Mike Mitchell's "Shrek Forever After" is apparently the last film in the popular animated series, and it is heading to theaters in 3D May 21, 2010. A first teaser trailer for your viewing pleasure is now online.
This is a short teaser, but it gives us a good first look at the story and characters of the fourth film. I loved the first and second, but "Shrek The Third" really disappointed me. Let's hope for a better finale...
This time, Shrek is feeling over-domesticated in the fourth installment. He has lost his roar. It used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches. …

Paramount Pictures has just debuted a trailer for "Shrek Forever After". Making its way out via Apple, the video gives the first preview to Shrek who is stuck in a "Far Far Away" world, where everyone he knows is different from the real life.
Just when he thought he and Fiona are going to live happily forever after they got hitched, Shrek gets new trouble as he "has lost his roar". Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, the grown-reluctant ogre agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre," Shrek is tricked into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin.
The pact goes awry and Shrek must confront what life would be like in Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king, and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all …

I would have thought that after the Lifeless Shrek the Third the only suitable fourth movie would involve Shrek and Donkey discovering an enormous cow in the forests of Far, Far Away and then spend the next 80 minutes beating it and watching the coins fall out, laughing maniacally to themselves. In 3D.
Not so. Amidst rumour of a Puss In Boots spin off the fellows at Dreamworks have unleashed the trailer for the fourth film entitled Shrek Forever After and have wrapped it up in a tidy looking new poster. Both can be seen below.
My feelings are simple. I’d happily sit through another Shrek film, I enjoyed the first, thought the second was self parodic but found the third to be a CG wasteland, barren of ideas, mocking of its own characters, and substituting celeb cameos for jokes. If the fourth film is any good I’ll be a very happy man. …

In spite of the fact that it is being written by the same guy who did Shrek The Third, directed by the guy who did The Pink Panther, and marketed by a lackluster trailer, I have high hopes for Date Night. Why, you ask? Because Steve Carell and Tina Fey provide an hour of actual comedy every week, and that is something hard to come by on television these days. The film isn't out until April, but it now appears the Warner Bros. is willing to invest in its potential success. According to Pajiba, the company is re-teaming the NBC stars for Mail Order Groom, where Fey will play a lonely and desperate American woman (not exactly a stretch for her) who decides to order an Eastern European soldier (Carell) to be her husband. The article insinuates that there is a completed script for the film, which would start filming …

Opens: January 1st 2010
Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley
Director: Christian Alvart
Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.
Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Lead star Renee Zellweger also scored personal criticism to a level rarely seen in film reviews outside of comments about Nicole Kidman's 'more alien than the …

Animation films, whether it’s the new school CGI or old school hand drawn, have always been popular with kids of all ages and in recent years, have become fun for adults to watch as well; so, it’s no surprise to read a story over at Variety announcing a new CGI feature film involving Jack Black. Writer Jason Micallef pitched an idea to Illumination Entertainment which is an extension of Universal headed by Chris Meledandri.
Micallef’s pitch in set in the world of Cryptozoology, which is the study and search for unknown, yet often talked about, animals or beings. My guess is it will include “monsters” like the Yeti, Sasquatch, Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster and maybe even mermaids or dragons. Black, who at one time was thought to be voicing a character, will now only be producing with business partner Ben Cooley via their production company Electric Dynamite. …

Dreamworks Animation announced today that Leonardo DiCaprio has joined his first animated feature film, their upcoming release The Guardians. This is not to be confused with the Zack Snyder directed Warner Bros. release The Guardians of Ga'Hoole, as DiCaprio will be voicing Jack Frost. And Jack Frost is clearly not an owl. Directed by Peter Ramsey (a story artist who has worked on Shrek the Third, Fight Club and other fine films), The Guardians tells the story of a group of holiday heroes -- Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and Jack Frost -- who band together to take on an evil spirit called Pitch, who dares to take over the world by inspiring fear into the hearts of its children. The film will show that these "Guardians" are more than just holiday icons, all possessing special powers that will come in handy against this new form of evil. It's …

