When we first heard about it, we were told that the Joss Whedon co-written horror film The Cabin in the Woods is going to be scary. We were later told that the film, which was co-written and directed by Cloverfield scribe Drew Goddard is going to be really, really scary. Now we're being told that it's being pushed back a year so that it can be converted to 3D. ShockTillYouDrop talked to MGM reps, who said that the studio has decided to push the film back from its original February 5, 2010 release date to January 14, 2011. They say that the early response to the film has been phenomenal and they'd like to take six months or so and convert it to 3D. Despite all of the red-hot buzz emanating from this project, this decision is still curious. For one, the film was not filmed in 3D, so the conversion to 3D (and subsequent delay due to lack of availability »

Whiteout babe Kate Beckinsale has been named 2009’s Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire magazine.
The 36-year-old British actress known for her roles as an arse-kicker in Underworld, Underworld: Evolution and Van Helsing (don’t discount bombs like Click and Vacancy) snatches the title from Halle Berry, who was named last year’s top sexpot.
[Check out the pics below after some pesky words along with a video from Esquire]
“This whole notion of being named Sexiest Woman Alive is going to earn me quite a beating,” Beckinsale said. “You can’t have that title with four brothers. I’ll get wedgies. I’m feeling that I must earn this – I need to go out and become much better at pole dancing or something.”
Beckinsale will starring in the comedy-drama movie Everybodys Fine. It opens wide on December 4th in the U.S.

News of a fourth Underworld broke nearly four weeks ago, much to the surprise of Kate Beckinsale, who starred in both the first and second installments. Underworld 4 is slated to be shot in 3D and will be the first of a new trilogy of Underworld movies, but when Collider asked Beckinsale about Underworld 4, she wasn't aware of the new developments:
God, three whole more! I don't think my daughter needs to see my bottom in rubber for another ten years. But I don't know, I've heard they're talking about a fourth one, but I don't know if that's officially happening or if that's a rumor. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a rumor. According to studio Screen Gems, it's not a rumor, especially after Underworld: Rise of the Lycans scored $91 million dollars worldwide, almost triple its budget. However ignorant Beckinsale may have been about Underworld 4, her return to the »

Hollywood star Lauren Bacall had some strong words to say on the vampire romance movie Twilight recently, if you believed the online reports.
It was claimed the actress wrote on her Twitter page: "I saw Twilight - my granddaughter made me watch it, she said it was the greatest vampire film ever.
"After the 'film' was over I wanted to smack her across her head with my shoe, but I do not want a book called Grannie Dearest written on me when I die.
"So instead I gave her a DVD of Murnau's 1922 masterpiece Nosferatu and told her, 'Now that's a vampire film!' And that goes for all of you! Watch Nosferatu instead!"
It's since been said that this Twitter rant is by an imposter posing as Ms Bacall. But is it right? Is Twilight that bad that enjoying it merits a whack around the head with a shoe? »

Kate Beckinsale has put the brake on the rumor of her returning to "Underworld 4". In a press conference for her upcoming thriller "Whiteout" on Friday, August 28, she told Collider she still did not know whether she would reprise her role as Selene in another "Underworld" film, insisting report "is just a rumor."
"God, three whole more!" Beckinsale stated when she was asked about report which said she has signed on to a new "Underworld" trilogy. She added, "I don't think my daughter needs to see my bottom in rubber for another ten years. But I don't know, I've heard they're talking about a 4th one, but I don't know if that's officially happening or it's that a rumor. As far as I'm concerned it's just a rumor."
Asked if she will do another "Underworld" movie, Beckinsale answered, "I don't know anything about a 4th Underworld. I don't know anything about that at this point. »

