Ashley Greene: Interview with 'New Moon's' Alice Cullen

28 November 2009 4:45 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Nothing like a role in Twilight to break you into show business. That's the case for Ashley Greene, who had spent most of her time in Hollywood as a hostess in an L.A. restaurant prior to her fame-making role as Alice Cullen. The Floridian native just finishing touring the country in support of New Moon and she'll start filming the horror film Apparition in Berlin in February. We chatted with Greene days before New Moon started breaking records. Are the reactions to Twilight the same all around the country? I was impressed in Chicago, actually. Chicago was really, really »

Will Hawkeye Be In ‘Thor’ And ‘The Avengers’… And Will This Guy Play Him?

27 November 2009 9:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, North Country) recently spoke with Empire magazine, and he hinted at a possible role for him in the Marvel universe. The Empire chaps suspected the hero in question was Captain America, but Renner surprised them when he revealed instead that he may be up for Hawkeye. I don’t know if I’d be right for Captain America... I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn... he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.” I'm no real comic-book fan, but even with my limited knowledge of the characters I'd have to agree with Renner's assessment. Hawkeye is probably most similar to DC's Green Arrow, a hero who preceded him by over twenty years, but he's definitely the cooler of the two. Both men lack any true special powers, but »

Vera Farmiga Interview, Up In the Air

26 November 2009 8:00 PM, PST | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

MoviesOnline sat down recently with Vera Farmiga to talk about her new movie,“Up in the Air,” about the timely odyssey of Ryan Bingham (Oscar winner George Clooney), a corporate downsizer and consummate modern business traveler who, after years of staying happily airborne, suddenly finds himself ready to make a real connection. When he falls for a simpatico fellow traveler (Farmiga), Ryan’s boss (Jason Bateman), inspired by a young, upstart efficiency expert (Anna Kendrick), threatens to permanently call him in from the road. Faced with the prospect, at once terrifying and exhilarating, of being grounded, Ryan begins to contemplate what it might actually mean to have a home.

For the vital role of Alex, whose elite travel program savvy seduces Ryan but who also triggers a desire for real sharing, director Jason Reitman turned to award-winning actress Vera Farmiga, best known for her role in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed. »

Movie Review: Trucker (2009)

Michelle Monaghan and Jimmy Bennett in Trucker

Photo: Monterey Media Picked up and added to the release schedule out of the blue, it seems the primary reason James Mottern's Trucker is making the rounds is an attempt by Monterey Media to score some award season attention for its lead star Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible III). Playing a big-rig truck driver leading a life on the road with a past that will soon come back into play, Monaghan performs well enough in the role, but to assume it's going to propel her into the Oscar race is a reach. Although it will make sure she isn't forgotten in the coming years should she continue down this path.

Monaghan plays Diane, a young and attractive truck driver we first meet in a cheap hotel room having sex with a man we don't see after the opening couple of minutes. This is the life »

Amber Heard Dishes on The Stepfather

15 October 2009 10:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The busy young actress talks about her role in the remake and The Rum Diary as well

Amber Heard is easily one of the hottest young actresses out there, in more ways than one. After gaining acclaim for smaller roles in studio films like Friday Night Lights and portraying a young Charlize Theron in North Country and, of course, her lead performance as the title character in the cult horror classic All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, the actress has continued to add to her repertoire. The actress has more recently appeared in such hits as Never Back Down, Pineapple Express and the horror-comedy sensation Zombieland, Heard returns to theaters this weekend with the horror remake The Stepfather, which arrives in theaters on October 16. I met her and spoke with her briefly during my set visit last year, but earlier today I had the chance to speak with Heard exclusively »

Interview: Michelle Monaghan Drives Trucker

10 October 2009 1:13 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Sitting in a midtown Manhattan publicist's office, Michelle Monaghan flashes a handful of fingernails painted a shade she calls "peacock green" ("It was for a photo shoot"), which contrast with her skinny black jeans and top and her zebra-striped sweater - and laughs when asked whether a studio would have cast her in the lead role in Trucker. "I don't kid myself that a studio would ever have given me a role like this," she says. "But I don't think this movie would be this movie if a studio had made it. "That's why I'll forever be grateful to James (Mottern, the film's writer-director). It's the role of a lifetime. He saw a scene I did in North Country and asked to see me. It was the easiest job I ever got. This is dream material, what you become an actor for." Less »

