With "One Missed Call," Takashi Miike takes a break from his crazy surreal masterworks. It's a pretty straightforward (for Miike) ghost story more in tune with the latest Asian horror films like "The Grudge" than with Miike's infamous icky films. The film revolves around a group of young friends who mysteriously start receiving calls on their cellular phones. The calls are made by themselves in the near future and each call foretells their deaths. The plot is interesting if unoriginal. Once again, you get to see another ghost with long black hair terrorizing the main characters. But Miike creates some fantastically spooky murder-set-pieces that are a lot of fun. It's second tier Miike but it is very entertaining.
