Team Vampire Diaries vs. Team True Blood: Stars Weigh In!

10 November 2009 11:55 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Forget Team Edward vs. Team Jacob for a moment.

TV Guide Magazine recently asked a handful of actresses to weigh in on Team Vampire Diaries vs. Team True Blood. Which is their favorite vampire show and why? Find out now...

Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse): “I got sucked into True Blood. The writing is so different and bizarre. It’s a good mix of violent and funny.”

Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory): “Neither. True Blood grosses me out. It’s too dark for me. The weird wacky world I’m into is Harry Potter.”

Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost/V): “All those vampires are hot. True Blood’s vampires are pretty hot, but at the same time, I love Nina (Dobrev, who plays Elena) from Vampire Diaries. I met her at Comicon and can’t think of a sweeter girl.”

Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter): “My friend is the show runner on Vampire Diaries, »

New York — Rihanna has broken her silence regarding Chris Brown's February assault against her in a recent series of interviews, and the singer told MTV News that her album will have a mix of songs detailing the "roller coaster" of emotions she's experienced in the past nine months.

"It's my mini-movie," Rihanna said about her forthcoming album. "It's really honest, at times vulnerable, but it came from really, really deep in here [points to heart]. I just feel like I had to call it Rated R, 'cause it's my movie."

MTV News previewed the album on Tuesday (November 10) and Rihanna's description is certainly accurate.

After the intro, Rated R kick starts with "Wait Your Turn" and the Young Jeezy-assisted "Hard." The material matches the artwork »

Ratings: Fox down from baseball with 'Family Guy' special, football wins for NBC

9 November 2009 9:55 AM, PST | EW - Hollywood Insider.com | See recent EW.com - Hollywood Insider news »

Fox was back to earthly ratings levels in its first post-baseball Sunday evening with relocated-from-Friday fall sitcom bomb Brothers and American Dad, which, without its regular Family Guy lead-in, was down 2.2 million viewers from its last original airing, according to early Nielsen estimates. A Family Guy special, Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show, came in 1.2 million viewers below Family Guy's most recent episode and just a bit lower than the two originals it was sandwiched between this week. NBC easily won the night with, of course, sports - Sunday Night Football's Cowboys-Eagles matchup scored 19 million viewers, up almost 50 percent »

Ratings: World Series continues to rule prime time

2 November 2009 9:29 AM, PST | EW - Hollywood Insider.com | See recent EW.com - Hollywood Insider news »

No big surprises this weekend: The World Series sucked up the vast majority of TV viewership, clocking in at 21 million fans for Sunday's Game 4 and 12.2 million for Saturday's Game 3, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen. Interest in the Yankees-Phillies series is building (aside from the understandable dip on Saturday given both the day of the week and the Halloween holiday) as New York moves toward possibly clinching the title in five games tonight. The games won both nights for Fox, while CBS took Friday as usual with perfectly relocated Medium (7.7 million) towering over ABC's fading Ugly Betty (4.5 million). Here, a »

Free Flick Fridays: Lawn Dogs

30 October 2009 1:00 AM, PDT | TribecaFilm.com | See recent Tribeca Film news »

Lawn Dogs dir. John Duigan (1997) Naked Sam Rockwell, when-she-was-a-promising child actress Mischa Barton, and exurban ennui/satire penned by a MacArthur Grant-winning playwright (Naomi Wallace) all adds up to a 'lost indie gem,' according to the Cold Case sages at Movieline. John Duigan's (he also helmed the Australian flick Flirting, with a very young Nicole Kidman) film follows the friendship between 'lawn dog' Trent (Rockwell), a young man doing the landscaping in a snooty neighborhood, and the young outcast Devon Stockard (Barton). With dashes of classic mythology and magical realism, this film provides a sweet respite for outsiders everywhere, and also proves that Rockwell (who you could see in Moon, Gentlemen Broncos, or the upcoming Everybody's Fine this year) is perenially awesome, whatever the movie. Fringe is in danger of being canceled?!

