Simon Cowell is turning his U.K. TV talent show The X Factor into an international extravaganza - and he's picked larger-than-life Las Vegas as the contest's new home base.
The music mogul realised the potential for a global TV hit after viewers around the world began logging online to watch wannabe singers auditioning for his U.K. reality shows, including Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent.
And he believes he can persuade millions of people to tune into a worldwide version of The X Factor, which spawned singer Leona Lewis, by transferring it to Sin City to be broadcast on the web.
He's teaming up with billionaire retail boss Sir Philip Green for the new competition, which will be open to contestants across the planet.
Green explains, "The plan is to take it to Vegas. I'm not going to tell you with who, but the CEO of the venture is coming to see us next week. We'll have a permanent place, likely to be Caesar's Palace. The home of X Factor - live from Las Vegas.
"It'll all be online. You have 20, 30, 40 million people tuning in twice a week. You bring two or three hundred million viewers to a venue - off we go! It's taking The X Factor up a peg. The rest of the world is Part Two."
Cowell plans to air his global The X Factor on a pay-per-view internet station, reports Britain's The Sun. »

Sure, some would suggest that Jessica Alba really can't return to form since there never was a form to begin with. But there definitely was a time when Alba was an "It" girl -- the type to grace numerous magazine covers and star in big, flashy films like Sin City and The Fantastic Four. But then her star began to fade as she clumsily starred in one cruddy flick after another (Into the Blue, Good Luck Chuck, The Eye, Awake, The Love Guru), and with other, more sensational young actresses attempting to make their mark in Hollywood, Alba sort of fell by the wayside.
But now the gal has positioned herself with a few pretty interesting upcoming projects, including two produced by Robert Rodriguez (Machete, The Insiders), one that's based on a very good novel (An Invisible Sign of My Own) and one that finds the actress taking things farther »

Promoting the release of the action film Armored , director Nimrod Antal spoke to our brother site ComingSoon.net about the anticipated Predators , produced by Robert Rodriguez ( Sin City ). Antal touched on a number of subjects, from taking on the project to his preference for practical effects (created by the team at Knb Efx). One snippet from the Cs interview we found interesting was his take on the casting. Fans of the Predator raised an eyebrow when Adrien Brody and Topher Grace hopped aboard. "Let me tell you, I was so much of a fan that I stood in line when I was 14 and I had the poster on my wall. I was a huge fan," he said. "Again, it was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrien, there were a lot of people going, 'What?' but... »

After a slew of bad films like The Eye, Awake and The Love Guru, you.d think Jessica Alba would opt to lay low for a bit. I.m not talking off the radar low, but at least out of the spotlight where she can hone her acting skills and establish some sort of positive reputation. Apparently nobody has given her any advice along these lines, because Alba is picking up projects left and right. There.s the third Meet the Parents film, The Killer Inside Me, An Invisible Sign of My Own and, the newest addition, The Insiders. According to ICv2 (via Pajiba), Alba nabbed the rights to bring the Belgian graphic novel series The Insiders to life. Don.t worry, Alba isn.t taking this project on solo, she.s actually in good company with her Sin City director, Robert Rodriguez. Mabrouk el Mechri (Jcvd) will direct and »

After headlining Sin City and The Fantastic Four, Jessica Alba's just signed for The Insiders, the big-screen version of another comic series - this time one from, er, Belgium. Okay, so the phrase 'Belgian comic series' isn't exactly the sexiest selling point (no, not even when it's Tintin), but there's obviously something special about publisher Dargaud's illustrated adventuring, seeing as Alba stumped up a big chunk of the money herself to buy the rights. And the blurb certainly sounds interesting, with the film focusing on...

If you've had a chance to watch the grueling promo trailer for The Killer Inside Me, you know already that it's potenially the riskiest role of Jessica Alba's none-too-breathtaking career. I don't know whether it's a real step forward for her acting - it's only a trailer, even if it's longer than usual - but I can say in no uncertain terms that it's the most liberated she's been on screen, and whatever squeaky clean image she portrayed before I saw Casey Affleck whip her bare ass and slap her around has been at least temporarily reevaluated.
Pajiba now writes that Alba will pair with Mabrouk el Mechri, director of Jcvd, for the graphic novel adaptation The Insiders. Over the summer, Alba bought the rights to the Belgian comic book series with Robert Rodriguez, who is set to produce for his Sin City and Machete co-star. Alba will play an action heroine, »

Jessica "I would kill an orphan to touch you" Alba is set to star in "The Insiders." Based on a series of Belgian graphic novels, it's about “Najah Cruz, a Columbian who is as deadly as she is beautiful. She has the weapons expertise and combat skills of a James Bond. At the secret request of the White House she infiltrates a worldwide mafia-like organization composed of businessmen and politicians and becomes the bodyguard of the organization’s leader.” Ok, well, that premise has A) never been done before (I kid) and 2) could either be cool, or direct to DVD quality. I guess it all depends on who will direct it. Oh, wait, there's word on that too: We also know, from our inside source, that "Jcvd" director, Mabrouk el Mechri, will direct "The Insiders." Ok, "Jcvd" was pretty cool. If that director can get an emotional, single take, minutes-long »

