  • Bill Cosby : Five years ago, Will Lee, The actor who played Mr. Hooper died. He was not replaced by another actor. The children were not told Mr. Hooper moved away, or anything. On Sesame Street, Mr. Hooper died.

    Maria : Big Bird, Don't you remember we told you? Mr. Hooper died. He's dead.

    Big Bird : Oh yeah! I remember! Well, I'll wait until he comes back.

    Susan : Big Bird, when people die, they don't come back.

    Big Bird : [Voice breaksdown]  Never?

    Luis : Well, Big Bird, they're dead, they can't come back.

    Big Bird : Well, it won't be the same.

    Bob : You're right, Big Bird. It will never be the same without him.

    [Voice breaksdown] 

    Bob : But do you know something? We can all be very happy that we had our chance to be with him, and to know him, and to love him a lot when he was here.

    Big Bird : [to his drawing of Mr. Hooper]  You know? I'm gonna miss you, Mr. Looper.

    Maria : [as she smiles sadly]  That's Hooper, Big Bird, Hooper!

    Big Bird : You're right!

    [Everyone gives Big Bird a hug] 

    Bill Cosby : And so, Big Bird learned about death, birth, love, marriage, adoption, and life keeps on changing as Sesame Street keeps changing.

    Cookie Monster : You got cookie?
