Watch the first 8 minutes of V

24 October 2009 10:08 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

ABC has released the first eight minutes of the first episode of the reimagined V, set for broadcast on November 3.

The new V follows the storyline of the 1980s original where a seemingly benevolent alien race arrives in gigantic flying saucers and offers us their friendship and technology in exchange for help for their world. However, the new V has a different slate of characters to it including the main one, FBI agent Erica Evans (played by Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell.) Evans uncovers signs that point to a secret agenda behind the Visitors, one that will mark the end of humanity if it's allowed to unfold to its fruition. Morena Baccarin (Firefly) plays Anna, the Visitors' leader, Morris Chestnut (The Cave) is Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (The 4400) is Father Jack and Scott Wolf (Party of Five) is Chad Decker, an ambitious television news personality.

'V' Producers Dodge Race Question

25 July 2009 6:35 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

V, the remake of the 1980s-era miniseries about aliens coming to Earth, was the focus of a panel at Comic-Con on Saturday.

And while most of the one-hour event was taken up with a screening of the pilot episode, the most significant moment of the panel occurred when an audience member was censored from asking a relevant and thought-provoking question about race.

The new series, which has been booked by ABC as a mid-season replacement, stars Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) as FBI agent and single mother Erica Evans. Also starring in the series are Morris Chestnut (The Cave) as businessman Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (The 4400) as Catholic priest Jack Landry, Scott Wolf (Everwood) as news anchor Chad Decker and Morena Baccarin (Firefly) as Anna, head of the alien visitors that call themselves the V.

The pilot does a good job of setting up the series, and seeding the idea that »

'V' Gets Its First Visitor!

4 March 2009 6:00 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

ABC's V pilot has cast its first Visitor.  The good old Hollywood Reporter says that Morris Chestnut will star as the boyfriend of the female lead – a Homeland Security agent who is heading up the alien taskforce.  The female lead has not been cast yet.  The agent does not know her boyfriend is a Visitor, one of the alien race intent on enslaving humanity.  Sounds like a case for Dr. Phil.   The pilot, produced by Warner Bros., is based on the 1980s TV miniseries and series.  Chestnut's credits include Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and The Cave.  Interesting fact: one of Chestnut's first acting roles was in an episode of the short-lived syndicated TV series... »

Before the Oscars, They Belonged to Us, Part 2

25 February 2009 2:52 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Disclaimer: This article may contain sarcasm; irony and “LOLs” proceed with caution.

Our second stab at the Oscars contains make-up effects and score (read part 1 here). The make-up effects, followed by the visual effects and technical awards, remain my favorite parts of the show; here you got to see your heroes: Rick Baker, Howard Berger, Chris Walas or Rob Bottin in the audience. Even the great Stan Winston could have been out there, back in the day. Though best known for his “visual effects” wins—he brought home an Oscar for best make-up in 1991 for Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Here genre fans can rejoice, Greg Cannom brought home the gold, again, for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cannom, a genre elder, worked alongside (just to name a few) Fincher, Coppola, Landis, Dante, Blatty, and Cohen creating all sorts of character and creature make-ups.

Mark Waters Takes Minimum Wage

9 January 2009 1:19 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Ready for the first credit-crunch comedy? Well, director Mark Waters seems to be, with the news that he's in talks to direct Minimum Wage. From the synopsis below, you'll see that it's less a film and more a blueprint as to how we should treat the various bankers and hedge fund managers who played such a large role in messing up the world economy. The script, by Tegan West (The Cave)and Scott Atkinson, centres on a corrupt corporate executive who is convicted of fraud and sentenced to a year of living in the community he bankrupted on minimum wage. There, we have a sneaking suspicion that he will learn the error of his ways and become a better person, but only time will tell.Waters, the man who directed Mean Girls, most recently made The Spiderwick Chronicles and the upcoming The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, so this marks something of a change of pace for him. »
