This week:

Avatar beats Holmes to number one; Kevin Bacon is Super; Jackson and Kilmer fire a Gun and Paramount saddle up for The Further Adventures of Doc Holiday.

Box Office

James Cameron is the “King of the World”. The Terminator has yet another Titanic hit on his hands with Avatar. The fantasy adventure epic has banked another $76 million for a magic $217 million total.

Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes had to settle for the runner-up position with a decent $65 million debut. It looks like Downey Jr. now has two action franchises to play with!

The Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel brought in another $50 million for a $84 million total. It looks like a third installment will be on the way.

Meryl Streep shows that she can still open a movie with It’s Complicated. The comedy had a $23 million opening. Never underestimate the power of Streep.

'Transformers' Writer To Script 'The Forgotten' Adaptation?

23 December 2009 6:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Earlier this week, we brought you the news that producers Don Murphy ("We3") and John Wells had renewed their option on Jareth Grealish and Evan Young’s “The Forgotten” comic book. Grealish hinted that a "well-established screenwriter" was attached to the project, and it hasn't taken long for the first rumor to surface regarding who that writer could be.

According to SlashFilm, "Transformers" writer John Rogers will pen the screenplay for the film, which adapts the 2002 four-issue miniseries about a man with the ability to make those around him forget that he ever existed as he attempts to unravel a murder mystery.

If the rumor proves true, Rogers will add "The Forgotten" to a resume already stacked with comics projects and comics-related work. He previously scripted and produced an early adaptation of Warren Ellis' "Global Frequency" series, and co-created the new version of DC's Blue Beetle character with veteran »

Writer Attached to Forgotten Adaptation

22 December 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

An adaptation of the graphic novel "the forgotten" has found it's writer. John Rogers - responsible for the story behind Transformers (he apparently penned the first draft and takes "story" credit) - has been attached to the project by John Wells and Don Murphy's Angry Films. They're the ones who first optioned the property; that option has recently been renewed. Described as mixing the supernatural and film noir, Evan Young and Jareth Grealish's comic book - originally published in 2002 - is set against the backdrop of Philadelphia where an investigator is searching for an exotic dancer's killer. This investigator has the ability to make people forget about him. Handy power. No word on what kind of time line Rogers is working under, but we'll earmark »

Paris Hilton reportedly said of UK Prime Minister when quoting his name: 'It's Gordon – Gordon Ramsay?' Megan Fox, the Transformers bombshell, said: 'I'm clearly not ugly,' while The Hills star Spencer Pratt said of himself and his wife, Heidi Montag: 'We're the most famous people in the world.' Kate Winslet upon receiving a Golden Globe was flummoxed – but just for a second. The Decade’s Film: 2005-2009

21 December 2009 7:33 AM, PST | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

It had been a successful decade for the comic book movie, with that trend continuing into the latter half of the decade. Just as looked like the public demand for irradiated heroes looked to be diminishing, with lacklustre showings from the likes of Spider-Man 3 and Fantastic Four, out came Iron Man. Coupled with a brilliant script and an excellent performance from Robert Downey Jr as the titular zillionaire industrialist/playboy/freedom fighter/all-round genius, the end result was something truly special. Downey’s career was also revitalised, earning him a role in Tropic Thunder (which would earn him an Oscar nomination). Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk took a similar approach, this time giving Edward Norton of Fight Club fame a shot at getting under the skin of the green goliath.  They set a tough act to follow, but followed they were by one Christopher Nolan. Films Of The Decade – Alex’s List

18 December 2009 4:15 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

10 years is bloody ages in film terms. To narrow it down to my ten favourite films of the decade was no easy task. Even now I look at my list and can’t help but think…where the hell is Gladiator? Why didn’t I include any Lord Of The Rings films? What about The Dark Knight? Damn, what about The Lives Of Others, Pan’s Labyrinth, Finding Nemo, Downfall, No Country For Old Men? All of those films are incredible candidates and on another day they might have made it. The truth is no self-respecting film buff will ever be able to narrow down 10 films to fit a list and not have it change every so often.

