Little is known about "Mad Max: Fury Road", but director George Miller has given the press a bit of the much needed update for the fourth installment of "Mad Max" series. In a recent press junket attended by Australia's ABC News, the Academy-Award winning filmmaker opens up about the cars as well as the casting rumors.
Inviting the camera to take a shot at one of the rusty post-apocalyptic cars, the 64-year-old explained why it took them so long to move on with another movie. He then switched to address the circulating rumors on the casting, insisting that he is still in the middle of the casting process and there is yet decision made for the leading actors.
Earlier, Charlize Theron has been linked to the lead female role as E! Online reported that the Academy Award-winning is Miller's first choice for the part. Other casting speculations placed Tom Hardy, »

Mad Max is an internationally-recognized movie property, but for the next installment, George Miller isn’t going to Hollywood. He’s staying right home in Australia.
In an interview for ABC News, Miller confirmed that the long-awaited sequel will begin filming in August 2010 in New South Wales (though Australia's Daily Telegraph has reported that work on the film will start immediately). With regards to casting, as we reported earlier, it's been rumored that Charlize Theron could have a part in Mad Max: Fury Road, and that other contenders for the title role are said to include Sam Worthington or Tom Hardy. Meanwhile, Miller injected Mel Gibson back into the possible contender mix. "It could be Mel, it could be anyone," he said at a press conference. "In fact, I'm looking around at these faces to see if anyone's quite interesting here."

Warner Bros. Studios saw success with 2006’s animated film Happy Feet, about a tap-dancing penguin. A year later, Sony Pictures Animation did decently well with another penguin flick, Surf’s Up.
It’s been a couple of years since those films, but it seems as though animators are going to see if they can see the same success with movies focused on other types of birds.
Fox Animation has the movie Rio, about a macaw, in the works, and Warner Bros. Studios recently announced they’re in negotiations to gain the rights to a movie about a peacock.
This move comes at a time when the box office is uncertain, with everything from high-budget comedies to low-budget horror films being number one over the last month, but the draw of animated films remains pretty consistent.
No storyline for the film has been revealed, but it was written by Austin Winsberg and Heath Corson, »

If filmmaker George Miller had his way, Australian actors wouldn't have to leave the country to find employment in major studio films. Miller, writer/director of the Mad Max films, is prepping Mad Max 4, eyeing an August 2010 start date in New South Wales for the $100 million film.
It's been nearly 25 years since audiences were last treated to the exploits of Mel Gibson as Mad Max in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and, if everything clicks into place, audiences won't have to wait that much longer for the fourth adventure of Mad Max. Miller's aiming for a 2011 release of Mad Max: Fury Road.
In an interview with the Australian media, Miller said this new Mad Max is going to reflect the changes in action films since the original 1978 Mad Max and will "nudge the genre." Miller also made it clear he hasn't finalized the cast yet, despite all the rumors on the internet. »

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is currently in final negotiations to pick up a pitch that focuses on a peacock from writers Austin Winsberg and Heath Corson.
At present, Warner Bros. is keeping mum on the project's story.
Warner Bros. seems emboldened to re-enter the animation realm due to the success of 2006's Happy Feet. The studio is presently readying Happy Feet 2 in 3D.
Other properties that the studio might eventually animate could be Superman and Scooby-Doo.

It remains to be seen what Mad Max fans will think, but the businesses of Australia are excited that work on Mad Max 4: Fury Road will begin immediately, according to a story today in the Daily Telegraph. There is no confirmation as to who will be starring in the film, but it will most likely not be Mel Gibson. The likeliest candidate as of now is Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation) (not Tom Hardy), with Charlize Theron as the leading lady. Original Mad Max director George Miller -- who most recently gave us Happy Feet -- will once again helm.
Either way, the locals are thrilled. Some of the locations used on the previous three films, Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2 (a.k.a. The Road Warrior) (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), have become local attractions. The owner of one such attraction, the Silverton Hotel, said, (insert Australian accent »

The Daily Telegraph has reported that George Miller's Mad Max 4: Fury Road is set to start shooting in Sydney, Australia as well as in the Outback Nsw. While it hasn't been officially confirmed, Terminator Salvation star Sam Worthington is said to be starring in the film alongside the recently rumored Charlize Theron.
Pre-production is said to begin immediately, with 30 weeks of filming to be completed in Broken Hill starting June of 2010. The project is said to take two-and-a-half years to complete, and it will create thousands of jobs for Australian locals. As reported, Australian Premier Nathan Rees made it a priority to get the film to shoot in his country after losing Green Lantern, which was "an unexpected blow to the local industry."
Director George Miller, the man behind the original trilogy, stated, ""Hollywood has cut its production in half. Big movies like Mad Max 4: »

