Felicity Huffman earned her first Academy Award nomination for her performance as a pro-op transsexual preparing for the final surgical step in the transformation from man to woman when she learns that she has a son from a college encounter, a 17 year old boy (Kevin Zegers) in jail. She bails him out without divulging her true identity and takes him along on a cross-country odyssey from New York to her home in Los Angeles, with a stop to meet her parents (Fionnula Flanagan and Burt Young) in Phoenix. Elizabeth Peņa, Graham Greene and Carrie Preston co-star in the debut feature from writer/director Duncan Tucker, who won an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.
