- Thomas Jane declined the role of Joey Gazelle due to scheduling conflicts. Paul Walker was a second choice.
- The medicine bottle that Oleg uses to find the address of Dez and Adele's apartment is a prescription for Zovirax, a medication used to treat Cold Sores.
- The word "fuck" is said 328 times.
- Most of the bloody gunshot wounds were CGI. The only real squibs used were in the Black Light Hockey Rink Shootout. In the commentary, Wayne Kramer mentions that Bruce Altman was terrified of the squibs because he's never been strapped to them before.
- Wayne Kramer was shocked to find out that the movie got the R rating on the first submission. He states in the DVD commentary that he thought that he would get NC-17, but he luckily didn't.
- Detective Rydell (the character played by Chazz Palminteri) is named after actor/director Mark Rydell, the director of The Cowboys (1972), a film referenced many times in this film.
- When Oleg says he listens to "Kvasha", this is a direct reference to not only the music type, but also Oleg Kvasha who first played for the NHL team Florida Panthers back in 1996. The first name "Oleg" also happens to be Cameron Bright's character's first-name: Oleg Yugorsky.
- Edele's last name is "Hansel" (as shown on the prescription bottle that Oleg finds). This is likely a reference to the Germanic tale of Hansel and Gretel who are ensnared by a witch who lures children with candy into her house in order to eat them. When Teresa Gazelle enters the play room for the second time (after she almost leaves), she makes a cryptic comment "It's like some kind of a lore", which edifies the Hansel and Gretel idea. Lastly, Teresa makes a point of looking at the door mat. The scattered letters appear to spell "Willkommen", which is German for "Welcome".
- When Adele enters the security code at the front door of the apartment, the sound of the numbers pressed results in the first few bars of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".
