I wonder if Weinberg was there... After the jump you can get up close and personal with the lineup for Sundance's Midnight movie series. Keep your eyes here for more info on the films as we get it. I also gave you my picks. Tell me yours?

So far I'm pretty psyched for Splice, directed by the »

The Butcher Brothers have a bit of a spotty track record with genre fans. From pleasing the majority of us with The Hamiltons to savaging some good memories of ours with their insipid April Fool's Day remake, you just have to take their films with a grain of salt.

Now that their latest film The Violent Kind starring Cory Knauf, Christina Prousalis, Taylor Cole, Tiffany Shepis, Bret Roberts, Nick Tagas, Joe Egender, Joseph McKelheer, and Samuel Child has made it to Sundance, some buzz is being drummed up around the Web.

Over at the official The Violent Kind Facebook page some artwork has popped up for the film, which you can dig on below.

Synopsis

One night at a secluded farmhouse deep in the Northern California woods, a small group of hardened young bikers and their girlfriends are tormented when one of the girls becomes savagely possessed and a gang »

The son of Moustapha Akkad, the late producer of the original Halloween film series, is now developing a new thriller that has elements from the slasher horror sub-genre. The new film is called The Violent Kind and the film is being made outside of the studio system with independent financing.

Malek Akkad, Andy Gould, Michael Ferris Gibson, Jeremy Platt and K'Dee Miller will all work as producers on the film. The directors/writers will be Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores who, under their pseudonym The Butcher Brothers, made 2006's The Hamiltons for Lionsgate. The Violent Kind centers on a group of bikers out to party but who become hunted by mysterious figures at a remote farmhouse.

Filming is scheduled to begin this month in northern California. Heroes co-star Taylor Cole won a role and two of the actors that worked with the Brothers before on The Hamiltons have also landed roles. »

You have got to love it when a plan comes together. Especially when said plan unites individuals with their own bounty of horror cred to work on one single project. A project that is of The Violent Kind.

THR reports that Andy Gould and Malek Akkad (pictured right), who produced Dimension's 2007 Halloween revival, and Jeffrey Allard, who exec produced New Line's two Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboots, are teaming up for The Violent Kind. They are joined by fellow producers Michael Ferris Gibson and Jeremy Platt and exec producer K'Dee Miller on the indie-financed feature, which revolves around a group of young bikers who find themselves tormented by mysterious and gory goings-on in a secluded farmhouse.

Violence. Secluded farmhouses. Gore. Yep, we're interested. Taking the directorial helm will be Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores, known to horror buffs as the Butcher Brothers (The Hamiltons), who will be directing from a script that they also wrote. »

A Second Trailer For Indie Thriller Godspeed

23 April 2009 5:35 PM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

We brought you the first trailer for indie thriller Godspeed - featuring Joseph Mckelheer and Cory Knauf from The Hamiltons - a little while back and while that trailer certainly showed some promise it was a fairly early effort cut together for international sales purposes and not the most polished in the world.  Well, the film will soon premiere at the Cinevegas Festival in June and in preparation for that the powers that be have just cut together a brand new trailer for the film.  This one still has a couple edges - the audio doesn’t seem to have been through post yet - but it is much improved on the whole, a very unsettling little piece of work.  Here’s the synopsis:

Charlie Shepard (Joseph Mckelheer, The Hamiltons) is a modern day faith healer, a man who claims that if you let go and believe, then his power »

The Hamiltons’ Joseph Mckelheer And Cory Knauf Return With Godspeed * Updated *

6 April 2009 11:06 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

[Updated with new and improved version of the trailer.]

Indie horror picture The Hamiltons was a solid sleeper hit on the festival circuit a couple years back and a film that we covered extensively in these pages, so we’re more than a little curious to get a look at what stars Joseph Mckelheer and Cory Knauf have been doing since.  The answer is Godspeed, a film the duo not only star in but also co-wrote and produced with Sundance alum Robert Saitzyk (After The Flood) in the director’s chair.  Here’s the synopsis:

Charlie Shepard (Joseph Mckelheer, The Hamiltons) is a modern day faith healer, a man who claims that if you let go and believe, then his power to heal is very real indeed. Living hand-to-mouth with his young son and wife Rebecca (Jessie Ward, Rest Stop: Don’T Look Back), Charlie ekes out a meager living from his “healing” sessions in a small Alaskan town. »
