- The old mining equipment found in the caves and arrows scrawled on the walls appears to hint at a direct tie in with similar scenes in _Journey to the Center of the Earth_.

- brief shower scene in the cabin pays homage to Hitchcock
"Sesame Street" (1969)
- Imitation of the Count, counting bats: "One bat. Two bats. Fifty bats....ha ha ha!"

- After a sequence of white water rafting, the heroes are driving through the backwoods with banjo music on the radio.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
- The scene in the end where Sarah dreams that she is escaping and is completely crazy is an homage to the ending in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There is even a large logging truck that drives by, just like the semitruck in the Chainsaw Massacre.

- When the main character comes out of the pond covered in blood with wide eyes; a hand comes out of the ground at the end
Apocalypse Now (1979)

- Character stands under a stream of water and looks up and water spatters on hat.
Predator (1987)
