Charming and informative, if a little 'quirky'

It's not often you see a documentary series where the content shines through more strongly than the producer's attempts at promoting style and the personal traits of the presenters. Nicholas Crane is at one with his subject and the environments he is exploring. Even in the places one knows, he brings out new facts and perspectives.

The only things that limited my rating are the occasional continuity jumps/hiccoughs and the annoying short inserts where the picture is (deliberately) out of focus and shaky. Perhaps that is a sometimes a consequence of the cameraman stumbling over rough ground while walking backwards, but not always!

Otherwise, immensely enjoyable.
