We all love Morgan Freeman, right? He's like our national grandfather, with his weathered face and soothing voice showing up in commercials and movies to tell us how to be better people and get through the rough times. I mean, he's playing Nelson Mandela in Invictus this fall. That's gravitas in a nutshell. But when Freeman does comedy, the results are typically a little more mixed-- Bruce Almighty turned out Ok, but then there was Evan Almighty. I didn't see The Bucket List, and hopefully neither did you. So I'm not quite sure what to think about Freeman signing on to star in a comedy at Warner Bros. with the working title Dirty Old Men (ugh), about an aging playboy who finally settles down and his longtime wingman (Freeman) who tries to break the couple up. Unsurprisingly, THR is reporting that they want Jack Nicholson to play the playboy, reteaming »

Oh Adam Sandler, has it really come to this? You've now sunk to cross-dressing for a paycheck? We've learned tonight that Sandler will star in the romantic comedy Jack and Jill, and he'll be playing both the titular Jack and his twin sister Jill. I'm assuming the romance isn't between the siblings---although that would probably make things a bit more interesting. Screenwriting duties come courtesy of Steven Koren (Evan Almighty, Click), which gives us an idea of where this film will land among Sandler's other films. After loving his performance in this year's Funny People, it's sort of sad to see Sandler so quickly fall into his typical routine---especially after that Apatow film did such a great job of lampooning Sandler's career. One could easily see this project as one of the embarrassing films in Funny People starring a comedian who's more than a little burnt out. But perhaps I'm »

The lovable and hilarious Steve Carell is a bona-fide TV star, but his big screen career has never taken off quite the same way. There were plenty of successes along the way, and he hasn't had an honest to goodness flop (actually, Evan Almighty lost a whole lot of money), but he just hasn't had that movie role that makes you think "Uh-oh, I think Scranton is going to get a new branch manager," you know? I don't know if Carell's latest will be the role that makes him into a full-fledged movie star, but The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business Blog is reporting that the comedian is in talks to star in the golf-comedy Missing Links.
Links is based on Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly's novel by the same name, and it centers on a group of working class friends who scheme to sneak into an elite country club »

Fresh off the set in New York come a slew of photos of Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson from the upcoming Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy-cop comedy, The Other Guys. Those familiar with Johnson’s film repertoire might be surprised to find that there is not single tutu, fairy costume or alien child associated with this latest role.
The film is a collaboration between Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) and Chris Henchy. The pair recently worked with Henchy writing and McKay producing this summers Land of the Lost.
Set in New York City, The Other Guys follows Detective Allen Gamble (Ferrell), a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg), who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an embarrassing public incident with his quick trigger finger. Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, »

Steve Carell's eight-year-old daughter is learning how to profit from her dad's celebrity - by selling lemonade to paparazzi lurking around their Los Angeles home.
The Evan Almighty star admits he had low expectations of little Annie's business venture, and was shocked when his daughter came back with a pocket full of cash - after helping paparazzi trailing neighbourhood celebrities cool down with summer drinks.
He explains, "She went down to the corner... I figured she'd come back in half an hour or an hour with 75 cents. She came back with $36 in half an hour.
"Billy Ray Cyrus (came) by walking his dog and drops $20 on a cup of lemonade, so she keeps the $20 (GBP13). Then the paparazzi who had been following Billy Ray Cyrus, they all came and bought lemonade as well. And then the police who were called to chase the paparazzi circle back and bought lemonade. Now she thinks she can do that for a living." »

Amid the roar of hype, gossip and Michael Bay takedowns surrounding Jennifer's Body, listen for the sound of a star being born. Or maybe not "born"; Johnny Simmons is 22, after all, and has already played the son of Steve Carell (Evan Almighty) and Susan Sarandon and Pierce Brosnan (The Greatest) in the four years since he moved to Hollywood from his hometown of Dallas. But those and his other major parts in Hotel for Dogs and The Spirit didn't quite prepare him for the spotlight that is Jennifer's Body. He co-stars as Chip Dove, the boyfriend of Needy Lesnicky (Amanda Seyfried) and putative prey of Needy's demon-possessed Bff Jennifer Check (Megan Fox). »

Nothing can spot Green Hornet now! Ok, there’s actually probably tons of things that could continue to interfere with this production going smoothly. At least it looks like Seth Rogen is keeping the weight off! One thing that is interesting is Nic Cage (who Variety reported was signed up …) is still in negotiating to be the villain.
Here’s the news release …
A classic character of film, television, radio and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen (Superbad, Knocked Up) as the vigilante crime-fighter. Over the weekend, news broke that the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet was being pushed back to allow for more post-production time. The five-month delay, which moves the film from its original Summer release to a holiday opening a week before Christmas, sure isn’t slowing down production of the film.
In recent weeks, we’ve heard about several casting decisions for the Seth Rogen-starrer including that of Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) and Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou taking over the role as Green Hornet’s side-kick, Kato. More recently, there’s been two more additions to the growing cast of talented and recognizable stars: Tom Wilkinson and David Harbour.
The official press release is as follows:

