After the Black Eyed Peas took up permanent residence at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for most of the first part of the year, the recent weeks have been wide open, allowing a number of interesting and esoteric tracks to make their way to the top of the heap. Last week saw Owl City's "Fireflies" take the pole position, and this week sees Jason DeRulo's "Whatcha Say" as the top song in the country. DeRulo becomes the fourth artist this year to top the chart with a debut single, Lady Gaga ("Just Dance"), Jay Sean ("Down") and the aforementioned Owl City. (Of course, coupled with the recent chart surge and the New York Yankees' World Series victory, Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" will probably topple it next week.)
"Whatcha Say" is a pretty unlikely chart-topper. The tune is built around a sample of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek, »

Jason DeRulo scores his first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with his debut track, "Whatcha Say." The song, which samples Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek," moves up to #1 from #2 last week on the strength of its radio play and digital sales. The single is the first from his upcoming debut album, which is slated to be released in the first quarter of 2010.
Last week's #1 from another newcomer, "Fireflies" by Owl City, is at #2 this week. Definitely not a newcomer and earning his second top 3 single off his album "The Blueprint 3" is Jay-z who jumps from #13 last week to #3 with "Empire State of Mind," which features Alicia Keys. Jay-z also takes the #7 spot with "Run This Town," which features Rihanna and Kanye West.
Former #1 "Down" by Jay Sean is down to #4 this week, while Miley Cyrus is also down one to #5 with "Party in the U.S.A." Lady Gaga »

R&B newcomer Jason DeRulo has knocked electronic artist Owl City off the top of the Us singles chart. The 20-year-old singer, who hails from Miramar in Florida, climbs from two to No.1 with 'Whatcha Say', a track which features a sample from Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek'. Owl City's 'Fireflies' slips to two, while Jay-z and Alicia Keys' 'Empire State of Mind' leaps to a new peak of three. The highest new entry of the week comes from Lady GaGa, who debuts at nine with 'Bad Romance' to notch up her fifth consecutive Us top ten hit. Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.
There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »

Jason Derulo has brought forward a Bernard Gourley-directed music video filmed to promote his new single called "Whatcha Say". He is seen getting cozy with his love interest, kissing and cuddling her on the couch.
"Whatcha Say" is the first single from Jason's forthcoming debut studio album. The song is sampling Imogen Heap's 2005 song "Hide and Seek". The track is currently sitting at number 4 on Billboard Hot 100, pushing aside Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" and Lady GaGa's "Paparazzi" among other hit singles.
Jason Derulo has been signed in a joint deal between Warner Brothers and J.R. Rotem's Beluga Heights label. He is prepping to release his first studio album in 2010. Beside working with J.R. Rotem, he also gets help from Claude Kelly (Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus).
"Our chemistry is amazing," Jason commented on hooking up with J.R. Rotem in the studio. "We »

Black Eyed Peas have extended their record reign over the Us singles chart. The pop-rap four-piece have now spent the last 26 weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 - 12 with 'Boom Boom Pow', followed by 14 with current number one 'I Gotta Feeling'. Behind the Peas, Jay Sean bounces back to two with 'Down', while Miley Cyrus rebounds to three with 'Party In The USA'. Meanwhile, Jason DeRulo jumps from ten to five with 'Whatcha Say', a track based on a sample from Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek'. Notable gains outside the top ten come from Beyoncé, who advances from 18 to 15 with 'Sweet Dreams', and David Guetta, (more) »

Grabbing my late-night viewing snack, the “thwrick” of the TV snaps on and I “thump” back onto the couch. The hesitant “tick…tick” of the clock is heard overhead as time seems to suddenly stop. The sandpaper, “thrush” of my jittery fingers drag the volume up on the TV; “nick, nick” the volume rises. All of these exonerated, over-the-top emotions are courtesy of the brilliant and nail-biting CBS television show Harper’S Island.
The series, being dealt the DVD edition treatment this week from CBS DVD, is a series I originally looked over this past spring season. The show, created by Ari Schlossberg, who penned the 2005 horror/thriller Hide And Seek, and from Executive Producer Jon Turteltaub, who helmed the other CBS hit Jericho, take us on a wild gut-wrenching thriller ride. Excellently these two masterminds have brought us a series that is unique and original, something that horror and »

Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O’Brien will be previewing his new Fox DVD splatter sequel at the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. O’Brien (pictured below with friend), the director of the Sci Fi Channel original movies Rock Monster, Monster Ark and Cyclops, will debut exclusive clips from Wrong Turn 3 (about another group of lost travelers facing off against inbred hillbilly maniacs) at the convention on Sunday.
In addition to his directing chores, O’Brien has also scripted Harpies, The Snake King and Savage Planet for Sci Fi. Stop by this site again over the next couple of days as we begin posting the full schedules (auditorium panels and film programs) for the Fango show.