One day my opinion of the best film of all time will be Seven Samurai the next day it will be Apocalypse Now and the day after that it might be Night Of The Hunter. »

Paramount to make a film about Doc Holliday

18 December 2009 3:52 PM, PST | GordonandtheWhale | See recent GordonandtheWhale news »

There was a time in Hollywood where Westerns were a dime a dirty dozen, literally to the point that they were factory produced. Nowadays, it seems if one manages to mosey out of town, it is because it’s generally worth making. 3:10 To Yuma, The Proposition, and of course the surge of Westerns in the early 90s, the most notable being Tombstone. Well, partner, it would appear that Paramount is looking to wrangle a little of that magic with a planned Doc Holliday film. The studio has purchased a spec entitled The Further Adventures Of Doc Holliday from newcomer Chad St. John with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) saddling up to come along for the ride. The film is said to be a Pirates Of The Caribbean-esque action adventure story, with a basis in history. I would hope so.

El Guapo Presents The Top Ten Worst Movies Of 2009!

Top Ten Worst Movies of 2009 **Disclaimer** This list is for entertainment purposes only. No studio is safe. No actor is safe. No movie is safe! You have been warned. What's more fun to read, the best movies of the year, or the crappiest movies of the year? I know as a writer, I Love listing the worst movies of the year. And 2009 had some pretty big stinkers. From failed comedies, (what a shock that a Kate Hudson movie would make the list two years in a row) to failed action flicks to unwatchable "arthouse", 2009 served up a big ol plate of dog crap. So sit back, relax and see if you agree with any of my choices. Yes, I'm well aware that there are 500 million movies out there that went straight to DVD. I'm only listing theatrical releases. I'm sure there are plenty of films I've missed or just didn't see. »

Doc Holliday Film

The best thing about Tombstone for a lot of movie fans was Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday. That being said, Paramount has bought the spec script to The Further Adventures Of Doc Holliday penned by Chad St. John. It's probably safe to say that there's a slim chance that Kilmer will reprise his role for the film. Reason being, well, I don't really need to point it out. The adventures of the gambling dentist will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers). Here's where it »

Paramount Wants More ‘Doc Holliday’

18 December 2009 7:13 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

I’m usually not much for one actor having ownership over a role that’s based on real life figures or one that has had a long lifespan in multiple mediums. As great as Heath Ledger’s Joker is, Jack Nicholson’s interpretation is just as valid, as is Cesar Romero’s.

But here’s the thing: nobody will ever play gunslinger Doc Holliday better than Val Kilmer did in Tombstone. It’s a fact of life, inescapable.

But Paramount doesn’t think so, having just purchased a spec script entitled The Further Adventures of Doc Holliday by Chad St. John. Paramount is apparently looking for another Transformers-esque tentpole film to be spearheaded by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

It’s likely that Adventures won’t be grounded in reality, as they’re aiming for something more like Pirates of the Caribbean than Tombstone. Variety calls it a “history-based action adventure tale. »

Paramount Picks Up a Doc Holliday Action Adventure Script

18 December 2009 4:13 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Not a fan of westerns? Paramount wants to change your mind. The studio has acquired (via Variety) Chad St. John's spec script The Further Adventures of Doc Holliday in hopes of turning it into a western style tentpole action adventure movie. As in, a big budget, western "event" movie. Another one of Chad St. John's scripts ended up on this year's Black List in the #10 spot. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, of Transformers and G.I. Joe, is producing the project, which is described as a history-based adventure tale in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean. Can you imagine seeing epic old western gunfights on an epic scale? Oh hell yes! Doc Holliday was a famously tuberculosis-ridden gunfighter best known for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and for his involvement in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona in 1881. In an 1896 article, Wyatt Earp had this to »
