Bruckheimer Talks Pirates of the Caribbean 4

6 November 2009 12:35 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Last week, Steve “Frosty” Weintraub over at Collider ventured over to über-producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s office in Santa Monica to get an early look at the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time trailer. After viewing the trailer, Weintraub ran into Bruckheimer and took the time to ask him some questions regarding the upcoming fourth addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, entitled, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The three questions Weintraub chose to ask were:

What’s up with the script?

When are they going to shoot the film?

Did the regime change at Disney cause any problems?

Bruckheimer’s responses were that they’ve got a script for the film (especially if the reports are true that it’s based on a book); they’re looking to start filming next year and that the “resignation” of Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook will not affect »

Jerry Bruckheimer and Jordan Mechner Delve Into Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

4 November 2009 4:09 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week I was invited down to Santa Monica to the offices of Jerry Bruckheimer Films to check out the brand new trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is set for a release date of May 28, 2010 ( to watch both the domestic and international trailer for the film). Of course, we weren't invited all the way down to the west side just to watch a trailer before anyone else, we got to talk to two of the men responsible for bringing this film to the big screen. Jordan Mechner created the original video game in 1989 and also the more recent games from Ubisoft (which serve as more of a basis of the film than the original game, as he will explain), and he also wrote the original drafts of the script and serves as the executive producer. Mechner was also responsible for getting his video game to Jerry Bruckheimer, »

Nicolas Cage Is Broke!

3 November 2009 3:57 PM, PST | Reel Empire | See recent Reel Empire news »

Once one of the industry's highest paid actors, "National Treasure" star Nicolas Cage is reportedly broke due to the IRS being hot on his tail and hounding him for more than $6.6 million in unpaid back taxes. What's worse? Both of his extremely expensive homes in New Orleans have gone into foreclosure. In fact, Cage is so broke that he even went as far as suing his financial manager Samuel Levin last month for sending him "down a path toward financial ruin." It's also reported that a bank is suing Cage for breach of contract, claiming he hasn't paid back the $2 million they lent him in August. Poor guy. The actor's father recently passed away which makes these hard times for Cage even worse.

Ratings: World Series continues to rule prime time

2 November 2009 9:29 AM, PST | EW - Hollywood Insider.com | See recent EW.com - Hollywood Insider news »

No big surprises this weekend: The World Series sucked up the vast majority of TV viewership, clocking in at 21 million fans for Sunday's Game 4 and 12.2 million for Saturday's Game 3, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen. Interest in the Yankees-Phillies series is building (aside from the understandable dip on Saturday given both the day of the week and the Halloween holiday) as New York moves toward possibly clinching the title in five games tonight. The games won both nights for Fox, while CBS took Friday as usual with perfectly relocated Medium (7.7 million) towering over ABC's fading Ugly Betty (4.5 million). Here, a »

Inside Story: Nic Cage Blames Advisor for Financial Ruin

1 November 2009 5:00 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

How could one of Hollywood's highest paid actors find himself owing $6.3 million in back taxes and deep in money troubles? The answer is easy if you believe Nicolas Cage. In a lawsuit filed Oct. 16 in Los Angeles, the National Treasure star, 45, claims that his longtime business manager, Samuel J. Levin, duped "lined his [own] pockets with several million dollars in business management fees while sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin." That journey began in 2001 when Cage - whose next movie is the crime drama Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - hired Levin to oversee and manage his business interests, »

Does Nic Cage have the kavorka?

28 October 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Nicolas Cage sometimes gets a bad rap. Yes, he's an Oscar winner, but his eclectic taste in movies has often drawn criticism, most famously from Sean Penn, who once accused Cage of s-tting on their profession. Say what you want about The Wicker Man or Bangkok Dangerous, but Cage is either the savviest or most fortuitous operator in Hollywood when it comes to his female costars. Yesterday's announcement that Mad Men's January Jones will costar opposite Cage in The Hungry Rabbit Jumps was only the most recent example. The 'Unknown White Male' Nabs Diane Kruger and January Jones

26 October 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If I told you the next Dark Castle horror-thriller flick would star January Jones and Diane Kruger, you'd probably be interested. If I told you that the most recent Dark Castle horror flicks were Whiteout, Orphan, and Return to House on Haunted Hill ... you'd probably be a little less interested. But with the presence of two stunning blondes (and a half-decent concept), Dark Castle's Unknown White Male is starting to sound a little intriguing.

According to Variety, Ms. Jones and Ms. Kruger will join the very busy (and very lucky) Liam Neeson in Unknown White Male, which "centers on a man who awakens from a coma to find that someone else has assumed his identity, and no one, including his wife, believes him." The director is Jaume Collet-Serra, whom the horror freaks may remember from (Dark Castle) flicks like Orphan and House of Wax. The stunning Diane Kruger is best-known for her work in Troy, »

Major Stars. Major Tax Problems.

26 October 2009 | Getback - Movies | See recent Getback - Movies news »

Wesley Snipes is not alone. News broke recently that Nicolas Cage is suing his business manager, Samuel J. Levin, for incompetence that caused him huge tax liabilities and "catastrophic financial losses." Contributing to Cage's financial woes, the IRS has filed more than $6.3 million in liens against Cage for back taxes owed from 2002, 2004, and 2007. He is reportedly selling some properties to pay off the debt and going after Levin in retaliation.

