Aristocrats director hosting Showtime comedy show for comics

9 October 2009 5:23 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Paul Provenza is what comics would call a "comic's comic," so he's a perfect pick for Showtime's new comedian chat show.

The comedian and film director will host a new Showtime show next year called Behind the Green Room Door. It's a talk show featuring a rotating panel of comics having the kinds of hardcore conversations that can only be heard in dressing rooms and empty comedy club bars.

And if you've never been to a comedy club, then you can get an idea of the conversation when you realize Provenza directed the acclaimed comedy documentary The Aristocrats. And if you've never heard of The Aristocrats and you're sensitive to foul language, you might want to see if your DVR comes with ear plugs and a soul scraper.

'Aristocrats' director takes Showtime into 'The Green Room'

7 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Paul Provenza, who showcased a group of famous comics deconstructing a single joke in "The Aristocrats," will give viewers addition insight into the stand-up life in Showtime's "Behind the Green Room Door." Showtime has ordered six episodes of the half-hour docu-comedy series to premiere in 2010. We presume Showtime and Provenza are intentionally paying homage to the legendary adult film "Behind the Green Door," starring Marilyn Chambers. Most viewers probably won't be amused. The behind-the-scenes series features a handful of comedy veterans and neophytes talking candidly about their craft. "Behind the Green Room Door" shows what happens when comics talk …

By Josef Adalian

Paul Provenza, director of the hit documentary "The Aristocrats," is laughing it up for Showtime with a new series called "Behind the Green Room Door."

Despite the vaguely porntastic title, the show will actually feature comics such as Eddie Izzard, Jonathan Winters, Larry Miller, Dana Gould, Roseanne Barr and Drew Carey riffing with one another in front of a small studio audience. Provenza will host; the series bows next year.

Dollywood, Travel Tips And Peter Facinelli On Parenting In Today's Twitter-Wood

14 July 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Diablo Cody made good on her promise to go to Dollywood this week, and the Twitter-Wood feed has the tweet to prove it. So if you've ever contemplated a trip to the only country music celebrity-themed park that I'm aware of in the U.S., check out her list of accomplishments.

Actor Ethan Suplee also tweeted in with some travel tips today, explaining how he tried to defend his nail-clippers from confiscation at the airport. To find out what he had to say, as well as what injury "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli sustained from his child and Rainn Wilson discovered at the local pool today, click on down to the Twitter-Wood report for July 14, 2009.

@diablocody Just left Dollywood this morning after a whirlwind 2-day Dollymoon. Rode Mystery Mine 10 times, ate my weight in taffy.

Tweets From The ‘Iron Man 2′ Set And Defending Hayden Panettiere In Today’s Twitter-Wood

13 July 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

One week after the Fourth of July holiday, Hollywood is back at work and tweeting about it. Jon Favreau gave a status update from the “Iron Man 2” set, where he’s getting ready to shoot scenes with Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow now that Mickey Rourke is finished.

“Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” which is filming up in Toronto this summer, got some tweet defense today from creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, who was irked by online frustrations that the cast won’t be attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The comic book writer and artist shared the simple scheduling conflict that’s keeping them Canada. You’ll find both of these posts, as well as Jeremy Piven’s heartfelt shout-out to Hayden Panettiere and Pen Jillette’s own defense of jury duty. It’s all below in the Twitter-Wood report for July 13, 2009.

Taylor-made Career

7 July 2009 1:14 AM, PDT | NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news »

He's that guy.

Been in a million movies and sitcoms (the '80s were a heyday), played the villain in "The Last Boy Scout," can now be seen on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Reno 911!" -- and not a day goes by when someone doesn't recognize him. Yes, he was the Pizza Guy from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."