One of Stephen King's novellas will be transformed into a television series by SyFy. The cable channel has ordered 13 episodes to be made based on King's "The Colorado Kid", Mark Stern, Executive Vice President, Original Content for SyFy announced on Monday, November 30. The series will be titled "Haven" and its production will be in motion early 2010.
"Haven", according to the press release, is "full of complex, yet identifiable, characters and compelling supernatural situations." The pilot is written by Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn aka "Shrek the Third" scribes. "Sam and Jim wrote a great pilot, and we can't wait to see Scott [Shepherd], Lloyd [Segan], and Shawn [Piller] join them in bringing this town to life as a series," Stern said in making the announcement.
Deep in the heart of Maine, Haven is a town where people with supernatural abilities have migrated for generations because it mutes their powers, allowing them to lead normal lives. …

SyFy will be launching a 13 episode series titled "Haven", based on the Stephen King novella "The Colorado Kid". The novella was a tribute to the 'hard-boiled' genre of noir mystery, complete with King staples including a mysterious body, a small Maine island, and the usual procession of rustic characters. You could call it North-Eastern noir, I suppose.
The series itself seems to be one of those 'in the flavor of' things, with no direct King connection – yet – outside of providing the source 'inspiration.' For the full story, let's turn the mic over to SyFy's newly minted press release:
Syfy has ordered 13 episodes of the supernatural drama series Haven, based on the novella “The Colorado Kid,” from renowned author Stephen King. Haven from E1 Entertainment will be the first property to be produced for Syfy Pay channels around the globe (excluding Canada and Scandinavia). The announcement was made today by Mark Stern, …

Even in its third helping, Ice Age retains its freshness to a remarkable degree.
This one works more satisfactorily than part two, with the addition of dinosaurs living in a lovingly realised underworld, and is nicely balanced between thrills, spills and cute critters for the kids and some witty lines for the rest of us. As ever, it's topped and tailed by Scrat's search for an acorn, a running gag and virtual Holy Grail of the series, and a nod to Tex Avery and the Warners shorts.
This series is particularly strong on background and perspective. The notable additional character is voiced by Simon Pegg – he gets in everywhere this year – as a prehistoric weasel. Series regular Carlos Saldanha is again co-director, and with this one making $196m in the Us, there may well be more to come. Smart and inventive, it compares extremely well with the tired Shrek the Third. …

I have a personal kink when it comes to a good old fashioned fairy tale subversion. I can't explain it, but there's just something about messing with those classic tales that never fails to amuse me -- so you can see why I have a soft spot for the Shrek franchise. News of a fourth film first hit back in 2007 and now USA Today gives us our first look at the fairy tale comedy, as well as (good?) news that the fourth installment of the franchise, Shrek Forever After, will be the last (and as much as I liked the first two films, I'll admit that by the time we had reached Shrek the Third, the charm was wearing a little thin).
Bill Damaschke, head of creative production at DreamWorks and Mike Mitchell (Sky High) gave some hints as to what we should expect from Shrek Forever After, and according to Mitchell, …

We have our first look at the fourth Shrek movie - Shrek Forever After - courtesy of USA Today. That's the big green ogre below and, apparently, Clay Aiken?
It's a slightly more realistic look than previous versions of Shrek, and there's a good reason for that: The fourth movie will be in 3-D. A lot of that going around these days. And that's not Clay Aiken but rather Rumplestiltskin, who has made brief appearances before in the series. The character will not have a celebrity voice, but is instead brought to life by Walt Dohrn from the Shrek story department.
The May 21, 2010 release date is also the last time we'll have a new Shrek feature in theaters, according to the article. Of course, there's also the Puss in Boots movie with Antonio Banderas, which has been in the works for years now, but DreamWorks is retiring one of the most successful animated franchise ever, …