There is a chance that "Underworld 4", the first film of the proposed new "Underworld" trilogy, is going to see a familiar face with Kate Beckinsale rumored to be attached. Two sources have informed Bloody-Disgusting (Bd) about the 36-year-old actress' return to the series to reprise her Selene character.
If the rumor were true, her appearance in this fourth movie will mark her return in person to the series after only providing Selene's voiceover in the beginning and end of "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans". Bd noted that there is yet official confirmation from the people involved in the development of "Underworld 4" about her attachment.
In early August, it was reported that Screen Gems is moving ahead with a fourth "Underworld" film. The studio planned to shot the new movie in 3-D and is targeting a U.S. release on January 21, 2011. Soon thereafter, words were coming out that the studio was »

Will “Underworld 4″ (expect the number to go the way of the dinosaurs and be replaced with an action-packed sounding subtitle) be the start of a whole new trilogy that will bring back the Selene character originally played by Kate Beckinsale in the first two “Underworld” movies? At least that’s what the guys at Styd are hearing just days after breaking the news that there would be a fourth movie. Besides being shot in the trendy 3D, “Underworld 4″ is being looked at by the studio as the beginning of a completely new trilogy. And I have to say, yeah, I can dig it. Even if it doesn’t involve Selene (or Kate Beckinsale doesn’t return), as long as it continues the storyline from “Underworld: Evolution”, it should be interesting. By the by, they’ve been playing “Evolution” on basic cable these last few days, and I have to admit, »

If you thought the news of Underworld 4 coming our way in 3D was a surprise, how about the idea of an entire new trilogy of Underworld films!
According to Ryan Rotten at ShockTillYouDrop.com, insiders have informed him that Sony’s Screen Gems is looking to launch not one new film, but three. Interestingly, the report claims that they’re looking at the story centering in on the character of Selene, played by Kate Beckinsale in the original two Underworld films.
Nothing’s confirmed yet, but bringing back the hot star of the first two is what many fans wanted instead of the Rise of the Lycans prequel.
Will this take place also before the first Underworld or will it follow her after the events of Underworld: Evolution? Could this mean that Scott Speedman will be back as well and we’ll get to see what happens with the characters »

Add together the current trends for vampires, werewolves and 3D filmmaking and you have the ingredients for a fourth film in the Underworld franchise.
Although clawed by critics, the three previous fantasy horror adventures have been stylish, enjoyable and well-received.
Fans will be pleased to hear that Screen Gems is now moving ahead on Underworld 4 with a view to a release date of January 21, 2011.
Shock Till You Drop reports that the movie will be shot in 3D, like Resident Evil: Afterlife.
All three previous movies have done well at the box office. Underworld, back in 2003, made $96m on a $22m budget; Underworld: Evolution made $111m on a $45m budget in 2003; and this year's prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans made $91million on a $35m budget.
Len Wiseman directed the first two, in which his wife Kate Beckinsale starred as vampire Selene, with Patrick Tatopoulos taking the reins on Rise of the Lycans. »

Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl is exactly what you’d expect from a teaming of the directors (Yoshihiro Nishimura and Naoyuki Tomomatsu) who gave us Tokyo Gore Police and Stacy: a supergory collision between schoolgirls and the undead that represents the zenith of extreme Japanese splatter satire. And it has arrived at the New York Asian Film Festival just in time to show up Blood: The Last Vampire, which opens July 10 and represents a nadir in English-language adaptations of Far East fright fare.
Both films detail what happens when a young woman with bloodsucking tendencies comes to a new school, which in the case of Vampire Girl is already a haven for all sorts of freaks, some of whom have formed their own clubs. There’s one group of coeds who have raised self-cutting with razors to the level of a competitive sport, and another bunch who take the »

There is a bumper edition of new releases this week on the Blu-ray format, although there isn’t a great deal of discs that we’d consider to be “must have” out of the bunch. It is however a great week again for Trekkies, as the Original Motion Picture Collection is now available featuring all 6 films in the series. Liam Neeson’s action vehicle “Taken” also hits the shelves, as does “Fargo” a Coen Brothers masterpiece. Also notable for release are “Big”, “The Grudge”, the first season of “CSI” and the utterly dreadful “S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale”. Check out our “pick of the week” and links to all of the new releases below.
This week’s pick of the week is a tie. We featured “Fargo” as a pick last week in the UK release list, so we have to stay consistent, but we also feel that “The Good, »

