Disturbing but interesting, 7 June 2005

Very disturbing collection of 6 short movies which are meant to be seen together. When non- Korean looks at this movie then it's all about compliance to western human rights standards. The question is whether Korea should comply to western values. On the other side it looks to me, that many values are imported from Euro-American culture. The cult of low weight and beauty looks very western. I don't know much about Korean society so don't take this information as granted it just looks so: Korean society seems to be cruel and intolerant. May be somebody should make some comments about society of Korea though this isn't discussion site it would be nice to see some more in depth opinion about culture of this country in relation to this movie.

I would see this movie more as (fictional) social document that as comedy and drama as it is referred (in fact the last short is based on real story). Quick google research shows that Korea is trying to make progress in becoming more open society and more tolerant society. This movie is obviously part of this movement (as it was made on request of Korean Human Rights Commission). Let's hope that this very modern country will make progress in accepting more equality and less cruel system of social control.

If you were me isn't perfect (some shorts are below average) but it's definitely worth a watch.
