In this episode, Zack Roswell jokes about preferring to be sick with pleurisy to being treated with mutton tallow poultices. Three months later, in The Ghost Story (1974), Horace Brimley makes the exact same joke to Zack Roswell.
A behind-the-scenes look at the production of this episode, from the perspective of "Erin" actress Mary Beth McDonough, was featured on the PBS children's series ZOOM in her 1973 "ZOOM Guest" segment. The segment featured footage and voice-over commentary by the then 12-year-old actress. (This was a rare instance of a famous child being featured as ZOOM Guest.)
The fawn used in this episode is a blacktail deer. Blacktail deer are only found along the west coast. The deer that live in Virginia are whitetail deer.