The first thing that came to mind while watching Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (now on DVD from Sony Pictures) was that I had just seen Michael Sheen the night before in the excellent Frost/Nixon, and that an actor has to have a pretty good range to go from essaying the famous English interviewer/TV personality to playing a werewolf with a Spartacus complex. The second thing that crossed my mind was that while I’m not a fan of the first two UNDERWORLDs, and wasn’t eager to see this prequel, Rise Of The Lycans is an Ok movie and the best of the trilogy.
The first Underworld was a slick-looking werewolves-vs.-vampires flick that was light on character and heavy on CGI and Matrix influences. I felt the same about the follow-up, which I liked less. Trying to build on the original’s slim premise, Underworld: Evolution »

Lainey Gossip has posted a round-up of the week's New Moon filming, including some candid photos of flame-haired Victoria, actress Rachelle Lefevre.
The most interesting news is that several proposal scenes will be filmed, rather than just one. We don't know whether this is to keep the final scene a secret from fans, but if it is, it might be the best idea director Chris Weitz has ever had. "A tense discussion" between main players Bella, Jacob, and Edward was also filmed, as well as evening shoots at the new Cullen house.
Expect a lot more to follow over the next few weeks, as Twilight only took mere months to film. We're still wondering how the werewolf transformation scenes will look -- cheesy American Werewolf, or slightly more realistic Underworld: Evolution?

Even in good economic times, few of us have the kind of money required to throw around at movie prop auctions -- but oh, how sweet it is to look at them and wish.
A pretty amazing one is hitting the auction block this spring. Forrest J. Ackerman's horror collection is being sold, and if you know Ackerman at all, you realize he had some amazing stuff. Among the things going up for auction are Bela Lugosi's Dracula ring (pictured above), Lugosi's robe from The Raven, his cape from stage productions of Dracula, and a first edition of the Bram Stoker novel, signed by Stoker, Lugosi, and a slew of other famous people. Fritz Lang's monocle, which he wore during Metropolis filming, is the odd prop out right now, but no less cool. It's rather heartbreaking to see it scattered to the four winds though, isn't it? »

Vampire horror movie "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" should be satisfied with a second place position at the North American box office. Though grossing $20.8 million on its opening weekend, the Patrick Tatopoulos-directed film was still unable to steal the top position from "Paul Blart: Mall Cop".
"Rise of the Lycans" actually started the weekend strong. On Friday, January 23, it led the box office with $7.9 million in its pocket and overshadowed the $5.6 million bow of "Paul Blart". As the weekend ended, it was then unveiled that the "Underworld" prequel has become the weakest of the "Underworld" franchise as "Underworld: Evolution" opened to $26.9 million and "Underworld" brought in $21.8 million in its first weekend.
While the vampire thriller starring Rhona Mitra, Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy settled for second, "Paul Blart" showed its dominance by securing the top spot for second weekend in a row. The Kevin James' comedy raked in »

Paul Blart: Mall Cop retained the top spot again over the weekend, edging out the debut of the latest Underworld movie with $21.6 million. The action comedy stood its ground with a better-than-average 32 percent drop, and its collections grew to a hefty $64.9 million in ten days. Overall business was just as bullish, strong by January standards for the third weekend in a row with an eleven percent increase over the same timeframe last year. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans devolved the vampires-versus-werewolves franchise, grossing $20.8 million on approximately 3,500 screens at 2,942 theaters. The previous movie, Underworld: Evolution, opened to $26.9 million three years ago, while the first Underworld scored $21.8 million, and both would rate even higher factoring ticket price inflation.
