  • Factual errors: At the beginning of the movie (when it is January) it is pitch black out for all the night scenes. That close to the South Pole the sun would be above the horizon for at least twenty-three hours per day, and the sky would still be quite bright for the other hour. Also, just before the dogs are rescued, (July time frame) shadows are seen indicating that the sun is pretty much directly overhead. During this time of year, the sun is only above the horizon for about an hour per day, and would never be anywhere near that high in the sky.

  • Anachronisms: Story takes place in the early 1990s. However, when Jerry is walking down the street in Washington D.C., several present-day cars can be seen driving around.

  • Anachronisms: The movie is set in 1993, but when the characters are drinking Fresca, the bottles have white labels. Fresca did not adopt a white label until 2005.

  • Crew or equipment visible: At the point where one of the twins is offering the female leader a dead seagull, he looks towards screen left and backs up. At the same time, if you follow his gaze, the trainer's hand can be seen for an instant motioning towards him.

  • Continuity: At the celebration evening for the finding of the meteor, Jerry is served a glass of beer without collar. When he turns around and walks to the table, the glass suddenly has a collar.

  • Errors in geography: The Norwegian vessel "Polarsyssel" used in the movie, was used by the government on Svalbared, north of Norway, between 1988 and 2002, so it could not have been in Antarctica in 1993. The helicopter they used was registered in Norway (LN).

  • Revealing mistakes: When Max sees the seagull for the first time, he finally breaks loose of the chain and chases after it. The other dogs run off with him and if you look close enough, there are 7 dogs that run together after the bird. However, there should be 6 since Maya and Old Jack are still at the base.

  • Continuity: The scene where the dogs first catches the seagulls and lay them in front of Maya, if you look carefully when the dog name Truman approaches Maya he has a collar on but then when he drops the seagull, the collar is gone. He then brings another seagull to her and at that point the collar is back on.

  • Continuity: When Jerry and Mindo are sitting at the table in Mindo's cabin, there are plates on the place mats in front of them while Mindo is looking at the photo album. The scene then shifts to Mindo, then back to Jerry where the plates are now missing.

  • Continuity: In the tent scene containing Jerry and Davis. Davis hands him a picture of his family, soon after Jerry hands it back and starts playing with the dog yet in the next scene he hands the picture back again.

  • Continuity: When Jerry was back in Washington etc. it was in February and all the leaves were out on the trees. As well, in Oregon, all the foliage was green but it was Feb./Mar. according to the time-line with the dogs.

  • Continuity: When Jerry is doing introductions of the dogs at the beginning of the expedition both Malamutes are on the right side of the main line. And in the next shot Buck is on the left of the main line and Shadow on the right.

  • Errors in geography: When Jerry is in Pasadena, there is a tree growing outside of Dr. McClaren's house that is heavily covered in moss. Hardly vegetation typical of California, but very much common to Vancouver, where the movie was filmed.

  • Factual errors: The months corresponding to winter are all wrong for Antarctica. Presumably, this was done to make it easier on Northern Hemisphere countries (like the US) to know what season it was. However, Antarctica is in the southern hemisphere and their seasons are backwards from the northern hemisphere. March would not fall into the winter months in the southern hemisphere.

  • Continuity: The position of the rope in Maya's mouth changes as she takes it to the doctor after he falls through the ice.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: The Otter airplane is obviously powered by a turbine engine with an elongated nose and a turbine exhaust pipe, but the sound is that of a piston engine.

  • Errors in geography: The full moon over Antarctica is oriented with its north pole up, as it appears to observers in the northern hemisphere.

  • Factual errors: The Otter aircraft used in the flying scenes has been converted to a turbine (jet prop) engine, as visually confirmed by the ultra-long nose and the 4 bladed paddle propeller. The movie engine sound effects are those of a standard reciprocating (gasoline) engine, which would have a very short round nose and a 3 blade prop.

  • Continuity: When the dogs offer the injured Maya a seagull, the amount of snow on her head changes from shot to shot, then disappears completely.

  • Continuity: When "Max" brings the ball back from "right field", he drops the ball and it rolls away. The camera cuts to a wider shot with Jerry & "Max", and "Max" drops the ball again.

  • Errors in geography: The bar is supposedly located in Christchurch, New Zealand, however, it is obviously located in Canada. The beer taps behind the bar show Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale (brewed in Nova Scotia) and Kokanee (brewed in BC) - two VERY Canadian brands.