Exclusive Video: Charlize Theron Discusses Her Role in The Burning Plain

18 September 2009 12:47 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Charlize Theron began her career as just another pretty face in movies like 2 Days In The Valley and The Cider House Rules, but it was her star-turning role in the Academy Award winning film, Monster that earned her not only an Oscar but also the respect of her critics and peers alike. She followed that up with a strong performance in the film In the Valley of Elah and another Oscar nomination for her work in North Country. Now, the acclaimed actress is back again with a gritty, realistic and heart-shattering performance in Guillermo Arriaga's directorial debut, "The Burning Plain. I had the opportunity to speak exclusively with Charlize Theron about her powerful new performance in the film, which opens on September 18th.

Charlize Theron Answers Some Burning Questions

17 September 2009 7:01 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When so many other Hollywood actresses are doing everything possible to look good, Charlize Theron seems determined to buck the trend by playing more rough-around-the-edges female roles. Her turn as the decidedly unattractive serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster shocked audiences but earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. She followed up that role by playing a victim of sexual harassment in North Country, which also earned her an Oscar nomination. Theron is once again set to play an unglamorous role in The Burning Plain.

Directed by Guillermo Arriaga, the award-winning writer of Babel, 21 Grams, and Amores Perros, The Burning Plain is a non-linear tale in which Theron plays a sexually promiscuous, suicidal character who is forced to confront the sins of her past. While it sounds like playing a character with such heavy baggage would weigh an actor down emotionally, Theron says that it's just a job.

tMF Talkback: Get ready to be disappointed with The Vintner's Luck!

15 September 2009 3:14 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

As expected, the movie version of a beloved novel by Elizabeth Knox, The Vintner's Luck, has a different movie version. It deviates completely from the essence of Knox's story. There is no more Xas-Sobran relationship which is the heart and soul of the novel. Instead the New Zealand filmmaker, Niki Caro, opted to make it a tringle of sorts - Sobran (Jeremie Renier)-Celeste (Keisha Castle-Hughes)-Xas (Gaspard Ulliel), and even a quartet - the Baroness Aurora de Valday (Vera Farmiga) who is a sort of a nuisance 'support'.

It seems to me that Caro's film version has maintained faith with neither the essence of the book nor the story itself. The love affair between Xas and Sobran has been transferred to Sobran and Céleste, thereby diluting and and making nonsense of »

Michael Seitzman Inks Deal with ABC Studios

18 August 2009 6:13 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Drama scribe Michael Seitzman has inked a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios, according to Variety.

Seitzman penned two drama scripts that went to pilot last year for ABC Studios: family dynasty drama Empire State for ABC and House Rules, about freshmen lawmakers in Congress, for CBS.

Seitzman said he intends to pen two pilots in the coming development season, and he's in the process of winnowing his candidates from a host of ideas that he's been kicking around to develop under his Michael Seitzman's Pictures banner. He's happy to be back in biz with ABC Studios, saying his experience on Empire State and House Rules was "the single best experience of my career" as a scribe.

Seitzman set his focus on TV last year after most recently working in the feature realm, writing such pics as 2005 Charlize Theron starrer North Country.

Niki Caro Melts for Groundswell Prods' Buttercup

6 August 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- We'd have a problem type-casting Niki Caro as a genre, or subject specific director. She commenced her career with the delightful, child's fantasy with a moral at the end of the story locally set New Zealand pic (Whale Rider), followed with the women's rights in the workplace (North Country) and will preem a period piece at the Toronto Film Festival next month with the long awaited The Vintner's Luck. Now according to THR, Caro's new directing gig is a mid-life crisis, contempo dramedy from the Pov of a male character called Buttercup. Part of the 2007 Blacklist of Best Unproduced Screenplays, it surfaced at the bottom tier of the list - which means absolutely nothing about the scripts' quality, this is written by first time scribe Alice O'Neil and will be produced by Michael London's Groundswell Prods. who have the upcoming The Informant! and All Good Things as their next projects slated for release. »
