noir delight

I saw this recently at a film festival and was blown away. Every time I thought I knew where it was going, another thing happened to up the suspense and stakes even more. I keep wondering why we don't see things like this on cable instead of the nine millionth replay of some lame, predictable been-there, done-that. A real original story with definite homage to the classic noir thrillers. It was very stylized and subtextual without hitting you over the head with the obvious. The acting was great. The lighting and camera work top-notch. And the music! I hope they decide to come out with a CD or have it available on itunes or for download. I can't rave about this enough!

Sexy and suspenseful.

This story hooked me from the start. From the opening sequence of the slow reveal to the games and one-upping these two characters do throughout the film, I never knew who was fooling whom. The cinematography, acting, writing and directing were top-notch; it left me wanting more! It reminded me of a cross between BOUND, and CHOOSE ME with a little bit of Hitchcock for good measure. But make no mistake, this film is truly original. All the components nicely compliment each other without standing out to take away from the story from the costumes to the music to the production design. Can't wait for future films from this team!

A ten plus

"The Rules" is an awesome flick. I first thought it was going to be just some moody, dark piece. And though it did have these elements, what really impressed me was how smart, compelling and even a little creepy it was. But, it was all so well done and totally appropriate. I thought about the story for quite awhile after seeing it. And while watching it, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. The lighting, the colors, the setting, the subject matter - all tied together and complimented each other very well. A total must-see for those who like not only this genre, but something that challenges you and makes you think. A 10 plus.
