Mark Is Much More Than Just Some Other Guy

Mark Wahlberg practiced a few stunts on the set of The Other Guys in NYC earlier this week. This film has given him a chance to show off his comedic skills with funny costars like Will Ferrell, but Mark will be showcasing his action abilities when he eventually starts work on The Brazilian Job with Charlize Theron. We caught up with her Thursday at the Onexone event in Sf, and while she didn't talk about working with Mark, we did chat about her charity work.

Sutherland & Foster Join Statham In ‘Mechanic’ Remake

About six months ago, we reported on Jason Statham being cast in the remake of the 1972 action crime-thriller, The Mechanic, about a hitman who takes on an apprentice. At the time there was word that the remake would be a remake in name only, and the story would be changed to a modern-day spy thriller. However, with the latest casting news, it appears the story will be pretty similar if not the same as the original.
Promising news, I say.
Variety is reporting that Donald Sutherland and Ben Foster (Pandorum, X-Men: The Last Stand) are set to co-star with Statham in The Mechanic remake, which is set to be directed by Simon West (Con Air - one of my favorites, Fyi ) from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek. Foster is set to play Statham’s hitman apprentice, Steve McKenna (the original role was played by Jan-Michael Vincent), and Sutherland will play

The Latest News On The Italian Job 2

»
Since The Italian Job snuck onto screens in 2003 and got away with over 170$ million in box office gold, buzz has been building about the proposed sequel, The Brazilian Job. The hope, stoked by hints from producer Donald De Line (currently working on Green Lantern),was for a 2011 release with all the major players returning. That’s a lot of schedules to coordinate, seeing as how we’re talking about Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Ed Norton, Donald Sutherland, Jason Statham, Seth Green and Mos Def, all recognized stars with any number of projects to choose from.
So what’s the news? Since our last update the new news is…
Wait for it…
Nothing.
That’s right. Apparently Paramount had a script and even a budget, but management changes put development on hold. Now director F. Gary Gray, whose current feature Law Abiding Citizen hits theaters on October 16th, says that The Brazilian Job

Exclusive: Director F. Gary Grey Update on the The Italian Job Sequel

Since director F. Gary Gray’s “The Italian Job” first came out, rumors have been circulating that Paramount was developing a sequel. In fact, when I was on the set of “Observe and Report”, producer Donald De Line told us, “we developed a script which was “The Brazilian Job” and they were all excited about the script at Paramount, and we actually budgeted it and everything and we were kind of ready to go, and then a lot of things were happening with various management changes and it got tabled”. Of course with a cast featuring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Donald Sutherland, Jason Statham and Edward Norton, it’s no surprise that people would like to see another adventure.
Anyway, since that set visit, nothing has been reported on the movie and many have wondered if a sequel would ever happen. So when I got on the phone today to talk with director F.

Will Smith and Charlize Theron Confirmed for Hancock 2

»
In the summer of 2008 Will Smith showed off his ability to go days without shaving, act like a jerk and stop trains with his head by starring as the title character in the superhero movie Hancock. The movie had a good box office run, banking over $600 million worldwide; so it’s no wonder that talks of a sequel weren’t too far behind.
While Hancock 2 has been in the pipeline for a minute, what was unconfirmed was whether director Peter Berg would be able to lure Will Smith and co-star Charlize Theron back for the sequel. Theron had talked late last year about her interest in continuing her role as the female counterpart to Smith’s godly hero, but until now, the only confirmed facts were Berg returning as the director and the addition of Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara as the script writers.

Peter Berg Talks Hancock Sequel
19 August 2009 11:55 AM, PDT

»
We first heard rumblings last year of a sequel to the Will Smith non-comic book superhero film, Hancock. At first it was just word that a sequel was in the works (presumably in the very early idea stages), with no real details on if the film’s star(s) or the director, Peter Berg, would be coming back to do another.
However, fast-forward almost a year and we have some more info from Berg himself, courtesy of SciFiWire, about a possible Hancock 2. It’s not info on him or Will Smith officially signing on for a sequel (or anything of that sort), rather what Berg has in mind in terms of a possible plot for a sequel.
[Warning: the following contains Spoilers about the first Hancock and could be considered spoilerific with regards to the sequel].
Towards the end of the first Hancock, it was revealed that Smith’s superhero character is actually an immortal god, who only becomes vulnerable when his companion god (Charlize Theron’s character) is in his presence.

Timothy Olyphant Open to Hitman 2

A couple of months ago, Screen Rant talked about 20th Century Fox hiring Kyle Ward to write the script for Hitman 2 - the sequel to their 2007 action film Hitman. Now Coming Soon had a chance to sit down with Agent 47 himself, Timothy Olyphant, during a junket for his upcoming movie A Perfect Getaway. When asked if he was signed on to do future Hitman movies, Olyphant responded:
“It’s not on my schedule. If they want me to do another one, I supposed they could have me, yes. What I can tell you about ‘Hitman’ is that I’m thrilled that it was as successful as it was and it was a really nice opportunity and I appreciate that opportunity.”
I would hope that 20th Century can get Olyphant on contract to play Agent 47 again. He is by no means irreplaceable but I like to see some continuity in term of actors playing characters.

Hemsworth, Zahn & Jovovich Want A Perfect Getaway

I always look forward to the end of the summer movie season. You can be sure to find at least one or two decent movies to watch in August that will entertain without suffering from all the hype leading up to their release. GI Joe, while I’m really excited to watch it, opens in August and if Screen Rant chatter is any indication, will most likely suffer from the hype and be judged very harshly.
If you want to find a movie worth watching you sometimes have to go off the beaten path; in this case, Hawaii. I think David Twohy’s A Perfect Getaway, which he wrote and directed, may be the sleeper hit of the summer and, if the film is as entertaining as the trailer, should be a great way to end the big movie season as well.
A Perfect Getaway appears to have everything I
