Andrew Niccol (writer/director of Gattaca) takes us into an oppressive future once again with The Cross. The film follows two travelers (one played by Orlando Bloom) that reach a border through which the commanding guard (Vincent Cassel) lets no one pass. Ever. Conflict, of course, ensues.
Jean-Vincent Puzos (production desginer on this film and 10,000 BC) has created the following concept images for the future world of The Cross:
.
Niccol got an Oscar nomination for writing The Truman Show and Bloom seems to like blockbusters (see: Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, Troy). Between the two of them, the film could be both good and very profitable. Vincent Cassel showed playfulness in Ocean’s Twelve and a deadly serious side in films like Derailed and Eastern Promises. John Goodman also appears in The Cross - and speaking of Lotr who hasn’t longed for the return of King Ralph? »

Andrea Wong brought us The Bachelor! Now she's trying to reinvigorate Lifetime with positivity and fun.
If Project Runway had a needlepoint challenge, the show might find itself with an unlikely contestant. "About a year ago, I started needlepointing," confesses Andrea Wong, CEO of Lifetime Networks. She is perched on a chair in her Los Angeles office, wearing a black Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit. "It completely relaxes me." Well, usually. There was that time she was stitching a cushion for her boyfriend. "I was needlepointing while doing conference calls. It practically killed me."
Wong's coexisting affection for high fashion and homey crafts are the perfect metaphor for her plan to reinvigorate the dowdy, if successful, cable channel. Lifetime has been the top ad-backed female-focused network for years but, before Wong's 2007 arrival, was plagued with a reputation for lowbrow movies like My Stepson, My Lover. Its ratings were falling or flat for five straight years. »

Jennifer Aniston looked stunning in silver at the Women In Film 2009 Crystal And Lucy Awards in La on Friday. Chelsea Handler sneaked in a joke about John Mayer as she presented Jennifer with the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film. Aniston responded by making fun of her own love life saying, "I have a strange parallel with movies I was doing and my life off screen. First, it was The Good Girl...which evolved into Rumor Has It, followed by Derailed. Then there was The Breakup. Followed by the lighter side, Friends With Money. If anyone has a movie called Everlasting Love With an Adult Stable Man, that would be great! I'm at table six, and my agents are at table 12." Love her sense of humor. Jennifer was joined on the red carpet by some of her fellow leading ladies like Jodie Foster, Elizabeth Banks and Holly Hunter. Up-and-coming »

Jennifer Aniston took her chance to laugh off the intense media interest in her love life at a recent awards bash - by linking the titles of her most famous movies to her personal dramas.
The beauty took to the stage at the Accepting Women In Film ceremony on Friday to collect the Crystal Award - which honours her as an advocate for expanding the role of women in Hollywood.
And rather than giving the usual thanks-filled speech, Aniston used the podium to poke fun at her rocky love life.
She told the crowd, "I'm trying to be more careful than I have been in the past about the titles of movies that I choose to be in. It's funny - I kind of noticed something a couple years ago that there seemed to be this strange parallel to the movies I was doing and my life off screen.
"It started with, well, The Good Girl. Then that evolved into Rumour Has It, followed by Derailed, and then there was The Break-Up. And then on the lighter side was Friends with Money, which I felt was a bit on the nose."
And the star also took the chance to try and hunt down a new partner: "So if any of you have a project titled Everlasting Love with an Adult, Stable Male... "
The Friends actress' romances have been front page news since she shot to fame in the 1990s sitcom - her infamous divorce from Brad Pitt filled gossip columns, while her relationships with Vince Vaughn and singer John Mayer also came under avid scrutiny in the media. »

Mikael Håfström is set to direct New Line Cinema's "The Rite," an upcoming fact-based thriller based on a nonfiction book by Matt Baglio.
According to Variety, the film follows a young man who joins the Vatican's newly formed Exorcism School, where he soon finds himself facing the devil.
Michael Petroni, whose credits include "Queen of the Damned" and the upcoming "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," wrote the script.
Håfström also directed "Derailed" (a film I absolutely hated) and "1408" (one I mildly enjoyed). He's currently wrapping up "Shanghai," starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, John Cusack, David Morse and Franka Potente. »

British actor Clive Owen has discovered the pitfalls of fame - his daughters keep hassling him to set up a meeting with Jennifer Aniston. The Closer star became pals with Aniston during filming for their 2005 movie Derailed.
And when his daughters Hannah, 12, and Eve, nine, realised their dad knows the Friends actress, they hoped he could use his influence to arrange a meeting.
He tells USA Today, "Weirdly, they've become obsessed by Friends. My oldest daughter is obsessed, and she knows I worked with Jennifer Aniston, so she's like, 'Call her up, call her up'. I'm not calling her up. What are you going to say to her? They hit me up for weird things like that."
But despite the strains of bringing up two girls, Owen insists he loves fatherhood - and is determined to devote even more time to his family.
He says, "I've been travelling so much that I want to hang at home. We used to take the family on holidays and adventures, but more and more, I want to go home and stay at home.
"I love getting up in the morning and taking them to school and picking them up and hanging with them. In the last year or two, if I go away for a certain amount of time to make a film, I make sure I have down time at home to keep the balance right."
And although the girls love having a famous father, Owen insists they will not be allowed to watch all his movies until they are old enough.
He adds: "They've started to understand what I do. They come to every film. They meet everybody. But they're not allowed to see the film. Most films I do are not appropriate. When they turn 18, they can watch Closer." »