29 October 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

TV Guide has released their list of shows that are safe for the rest of the season and those that are "on the bubble," the shows that are in danger of being canceled. There are a lot of shows on the latter list that aren't a surprise, such as Hank, Gary Unmarried, Cold Case, and The Forgotten (I'm surprised Cold Case even made it to another season).

But among the list of shows are a few that I didn't think were in danger, including Gossip Girl and Fringe. I know that Gossip Girl isn't a show that gets incredible ratings, but that describes The CW in general, and I figure that even if it gets low ratings it's sort of the network's signature show. As for Fringe, the ratings are a lot worse this season than last season, but it would still surprise me if the show went away, especially »

Director Fred Dekker on His Restored '80s B-Horror Gem Night of the Creeps

28 October 2009 9:40 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Exhausted the classic canon? Fed up with the current cinema of remakes, reboots and reimaginings? This week The Cold Case talks to filmmaker Fred Dekker, exhuming a recently restored cult-horror gem just in time for Halloween.

While the 1980s horror pantheon is rightly filled with Things, Poltergeists and Freddy Kruegers, the decade also spawned an awesome sub-strata of sublime B-movie genre efforts. Some, such as Screamplay and The Hidden we've already shone light on, but one unheralded schlock classic has remained in the shadows -- its VHS copies revered, TV screenings relentlessly tracked -- since it fleetingly flickered across silver screens in 1986. Until this week, that is, when, in no small part thanks to an Internet petition, Night Of The Creeps, a comic-horror sci-fi tribute to all things alien (and zombie) finally makes it debut on DVD and Blu-ray. »

Regularly scheduled programming was no match for major sporting events this weekend, with the Yankees' playoff-clinching victory over the Angels winning Sunday night for Fox with 14.8 million viewers, according to early estimates from Nielsen. NBC's Sunday Night Football was in the game as well with 12.8 million viewers. Saturday Night Football on ABC pulled in 4.4 million viewers, though it was no match for CBS' 48 Hours Mystery's 5.8 million. Now you can know when CBS sports coverage is going to run long

26 October 2009 11:03 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

It's something we see almost every Sunday during the fall/winter: CBS football coverage runs long, which means that 60 Minutes starts late, which means The Amazing Race starts late, which means Three Rivers starts late, which means Cold Case starts late, which means local news starts late. Sometimes it means that one of the shows won't get shown at all, which is what happened to Cold Case a couple of weeks ago.

Now you can be alerted to when the shows are going to be delayed because of football (or tennis or golf). You can sign up for CBS Eye Alerts, and they'll e-mail/text you when sports coverage run over.

This won't make you any happier, but at least you'll know it's coming. Though I think you can turn on CBS and figure it out for yourself.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Lost,' 'House, 'Grey's,' 'NCIS,' 'Glee,' and more!

Question: Is Emilie de Ravin going to be back on Lost for the whole season or just a few episodes? And will we get to see what happened to her? —Jared

Ausiello: The answer to both of your questions is a resounding yeppers. Better prepare yourself though. My Lost mole says season 6 will showcase "a version of Claire we've never seen before — a Rousseau-esque version." We'll be in need of a Rousseau fix since the real version will be MIA. According to a Lost insider, the French Lady's portrayer, Mira Furlan, turned down the show's request to return for the final season due to a "prior overseas commitment." Anyone know how you say "big bag-o-nuts" in français? »

Three Rivers: Good Intentions - open thread

19 October 2009 10:33 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

I hate when football runs over. I want to watch 60 Minutes but two teams insist on ending the fourth quarter in a tie and have to go to overtime. Even when it's not Ot the game often runs over, and for some reason CBS then goes to another game instead of starting the prime time shows right away. Last night they went to another game and fans of Cold Case were left in the dark because CBS didn't have enough time to show the episode.

But Three Rivers fans got to see Alex O'Loughlin and his friends try to save lives. What did you think of the episode?