There’s a lot to be thankful for in the Thanksgiving week episode of The Hills — the discovery of an evil plot, numerous girls-gone-wild moments in Vegas, Justin-Bobby’s flash of abs, even Audrina’s 187th realization that he’s just not that into her and that’s probably a good thing — and it’s all leading up to next week’s big finale. — Carrie Bell New Town, New Tools: They actually got off Kristin’s couch and hit the Strip. Jessica Alba is to re-unite with Robert Rodriguez in a film based on a series of Belgian graphic novels. Whilst the pair first teamed on the cinematic adaptation of Frank Miller’s Sin City, they are now to respectively star in and produce a big screen version of The Insiders. The director’s chair will, somewhat excitingly, go to Mabrouk el Mechri whose last film, the post modern action flick Jcvd, somehow made Jean Claude Van Damme not only relevant again but, unexpectedly, an art-house darling.
The Insiders focuses on the character Najah Cruz, a “Colombian who is as deadly as she is beautiful.” Armed with the weapons skills of James Bond Cruz must, according to icv2, “infiltrate a worldwide mafia-like organization composed of businessmen and politicians” to become the bodyguard of the organization’s leader.
The Insiders marks one of many projects Alba has lined up at the moment. »

Kelly Osbourne says she has delayed her wedding to Luke Worrall until 2011. To The Sun's TV Biz, the finalist of "Dancing with the Stars" season 9 reveals the reason for postponing the marriage, saying she wants to wait until her fiance hits 21 years old, which is the legal age for drinking in the United States.
"Luke and I are engaged and we'll get married when I want to. But he isn't even 21 yet, so he can't drink in America, so what's the point in getting married until he can?" Kelly, who is 6 years older than Luke, reveals. Previously, the 25-year-old beauty and the model planned to walk down the aisle in early 2010.
Kelly Osbourne and Luke Worrall were reported getting engaged in September 2008. Still in the same year, the lovebirds were rumored planning to get hitched in Las Vegas after they were allegedly caught observing an unusual marriage affair in the Sin City. »

Few of us have had the chance to read Rick Remender's upcoming series, The Last Days of American Crime, but it's already tapped for the big-screen treatment. To sweeten the deal, American Crime already has a face. An Australian one. Mania is reporting that Sam Worthington has signed on to play the series' star criminal, Graham Brick.
American Crime is set in a near-future where the government has found a way to kill the criminal impulse in its citizens. That's good for everyone but the criminals, and chaos erupts as the unsavory element goes mad trying to get in one last job. One of these men is Graham Brick, who is in the midst of planning a big heist, and gets to watch all his best laid plans fall apart in a bloody fashion. Carla Gugino has spent the better part of the last decade playing some of the most complicated and interesting female characters in Hollywood. After early roles in lighthearted fare like Son in Law, she played an appropriately combative counterpart for Michael J. Fox's deputy Mayor on Spin City before appearing in Wayne Wang's The Center of the World as a troubled seductress, Robert Rodriguez' Sin City as a tough-as-nails parole officer, Ridley Scott's American Gangster as Russell Crowe's exasperated ex-wife, and most recently in Zack Snyder's Watchmen as a sexpot superheroine with a pitch-black past. This month, she's acting in Sebastian Gutierrez' Women in Trouble, where she plays a porn star coming to terms with the news that she's pregnant.
Cinematical recently spoke to Gugino at the film's Los Angeles press day, where in between pointing out some of the bruises she earned »

Various clips and images for Rick Jacobson’s cleavage-heavy B-movie homage “Bitch Slap” have been circulating for over a year now, a number of which have appeared on this very site. However, yesterday several trailer-centric websites debuted a slightly retooled promo for the upcoming “Sin City”-esque actioner, leading me to believe that the picture may, in fact, be creeping closer to a release date. If you’ve already seen some of the older trailers floating around the ‘net, chances are this isn’t going to show you anything you haven’t already seen. The rest of you are in for a serious treat. Here’s all you need to know: “Bitch Slap” is a post-modern, thinking man’s throwback to the “B” Movie/Exploitation films of the 1950’s – 70’s as well as a loving, sly parody of same. Inspired by the likes of “Dragstrip Girls,” “Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill, »

At its core, acting is really just a grand lie told in the name of entertainment. It’s a bit incongruous, then, that when actors walk off the stage, we expect the opposite from them: the truth. We want to know who they are and what they stand for — and Kristanna Loken is one of the few actors who tells us.
Loken, who publicly came out as bisexual four years ago, has appeared in T3: Rise of the Machines, Painkiller Jane and The L Word. She also starred in Lime Salted Love, an independent film that became available on DVD last month.
In this exclusive interview with AfterEllen.com, Loken opens up for the first time about her separation from husband Noah Danby and about the new love in her life.
