Silly stuff!!!
FOLEYAXEL27 March 2004
This film was directed by Curtis Green. Mr. Green is a prof at my school. I recently took a film class that was taught by no other than Curtis Green. It was "the history of black cinema." It was a great course, and Prof. Green not only is a great prof., but can potentially become a new house hold name in directing. He is young, and hungry to get his feet wet in hollywood. He is very aware of the prejudice, discrimination, that is faced in Hollywood. But his knowledge on black cinema is intriguing, and can be beneficial to anyone who is interesting in that particular piece of black history!

The film obviously had no real budget and is at times very choppy to watch because of the lack of funds. However, it had some silly moments, and I'm still trying to figure out the ending!! I didn't get a chance to critique the film to Prof. Greene. It's the story of Roger, a geeky computer whiz who fantasizes about being with beautiful women!!! Unfortunately because of his geeky nature he has no luck in the women dept. But to make the story short the main model Roger fantasizes about somehow breaks her car down, and Roger is around to help out. It becomes this sort of Steve Urkel/Laura Winslow chase. After numerous bad attempts this girl simply tells Roger to leave her alone. Roger goes to a school to improve his look, and personality. He then becomes cool, and all the girls want him.

Roger somehow confuses his little love interests. When its all said and done the he gets the girl, and most wierd ending happens. I dont want to say what it is but I think it's silly.

Toward the end of that class, Prof. Green showed us bits of a film he is working on. I believe the film will be called "the game." It's about a couple of people who go and rent this house out for the weekend. We learn about different character development, and the sort. I thought it has some potential to be made in a hollywood setting. He claimed that it was just a treatment and the actors on it will not be in it (probably.) I told him personally to work hard, and put your name out there. If you think about it of all the stereotypical, garbage, that hollywood puts out for the black audience there is room for change and potential. We only have so few like Spike Lee.

I learned that there is so many great black films that are independently made. They may not be the ones you are familiar with but they are made with heart, and the hunger that we so desperately need. I'm not black, but I'm a person of mixed ethnicities, and like the majority would like to see better made quality films of not just black but to all types.

We do not need Hollywood to throw CGI effects down our throats. People want to see history, and great character developmental stories, just as much as action, and comedy. I would love to see a movie about Paul Robeson's life that would be great!!!!!!!

Work hard, and your dreams will come true!!!

Even for Roger.....

Majid

P.S. I can't thank you enough Prof. Green for the great lectures and profoundly opened my mind for more true cinema!!!