"I'm a shape-shifter," says 51-year-old Taylor Negron, who is also a kind of senior patron saint of the underground comedic storytelling scene. His two-man show, directed by David Schweizer, "The Unbearable Lightness …

Rose McGowan’s New Dog And ‘Twilight’ Actor Peter Facinelli In A Bikini In Today’s Twitter-Wood

30 June 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled 5-0 today that Al Franken won last year’s Senate election, and it didn’t take long for responses to start popping up in the Twitter-Wood feed, including reactions from Larry King and Graham Linehan. Magician and quick-witted thinker Penn Jillette also brought politics into his tweets, pointing out the relevance of his film “The Aristocrats” in a recent Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision.

The conversations weren’t all political though. Rose McGowan showed off a shot a of the new dog she adopted and Demi Moore posted her own puppy shot of Ashton Kutcher rolling around on the set of his new movie “Five Killers.” Meanwhile, “Twilight” actor Peter Facinelli was just innocently trying on a bikini and Russell Brand kept to what he does best, lacing an apology to his neglected Twitter followers with dog-and-leg-humping imagery. You’ll find all of this …

Mere hours after Michael Jackson’s death in Los Angeles, nearly everyone in the Twitter-Wood feed has already logged on to tweet their reactions to the loss of the King of Pop. While details surrounding this evening’s events are still coming to light, I wanted to assemble a special report that demonstrates how big of a role his contributions from “Thriller” to “Captain Eo” have played in the popular culture we all share.

Below are the sincere thoughts and responses to today’s news as tweeted by “Twilight” cast members, directors, and other Hollywood luminaries, including Mandy Moore, John Cusack, Miley Cyrus and many, many others.

Twitter-Wood: Kevin Smith’s Hockey Geekout, Odd Birds, And ‘The Hangover’ Reviewed

10 June 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It’s true that much of the time directors and movie stars don’t have anything better to do than you or me. However, when your springtime BBQ is a break from putting “Toy Story 3” together and your airline shenanigans come on the heels of the Korean premiere of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” the tweets get much meatier.

Today, Kevin Smith comes into contact with the stuff of hockey legend, Tyrese Gibson and Charlyne Yi post some photos, and Rainn Wilson just acts like himself. It’s just another day in the Twitter-Wood feed. But first, an extra rare tweet from writer Bret Easton Ellis clarifying in no uncertain terms what he thought of last weekend’s surprise box office success “The Hangover.”

Parrot asks, "What'd the frozen turkey want?"

17 April 2009 6:43 PM, PDT | blogs.suntimes.com/ebert | See recent Roger Ebert's Blog news »

A joke should have the perfection of a haiku. Not one extra word. No wrong words. It should seem to have been discovered in its absolute form rather than created. The weight of the meaning should be at the end. The earlier words should prepare for the shift of the meaning. The ending must have absolute finality. It should present a world view only revealed at the last moment. Like knife-throwing, joke-telling should never be practiced except by experts.

For many laymen, a joke is a heavenly gift allowing them to monopolize your attention although they lack all ability as an entertainer. You can tell this because they start off grinning and grin the whole way through. They're so pleased with themselves. Their grins are telling you they're funny and their joke is funny. The expert knows not to betray the slightest emotion. The expert is reciting a fact. There …

‘Star-ving’ Artist David Faustino Talks Up Premiere on Crackle

16 January 2009 12:34 PM, PST | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

David Faustino has arrived on the web. Crackle's new comedy web series Star-ving premieres today, kicking off a riotous look inside the life of the former Married...with Children star's groveling reality. Ok, so it's not quite reality. Faustino plays himself of course, only he's broke, out of work and begging his rich Hollywood pals for money. His longtime friend Corin Nemec (former star of Parker Lewis Can't Lose) is the screwball sidekick looking to ride Faustino's coattails back to glory. Oh, and he runs a porn shop. There's a whole roster of comedic gold on the guest star lineup: Ed Asner (The Closer, The Mary Tyler Moore Show); Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy); Christina Applegate (Samantha Who); Seth Green (Robot Chicken); Ed O’Neill (Married…with Children, John from Cincinnati); rap star Coolio; Gilbert Gottfried (The Aristocrats); former Growing Pains stars Alan Thicke, Tracey Gold and Jeremy Miller; the …
