Twilight Watch: A Conversation With Kellan Lutz

30 October 2009 9:25 AM, PDT | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

It’s getting closer and closer to the release of Twilight: New Moon, and Vf.com is eager to keep you abreast of all things vampire for the next few weeks. After interviewing Peter Facinelli (who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen), I recently spoke to another member of the Cullen coven, Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), while he was on the set of the next film in the saga, Eclipse, in Vancouver. As he was preparing to shoot a climatic Cullen-family-get-together, he discussed the cast’s love of reading, what’ll make it on the blooper reel, and his part in the upcoming remake of horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. You’re currently on a break. What do you usually love to do on your downtime? I love to read. I have a Kindle, and it’s nice to be able to download books that people refer. Tiff Day One: Antichrist and Jennifer's Body

Lev Lewis reporting from the Toronto International Film Festival

My first day at the festival yielded two opposing ends of the horror spectrum. On one end: Antichrist, the latest piece of controversy from Danish provocateur Lars von Trier; on the other: Jennifer's Body, the horror-comedy written by Diablo Cody. It's not difficult to say which one I prefer although words such as "prefer" or "enjoy" are not words that one should ever use to describe Antichrist.

Antichrist is everything you have heard and then some. I came into my screening moderately prepared for what von Trier had in store for me. I'd seen his previous work, read numerous articles detailing the controversy surrounding the film, thought I knew what I was in for. But, without trying to sound hyperbolic, nothing can prepare you for this. Perhaps, there will be people out there who will find themselves unaffected by the film, »

Kevin Smith's Tweet-a-Thon: The Top 10

On Tuesday morning (September 8), after a 24-hour marathon stunt of constant updates to his Twitter account, Kevin Smith's Labor Day experiment in the limits of shameless self-promotion via social networking drew to a close. By his own count, the "Clerks" director posted about 700 updates starting on Monday, hitting topics both enlightening and delightfully absurd. Answering fan questions and offering up his own nuggets of raunchy wisdom, Smith tweeted about favorite movies, personal cinematic regrets, relationships, dieting, hockey, Hollywood gossip, the "Twilight" franchise and, of course, his upcoming book, "Shootin' the Sh-- With Kevin Smith."

Unlike Smith, though, most of us had neither the time nor the inclination to stay glued to Twitter for an entire day to catch every single one of his updates — curses, R-rated jokes, »

Aziz Ansari Helps Jay-z And Kanye West Stick It To Mixtape DJs

2 September 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

You know it's happened to you: You download a new Eminem freestyle or a Lil Wayne remix, but then when you click "Play" all you get is a terrible mixtape DJ shouting over the track about how dope it actually is. Comedian and actor Aziz Ansari (star of "Funny People" and TV's "Parks and Recreation") is fed up with them too, which is why he took the Jay-z and Kanye West track "Hate" and talked all over it as a way to send-up those guys who are always shouting "Exclusive!" West liked it so much that he posted the song to his own blog.

"New Jay-z track, y'all. I'm about to yell all over the s---," Ansari says at the beginning of the song. "Totally ruin it." As the song continues, Jigga and West's verses are kept low in the mix so that Ansari can talk about "Mad Men," how he hates doing laundry, »

Trailer - Timberlake, Bridges Hit 'The Open Road'

4 August 2009 10:59 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

There are two things about the trailer for The Open Road that stood out to me. The first is the tagline, which considering what appears to be a pretty standard story and a fairly inexpensive trailer, is surprisingly clever. Not saying it's great, just clever. I won't give that away, though. The other thing that stands out, as he often does, is Jeff Bridges.

Bridges has never taken the easiest path. He could have been a much bigger star in his 80s and 90s heyday, but he preferred more substantial, original roles like Starman, Fearless, and The Fisher King. He has four Oscar nominations but it should really be six or seven. He stands out to me here for another reason, though: what can a really good leading man do when the material probably isn't terribly unique? Does he wilt or does he find that there's a lot more room to explore the character? »

Question: What's going on with Missy Peregrym? The girl is smokin' hot!

— Cassandra, Bay Area, CA

Missy Peregrym

Answer: I think you are probably speaking for a large portion of the lesbian masses when you profess your admiration for Ms. Peregrym.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that an entire generation of women got a glimpse of Peregrym's abs in the undeniably awesome film Stick It (2006) and immediately joined gyms in order to 1) sculpt their very own Peregrym-style six-pack or 2) pick up a girl with a Peregrym-style six-pack.

In 2007, Peregrym had a brief stint on Heroes as a shape-shifter, then took the role »
