The novelization of this episode gives Mr. Kent's full name as Greg Kent.
An early draft of the script for this episode gave more backstory to Mr. Greg Kent, along with more insight into his demanding and bossy nature:
Greg himself was a competitive swimmer in high school and college. He won a State Championship...and came up 3/10 of a second away from setting a new record. Greg's father, who also happened to be his coach, never let him - or the rest of his team - forget this; in Greg's own words, "He didn't talk to me much after that day, but he damn sure hollered at me a lot." Because his dad took his ire out on the rest of the team, they all hated Greg for it; he quit because of this, which acerbated the rift between father and son.
According to Greg, "I promised myself that if I ever became a dad, I wouldn't become *my* dad; that if I ever became a coach, I wouldn't become *my* coach. Then I became Debbie's dad, and her coach, and I made a liar of myself twice over; God forgive me for that. I simply didn't want her to go through what I did, coming so close and then blowing it. I never imagined anything could hurt worse than that...and just see what it took to prove otherwise."
All of this was eliminated in later drafts, with more focus on the Kramer brothers.

This was the only appearance of Eddie's brother, Bobby.