But the "National Treasure" star isn't the first celebrity to owe big money to Uncle Sam. A few have even spent time behind bars for failing to pay taxes. Hopefully, Nic will avoid that fate and start building up his nest egg with the earnings from the four films he'll be starring in next year. In the meantime, maybe he can get a few tips from these celebrity tax evaders. »

The Office Quotes: "The Lover"

24 October 2009 9:50 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Thursday's episode of The Office, "The Lover," showed us a sign of Pamela Morgan Beesly we had never seen before. Funny what Michael Scott doing your mom will result in.

That's right, after hitting it off in Niagara Falls, Michael and Pam's mom Helene are dating, and when Pam learns about this, she is absolutely livid. Even Jim is at a total loss.

By and large, the episode revolved around Pam and Michael fighting about this singular issue, but it sure was entertaining. The subplot of the night was Dwight spying on Jim.

Jealous of Jim's promotion, Dwight planted a listening device inside a wooden duck mallard he presented Jim as a gift. His efforts quickly and hilariously unraveled, obviously.

Pam's first and last smile of the episode came in the first five seconds.

As always, The Office quotes from the episode produced numerous memorable lines that ranged from subtle to passive-aggressive to hysterical. »

Nic Cage sells his luxury La home

22 October 2009 9:32 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Nicolas Cage has reportedly sold his Los Angeles mansion.

The 'National Treasure' actor, who owes $6 million in unpaid taxes, has sold the Bel Air property for an amount estimated to be between $9.5 and $15 million.

Cage, 45, originally asked for $35 million for the house, which he bought for almost $6.5 million in 1998.

Cage has lost a significant amount on the property market. His 11th-century Bavarian castle sold for $2.5 million, almost $150,000 less than he paid for it.

His $7.85 million Somerset castle is on the market for $5.8 million. And his $6.2 million Bath Regency townhouse, bought in 2007, was sold in March for $5.8 million.

The actor, whom Forbes estimates earned $40 million between June 2008 and June 2009, is also being sued for almost $2 million over missed credit payments.

Last week, Cage filed a lawsuit against his former business manager. The actor is suing Samuel Levin and his firm for $20 million, alleging that Levin put him in a »

Korean Gangster Film 'A Dirty Carnival' Getting an English Remake

22 October 2009 3:24 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

I love Korean gangster films. While there are filmmakers like Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho, the one film that really opened my eyes was The Chaser, which I saw back in 2008, and is why I'm writing about this one. I don't know anything about A Dirty Carnival, but I dig that title and the plot and will be seeking it out as soon as I can. Variety reports that the 2006 film, written and directed by Yoo Ha, is being remade by Sparkler Entertainment (National Treasure) and Cj Entertainment, the big Korean company behind most of Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook's films. Chris Hauty (Never Back Down) will be writing the script. Here's the basic plot synopsis for A Dirty Carnival: Byung-du is a 29-year-old career criminal, working for the middle-rank enforcer Sang-chul. Burdened with a terminally ill mother and taking care of younger siblings, Byung-du is feeling financial pressure ... »

Dirty Carnival is the latest Asian remake

22 October 2009 12:24 AM, PDT | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

The producers behind National Treasure have bought the rights to remake Korean gangster drama A Dirty Carnival. We doubt it'll keep that name (it sounds more like a perverted circus movie than a crime pic),but it'll likely keep the rough plot intact - a small time debt collector for the triads finds his fortunes rising but his own family swirling into debt. Sparkler Entertainment (which helped bring the world Nicolas Cage's code-cracking adventures) is producing, and has hired Never Back Down writer Chris Hauty to tap out a script....

Blue Review (user)

16 October 2009 7:57 PM, PDT | RealBollywood.com | See recent RealBollywood news »

While most movie critics have done their job of dissecting Blue to be a directorial disaster and having a weak story line, what they have actually done is to benchmark it to a typical Bollywood movie.

How many of the present lot of directors would think of having the lead star without a heroine for the entire length of the movie, and go all out to make a movie that we would love to have but only if offered by a Hollywood director not from a ‘desi’ director.

While Indians have liked Jaws and Titanic, National treasure was a big hit, no one questioned the logic behind the story or any. »

Nicolas Cage sues ex-manager over 'financial ruin'

Los Angeles - Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage sued his former manager on Friday claiming that he had led him down a path to financial ruin, Access Hollywood reported Friday. In the papers filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, the National Treasure star alleged that former business manager Samuel J Levin was guilty of 'malice , oppression and fraud,' that caused more than 20 million dollars in damages. Cage alleged that Levin paid himself 'millions of dollars' while putting Cage's money into 'risky' and 'highly speculative' investments. He also allegedly failed to 'timely pay taxes, sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin.' The result is that Cage is 'now forced to sell major assets and »

Cage Lends Backing To Hospital Campaign

16 October 2009 12:11 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Nicolas Cage has thrown his support behind a hospital campaign in Bath, England to build a new intensive care unit for babies.

The Hollywood star owns a townhouse in the historic city and has given his backing to the Royal United Hospital's Forever Friends Appeal to help raise the $4.5 million (£3 million) needed as a 'thank you' to locals for welcoming him into the area.

The National Treasure star even purchased a "baby brick", symbolising the real rubble needed to build the environmentally-friendly hospital ward, and encouraged others to do the same.

Cage says, "Please buy a brick, this is the last stretch to get that extra million, and it will be a green facility which is outstanding.

"I would like to say thank you to all of you who have been so gracious in inviting me and giving me a warm welcome to your wonderful and historic city. Anything that I can do to give back and say thanks I am going to do."

Cage recently sold off another property he owned in Bath.

The actor is facing his own money woes - he recently filed suit against his former business manager, accusing him of financial mismanagement after he was hit with a $6 million (£4 million) tax lien from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. »
