Michael Haneke is celebrated as one of the most confrontational currently active film makers in Europe. His films Hidden, The Piano Teacher and Funny Games all actively try and engage their audiences with Haneke’s polemic ideologies, his films rather violently placing the director’s world view on the screen. Funny Games even had the gall to break the fourth wall to hammer home its points, literally pointing a finger at the audience. The White Ribbon, however, is a different kettle of fish. Rather than directly telling the audience what to think, Haneke allows for several ambiguities to arise and, as such, the film is a more rewarding experience. This does not mean that Haneke has abandoned all his trademark styles though. The White Ribbon, his Palme D’Or and European Film Award winning picture, is as sinister, as misanthropic and as ideologically driven as anything he has committed to celluloid thus far. »

A couple of weeks ago it was announced that Joshua Jackson would be starring in Matthew Gratzner's big screen adaptation of UFO, originally a 70's British sci-fi television series. Gratzner revealed to Forbidden Planet that Ali Larter is being considered for the lead female role. “For the character of Virginia Lake we've talked to Ali Larter, who's very interested." Gratzner told them. "I've actually met with her, and I think she would be a great addition to the picture. Lake is very strong and obviously also very feminine, and Ali Larter definitely encompasses that.” Larter recently appeared in Resident Evil: Extinction and Obsessed last year. UFO will also apparently be a trilogy. "There are three movies planned. The first script is completed, and number two and number three are treatments - and numbers two and three are even more spectacular," he added. Apparently Gratzner's getting a $130 million budget for »

This series of mutant monsters and zombie rampages is now on its fourth installment. Resident Evil: Afterlife, orignally slated for August 2010, has now been pushed back to January 2011.
ShockTillYouDrop report the reason behind the move is all the complictated 3-D effects work. That’s right, Resident Evil 4 is going to be presented in glorious digital 3-D! Exactly the logical step in this series of b-movie tosh based on Capcom’s famous title.
Way back when, George A. Romero was hired-then-fired from Resident Evil, before Paul W. Anderson came on board and created a franchise that didn’t find its inherent b-movie soul until the Russell Mulcahy-helmed Resident Evil: Extinction. Bad news is: Anderson is back!
With its post-apocalyptic craziness, the films have only ever used the game series as a springboard for its own agenda. They obviously make enough money for them to keep making them. And let’s face it, »

A very short post from Milla Jovovich on her Twitter managed to give a major spoiler to the next installment of the "Resident Evil" series. From the filming set of "Resident Evil: Afterlife" on Monday, November 9, the depicter of Alice in the movie franchise wrote, "Valentine May b back..."
Jovovich made a reference to another hero character Jill Valentine who last appeared in the second movie "Resident Evil: Apocalypse". The character was portrayed by Sienna Guillory who has not confirmed her return in the role. Guillory reportedly was slated to be back for "Resident Evil: Extinction" but due to other work commitments, she passed on the role and the character did not appear in the third movie.
Jill is a demoted member of Umbrella Corp's elite Special Tactics and Rescue Services (S.T.A.R.S.) who joined Terri, Carlos, L.J. and Nicholai in battling the zombies and taking »

Paul W.S. Anderson promised fans a few familiar faces would definitely be returning for Resident Evil: Afterlife . Ali Larter has returned as Claire Redfield, then there is Spencer Locke's K-Mart. From the video game series? Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) and Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts). Well, how about Jill Valentine? That's right. Star Milla Jovovich dropped a Tweeter via her Twitter account earlier today that said: "Valentine May be back." We haven't seen that character on the screen since Sienna Guillory played her in Resident Evil: Apocalypse . Insiders told me during Resident Evil: Extinction 's production that Guillory didn't return over contract disputes. Is the actress back or have they re-cast Valentine? We'll see. Jovovich also had »

Post-apocalyptic fashion is often surprisingly smart in the stylish world of cinema. There’s no need to make do in battered rags or cardboard on your feet, as those meticulous movie folk still manage to flaunt cool clobber regardless of the sad state of the world. And leading the charge is Nurse Betty (played by R’n’B singing star Ashanti), one of the survivors of the nasty T-virus in Resident Evil: Extinction. In this third instalment of the video game film franchise, the plucky medic zooms into focus on our style-o-meter (fictional, but nonetheless a great idea, don’t you think?) with her Casio G-Shock DW6600 watch. And so we continue the Halloween theme that has pervaded our recent fashion fixes, by naming it this week’s entry. »

It takes skill to make a franchise of movies that remains consistently good from the original movie to each subsequent movie. The Resident Evil franchise is one that I feel has managed to do this. However, this may be due to a personal bias that Resident Evil’s character ‘Alice’ is one of the best female characters in any film (no damsel in distress here!).
That being said, those who saw the third of the Resident Evil movies, Resident Evil: Extinction, and felt that it ended with the blatant a very blatant suggestion of a sequel to follow can now look forward to just that.
The fourth in the series, Resident Evil: Afterlife is slated to hit theaters in August of 2010, and brings back Paul W.S. Anderson (director of the first film in the franchise) to write, direct, and produce the film. Many of the actors from the previous films »
