It's Going To Be A Kick-Ass Debut For This Year's SXSW Film Festival

10 hours ago | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

I've never been to South by Southwest. That, Fantastic Fest and Bnat are three festivals I have yet to attend. I don't go to SXSW because it happens the same time as ShoWest and Vegas is much much closer to me than Austin, Texas. I mean, how can I pass up the combination of movies, poker, overpriced clubs, fountain shows and the possibility of being arrested? Can Texas offer me that? No. Ok, maybe the poker and getting arrested part. I hear you cowboys can get mighty rowdy at the country bars.Still, it looks like it'll be a lot of fun, especially if they're going to be showing movies like Kick-Ass. Here's the press release:Earlier today, the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival announced it will host the world premiere of Lionsgate and Marv FilmsKick-Ass for its 2010 Opening Night.  A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, based on »

Earlier today, the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival announced it will host the world premiere of Lionsgate and Marv FilmsKick-Ass for its 2010 Opening Night.  A twisted, funny, high-octane adventure, based on the comic written by Mark Millar and John S. Romita, Jr., Kick-Ass was directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) from a screenplay by Jane Goldman & Vaughn. The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival runs March 12 – 20, 2010 in Austin, Texas.

Kick-Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and »

Talk about perfect timing. ‘Kick-Ass’ to Premiere at SXSW

6 January 2010 7:11 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

There are films I can’t wait for, films I really can’t wait for, and then there’s Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, the adaptation of Mark Millar’s graphic novels that has been getting such positive buzz I would pay on the spot to see it.

And if you’re headed to this year’s SXSW (South By Southwest) Film Festival in March, you might be lucky enough to attend the premiere of the film (although it did screen in rough form at Harry Knowles’ birthday party last month).

From the official press release for the event:

Kick-Ass To Premiere At SXSW Festival

6 January 2010 5:31 AM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Matthew Vaughn’s eagerly anticipated comic book movie Kick-Ass is to receive its world premiere at the ever-brilliant South By Southwest Festival in March. The film tells the story of a teenager (Aaron Johnson) who is so obsessed with comic books and decides to become a “real” superhero. Along with Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) and Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), he takes on a local mob boss (Mark Strong). It quite frankly looks a hoot: mixing first rate dialogue with bone-crunching action.

The South By Southwest Festival is fast becoming one of the hottest events of the year. It’s mixture of music, film and business dealings have created quite an unique media fest in Austin, Texas. In the past, Sam Raimi screened a rough cut of Drag Me To Hell and P.T. Anderson premiered There Will Be Blood. Is this the new Sundance?
