PARIS -- The French film L'apres-midi de Monsieur Andesmas (The Afternoon of Mr. Andesmas), starring Miou-Miou and Michel Bouquet, will kick off the International Critics' Week in Cannes on May 13, organizers of the festival's sidebar said on Friday. Based on a novel of the same name by Marguerite Duras, the film is the first feature directed by Michelle Porte, who was a long-time friend and associate of the French author. Set in the south of France, Andesmas is about how a chance encounter in the woods changes the lives of a man and a woman. Produced and distributed by Marin Karmitz of MK2, the film will be released in France in July. The 43rd edition of the Critics' Week runs May 13-21.
