Three Geordie lads are on a camping trip in the forest. As they mess around with the car and beers a pair of spacecrafts many thousands of miles out in space hit a meteor storm. One of the craft crashes on Earth where the pilot is found, dead, by the lads. When they start messing around with the alien's weapons and gadgets they accidentally launch a flare into space. They continue to mess around unaware that the other craft has pinpointed his companion's location.
I saw this film as part of the regular 7' short film night held at the Rainbow in Birmingham. Out of all the shorts shown that night, only one really got the entire audience going and it was this one. The film was hilarious and all the funnier for just how strange it all was. The lads are hilarious as they start messing around with the weapons, including trying to hold up the alien body as a target. It may not make a great deal of sense if you're after plot but it is hilarious nonetheless. Even though the script is basic it is very well written as a sketch. The actions of the Geordie lads are hilarious yet still fitting with the characters that we have been presented with twenty-something lads, on the p*ss having a mess around!
What was even more surprising was just how good the effects were. Considering that this is a local short film that must have had quite a small budget it looked good. The spaceship stuff looks good and the second alien is very slick. The dead alien looks silly and is a little doll but it is meant to look that way for comedy effect.
Overall this was a simply but hilarious little short with effects that are far better than the budget would suggest. Everyone loves the chance to laugh at thick Geordie lads and this is as good a reason as any to do so. This film received very loud applause and cheers when it finished, and rightly so.