Shrek Forever After just seems like an act in overkill. Many (those who actually appreciated the humor found in the first, two films, anyway) believed the franchise fell off a cliff with Shrek The Third. We’ll see if this fourth film can redeem the series. We’ll leave the judgment up to you based on this synopsis:
After fathering triplets, Shrek feels a bit over-domesticated. He strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin to get his ogre mojo back. Something goes horribly wrong, and Shrek must experience what life in Far Far Away would have been like had he never existed.
This synopsis and the first, official shot of the film you see above come to us courtesy of USA Today. Okay, the idea of bringing the “mojo” concept in from the Austin Powers films is a bit intriguing. Head of creative production at DreamWorks, Bill Damaschke and director Mike Mitchell …

USA Today got the first official image from Shrek Forever After, which they say will be the last outing for Shrek and the gang. It had to end at some point, and I got the feeling they were running low on creative steam during Shrek the Third. However, they plan to finish on a high: “All [...] …

Ever since Dreamworks Animation announced their line-up for 2009-2012 earlier this year, there seems to have been a distinct lack of info coming out about arguably their biggest upcoming film, the fourth installment in the highly successful Shrek franchise, this time entitled Shrek Forever After (previously Shrek Goes Fourth). More focus has been placed on the spin-off film, Puss In Boots, particularly with voice star Antonio Banderas giving us some insight into what characters will appear in the movie, etc…
However, today, thanks to USA Today, we have our first look at Shrek Forever After, as well as the first in-depth synopsis of the film. Unfortunately the image isn’t high-res, or even that big of a size, but it nonetheless give us our first look at the film which may or may not be highly-anticipated after the critical failure that was Shrek the Third. Here’s the synopsis, as …

It’s been known for some time that Shrek Forever After, the fourth and final installment in the Shrek series, is in the works, but very little had been said about what exactly the last film would focus on.
The third film ended with the birth of Shrek and Fiona’s ogre-babies, so it could be assumed that the fourth movie would follow up on the family life of the Shrek clan.
Well, plot details have finally come out, and Shrek Forever After does follow Shrek’s life as family man, but not in the most happily-ever-after way.
Instead, Shrek feels he has become too domesticated. The ogre that used to send villagers running in terror has become a local celebrity, with those who were formerly afraid of him seeking autographs from the big green guy.
Shrek strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin to get his edge back which, if you know the story of Rumpelstiltskin, …

"Shrek Forever After" is starting to get in shape with the release of the promotional arts and the official synopsis. In the first still of the fourth film, the beloved green ogre is pictured with Rumpelstiltskin, the little troublemaker who made brief appearances in "Shrek 2" and "Shrek the Third". There's also a look of a smiling Donkey who is voiced once again by Eddie Murphy.
"Forever After" will see Shrek striking a deal with Rumpelstiltskin to regain his ogre mojo. After getting hitched to ogress Fiona and having triplets, Shrek "has lost his roar" that used to send villagers running away in terror. "Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches," said director Mike Mitchell.
According to USA Today that got a hand of the stills, the pact will go awry and "Shrek must confront what life would be like in Far Far …

The UK has officially caught Stephenie Meyer fever after The Twilight Saga: New Moon's strident opening weekend, and the Coens' A Serious Man deals another little cut to star prestige
The winner
When the original Twilight movie arrived in the UK last December, it opened with a decent £2.51m – not a bad number, considering Stephenie Meyer's books had yet to achieve blockbuster status. But it was far, far behind the Us debut figure for the picture: $69.6m (£42.1m).
What a difference a year makes. With the first Twilight film a huge phenomenon on DVD, and the Meyer books belatedly reaching a wide UK readership, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan have ascended to iconic characters here, and Britain has succumbed to R-Pattz mania. Now sequel New Moon has debuted in the UK with £11.68m, which is a whopping 4.6 times the opening weekend of the original film. In three days, …

Over on CBS, Ghost Whisperer drew 8.43m at 8pm, 7.8m tuned in for Medium during the 9pm hour, and the 10pm Numb3rs put in 7.84m. NBC's (more) …