George Miller is in the early stages of casting Mad Max 4 and is considering Charlize Theron for the female lead and British actor Tom Hardy as the new road warrior. Mel Gibson was ruled out to return over two years ago, which explains Miller’s interest in finding a new post-apocalyptic protagonist.
E! Online heard from “multiple sources” that Oscar-winner Theron is the top pick. Hardy is also a great choice after turning in a solid performance as the title character in Bronson.
According to the sources, Miller is being very secretive about the plot and parts, allowing actors to audition using only one letter of their character’s name.
In August, Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner said he was “fighting for a role” in the fourth installment, but he may have been passed over or he moved on. There has also been talk of an anime version of Mad Max in development, »

Here’s the deal: The Road Warrior is an utterly fantastic film, and as a character, Mad Max Rockatansky is inseparable from Mel Gibson. No matter how crazy he might have become in the past few years, no matter how his image has been tarnished, the image of Mad Max lives on and will certainly be the character I remember him by.
And while it’s great that director George Miller is stepping away from Happy Feet and back toward the series that made him famous, I can’t help but cringe every time there’s talk of him replacing Gibson in Mad Max 4 (or Mad Max 4: Fury Road). Whether he intends to make a sequel or a reboot, I say slap another title on it and move forward. Please.
The latest scoop is that Oscar-winner Charlize Theron might be Miller’s choice to put on the »

That is apparently the word being passed to E! Online today. George Miller, director of the previous Mad Max films (and Happy Feet) is deep in the process of auditions and is perhaps leaning toward Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down, Band Of Brothers, RockNRolla) for the big roles in the film. I’m assuming Tom is or has auditioned for the part of Max himself but apparently the actors aren’t being told what they are auditoning for. I always thought Gerard Butler would be a good choice for Max but Tom Hardy has a pretty amazing resume. A new Max movie is way overdue. Can’t wait. Thanks to ComingSoon for the scoop. »

A Warner Bros strategy for getting DC Comics heroes on to the big screen could finally be taking shape.
The news comes as The Times-Picayune revealed that production for the Green Lantern film is moving to New Orleans, which I reported on yesterday.
But the hidden gem was when the site added: "Green Lantern is expected to be the first in a trilogy of films focusing on DC's Justice League heroes - the others being The Flash and Wonder Woman - before uniting all three with fellow League members Batman, Superman and Aquaman for a Justice League movie."
Could it be that Warner Bros' new DC Entertainment unit, tasked with adapting comic book heroes into other media, is at last putting together a masterplan?
It's interesting to note that the previously-shelved Justice League: Mortal movie is now listed on Internet Movie Database as being in development and set for release »

For the record: Shark Tale is one of the worst animated films I’ve ever seen, only made more painful by the fact that it quickly followed on the heels of Finding Nemo the way that Surf’s Up followed Happy Feet and March of the Penguins.
It was laughless and devoid of fun, and now its co-director Bibo Bergeron is getting another chance to display his questionable directorial talent — his knack for animation isn’t a question, as he’s been involved with films since Asterix.
The $42 million movie in question is A Monster in Paris, which, according to Variety, “is set at the turn of the 20th century. It follows a monster who lives in a garden and falls in love with a beautiful, young singer.” At least that sounds a little more unique than the transparent Shark Tale, but I’ve yet to be swayed to Bibo’s side. »

It Was recently claimed that production of Warner Bros superhero movie Green Lantern was to move from Sydney because of the rising value of the Australian dollar.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this is now definitely happening. It reports that a statement from the studio says the move is being forced by "the current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs."
On Friday, the Australian dollar hit a 27-year high against the Us dollar and the costs of filming Green Lantern have now increased by more than $20million. The Aussie dollar is being tipped to rise further and may reach parity with the Us dollar in the coming weeks.
Green Lantern - starring Ryan Reynolds - is likely to end up shooting in Mexico or Canada. New Orleans has also been mentioned as an alternative location for the film, which is set for release on June »

The title really isn’t as dirty as it sounds. Recently, Warner Bros Pictures announced they were pulling production of DC Comic’s Green Lantern starring Ryan “Deadpool” Reynolds from Australia because of the faltering U.S. dollar. With the way the Australian dollar is performing compared to the Us dollar and the financial gurus predicting it to climb to even or higher in the coming months, Warner Bros will be reconsidering all of its shoots there.
In a press statement released through Screen Nsw, Warner Bros Studios had this to say about the situation:
“The current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency valuation and overall costs. We have also had to reassess film projects in other countries as well. After working closely with our partners at the Nsw Film and Television Office (Screen Nsw) and examining every scenario, we have decided to move the production of ‘Green Lantern. »

Even though we're not an Oscar blog, that doesn't mean I don't like to occasionally talk about awards buzz. One category of the Oscars that I'm always nervous about is the Best Animated Feature Film category, which usually (and deservedly) ends up going to the latest Pixar feature (which it should this year too), but occasionally ends up going to someone else (like when Wallace & Gromit or Happy Feet won). The category has usually featured only three nominees, but word is that might finally be bumped up to five this year. It's not due to a change in rules, it's simply that there are enough animated movies to allow for five nominees. Here are what the Academy rules state for the Best Animated Feature Film category: "If there are 8 to 15 qualified animated features it triggers the category in any given year, and if there are 16 or more the ... »
