Pop-idol Minako Aino (known secretly as Sailor V and Sailorvenus) sings the hit "C'est la Vie", which sounds very much like "Sailor V". Her other songs include "Romance" (a reference to the goddess Venus), "Kinsei ni Katagoshi" (which translates as "Venus over the Shoulder") and her album is entitled "Venus", all tongue-in-cheek hints to her secret identity. Minako Aino is Usagi Tsukino's favorite singer.
Thoughout the manga and anime version of Sailor Moon, Minako Aino was actually a regular school girl who dreams of being a J-pop star. The live action version makes her one.
Keiko Han, who provides the voice for Luna, also provided the voice for Luna in the original five seasons of Sailor Moon (1995).
Chieko Kawabe (Osaka Naru) has an extensive history with the Sailor Moon franchise, having played the role of Sailor Mercury in several Sailor Moon stage musicals in Japan.
There was a half hour "Act 0" released around the same time as the other 49 episodes (or "Acts") that explained events just before Act 1 - such as how Minako Aino became Sailor V. This Act also portrays Kunzite, Zoisite, Nephrite and Jadeite as police officers instead of Shittenou (Generals). Jadeite appears to be wearing a police woman's uniform and complains of sexual harassment from Kunzite. And Nephrite ends up taking pills called "Amichan 3000" (a reference to Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury's character) to calm his rage.