"Stretching" the Boundaries of Believability: Flexible children's toy "Stretch Armstrong" is being adapted into a feature film set to be released by Universal Pictures on "...April 15, 2011...." The writer attached to the project is Steve Odekerk, screenwriter of "Bruce Almighty" and sequel "Evan Almighty," as well as the Robin Williams vehicle "Patch Adams." This is a decent comic resume, but I don't think the pedigree of the writer is really the determining factor here (although it it is still an important feature in any film's success or failure). I think the film's concept itself is so ludicrous that one questions why the attempt is even being made. How much of a plot can be constructed around a superhero whose limbs have a large degree of stretchability? "Oh no, the arms are elongating...!" I guess given Odekerk's comedic background, the film will probably be straight quirky comedy-i can't see it as much »

Say it ain't so! Back in February, Universal announced that they were making a movie based on the action figure Stretch Armstrong. Sure, Transformers is based on a toy as well, but a Stretch Armstrong movie, come on?! Evan Almighty writer Steve Oedekerk had been hired to work on the script, but that's all we knew. Then just last week, Brian Grazer was announced as the producer, which meant this wasn't just a throwaway project. While browsing through BusinessWeek, our friends over at IESB noticed that they specifically say that Oscar winning Frost/Nixon director Ron Howard will be directing it. Really?! Here's the quote from the BusinessWire piece "With Transformers, Hasbro Morphs Its Toy-Movie Model": There's more on the way. Hasbro has a movie based on its G.I. Joe toy line coming out on Aug. 7. The company has an April 2011 release for a movie version of its Stretch Armstrong figure, »

Hot off the heels of the riveting announcement two days ago that Waldo (of Where's? fame) will be getting his own feature-length film, Universal Pictures is warning everyone ahead of time that Stretch Armstrong will be the first film they release amongst the 6-picture deal they've made with toymaker Hasbro. Brian Grazer is tackling the challenge, adding the film to the already-giant pile of films that the man has produced including the in-production Ridley Scott take on Robin Hood. And who would best face the ridiculousness of writing a franchise based off a children's toy? No, not Michael (Awesome) Bay. Steve Oedekerk (from the mind that brought you Evan Almighty!) will be lending his particular level of mediocre comedic talent to the scriptwriting job. With Stretch coming first out of the gate on April 15, 2011, Universal will then deliver the onslaught of: Ridley Scott's Monopoly Gore Verbinski's Clue Kevin Lima's Candyland Peter Berg's Battleship »

Universal Pictures and Hasbro have announced that "Stretch Armstrong" will be released in theaters on April 15th, 2011. The feature film is a first under Universal and Hasbro's six-year partnership. Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty) is writing the screenplay for the action/adventure based on the toy that was made popular around the world beginning in the 1970s and re-launched in the 1990's. Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster) will oversee the project. Stretch Armstrong is an iconic toy that kids around the world enjoyed stretching up to four feet before returning to his original shape. Through the years, the product line stretched into a wide range of toys and supporting characters that built upon the Stretch Armstrong legacy. "Stretch Armstrong is a character I have wanted to see on screen for a long time," said Grazer. "He's an unconventional kind of super hero with a »

Yes, it's still happening. Hasbro didn't get too wrapped up in their plans to make movies of Battleship and Candy Land that they forgot about Stretch Armstrong, the multi-talented action figure who got picked up for duty on the big screen a few months ago. The movie, which will be written by Evan Almighty writer Steve Oedekerk, has been given a release date of April 15, 2011. In addition, Brian Grazer-- usually known for producing Oscar-friendly stuff like A Beautiful Mind-- is joining as a producer for some reason. In a press release picked up by IESB, Grazer said, "Stretch Armstrong is a character I have wanted to see on screen for a long time. He's an unconventional kind of super hero with a power that no one would want. It's a story about a guy stretching - if you will - the limits of what is possible to become »

It can be hard to watch when cars get trashed in movies – especially when they’re particularly sweet rides. Want to kick the crap out of an old banger? Be our guest, but reducing to scrap something as special as a Corvette is criminal. Yet Hollywood keeps on having a go. A 1985 Chevrolet Corvette C4 feels the fury of Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) and his crow bar in The Big Lebowski. Ouch! And a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray [C2] goes for a ride when accidentally attached to a plane before crash landing in Con Air. Eek! And now another Corvette is being shown very little love, this time in sci-fi blockbuster Star Trek when the young James T. Kirk (played by Evan Almighty’s Jimmy Bennett) steals his step-dad’s pride and joy, a Chevrolet Corvette C2 and goes for a spin. Let’s hope he’s got insurance…
