The Vietnam Conflict is still considered by many as a war that America regrets, but despite the personal vendetta that aging hippies had with their Government over aforementioned war, you can't deny that it makes for some excellent movies... featured some amazing music.. and as of now, has made an excellent Videogame.
Vietcong sets you as Hawkins, a wisecracking (And foul mouthed) soldier who's tired of his rear echalon training job and has volunteered to move up to the front to work with a special forces team situated just next to the Cambodian/Vietnam boarder. The game takes you from dense jungles, thick with "Charlie" to a mountain top where you can literally hear impending death fly past with every stray AK round that's fired at you.
While it's easily to dismiss war based first person shooters as "Same stuff, different situations", Vietcong manages to throw at you a brand new experience as far as FPS's are concerned. Instead of charging headfirst into corridor after corridor with an unrealistically large selection of weapons.. Vietcong makes you work with a team and lets you only carry what a normal G.I. would be able to carry. Lately the WW2 game "Call of Duty" has been praised for it's teamwork with A.I. bots (and rightfully so), but Vietcong did it first.. and for such an unrecognised leap forward in First person shooters, I salute you.
