I’ve listened to many podcasts during the long upstate winter and one of my favorites has been Karina Longworth’s You Must Remember This. It’s billed as a storytelling podcast exploring the secret and/or forgotten histories of Hollywood’s first century. I enjoy it because Longworth spins great yarns, with vivid insights, about Hollywood stars and their careers.
But I think there’s more to why it’s popular and why I enjoy it so much. I’m starting to realize that the inevitable ups and downs of yesteryear’s Hollywood Stars are analogous to the rollercoaster rides that categorize so many of today’s careers.
It’s astounding to hear about how a legendary star’s career might have floundered at one point, only to do a complete 360 as he or she gets cast in a successful blockbuster movie. Thundering successes and crushing failures become the...

Well folks, it’s that time once again: time to spend the next few weeks arguing all over the internet about the best game of the year. As for PopOptiq, we’ve already done our squabbling, the result of which can be read below.
There was a veritable barrage of excellent games released this year, from overstuffed triple Aaa bonanzas to a couple of games so indie as to be fully developed by only one person each. You’ll find both manner of games in our list as it follows.
We’re very happy with the way the list came out, and we couldn’t be prouder of the wide-ranging, exemplary titles that our team selected. We hope you will be as satisfied with the list as we are.

“It’s funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.”
I had heard about A Clockwork Orange long before I ever saw it. I was maybe 13 or 14 the first time my mother mentioned it to me. She told me about seeing it in the theatre at a young age; her older cousin being later scolded for having taken her. At 15, she had no idea what to make of the “ultraviolence” she had been exposed to. Knowing my mother rarely talked about movies from her childhood, you could say my interest was piqued. She didn’t go into many details, but I wondered how different it could possibly be from some of the violent films I had already seen. At this point, I thought Predator and Commando were the be-all and end-all of onscreen debauchery. I also thought I was ready for anything.

The year in song in 2013 certainly was a treat for Hindi music fans. With songs ranging to straight-up classical influences, to songs with a Southern tinge plus the new grooves that hit high notes of hard rock, dub step, hip-hop, and punk-rock there was something for everyone. 2013 had some wonderful musical moments and they were not all on the big screen. This year we thought we would change it up a bit and not only highlight the best songs of the movies, we also wanted to shine the light on some of the brilliant performances that took place on MTV’s Coke Studio and MTV Unplugged. So take a dekho at our list of the 50 best songs of 2013.

There is a shocking trend sweeping Hollywood as of late! More and more celebrities are ditching the underwear and going au naturale (we believe the layman’s term is “commando?”). Keep to reading to see the ten leading ladies who wore (or rather didn’t wear) the trend best.
When Gwyneth Paltrow hit the Iron Man 3 red carpet in a no underwear required, sheer-paneled dress on April 24 we thought to ourselves, “Gee, haven’t a couple other celebrities gone commando recently too?” It turns out a couple was actually a Ton. Stepping out sans underwear is as popular as peplum these days!
Jennifer Lopez & More: No Underwear On The Red Carpet
Some of Hollywood’s finest, like the aforementioned Gwyneth, have joined the trend in the most glamorous way possible — on the red carpet. Actresses like Jennifer Lopez and Kate Hudson have gone down the sheer-paneling road in totally fabulous dresses.

Bollywood has truly come of age as far as a slick action flick is concerned. With Commando, it breaks all barriers and sets new standards. Not only that, in Vidyut Jamwal, we have found a martial arts exponent whose acting is as sublime as his killer chops. Bruce Lee from Enter The Dragon? Swedish design team Might & Delight, veterans of Grin's Bionic Commando: Rearmed, announced today they will be patching an easy mode into Pid.
Pid is a whimsical, melancholy sci-fi puzzle-platformer, and Might & Delight's first game. It's about an young boy named Kurt who becomes stranded on a strange planet and must find his way home. It's got a killer art design and soundtrack, but reviewers found the game unnecessarily difficult. Joystiq called the game "frustrating," and Paste Magazine found the controls sluggish and the platforming sections "rote" and "tired."
In a prepared statement, Might & Delight says it used feedback from critics and fans to create the new mode, which features shorter boss fights, fewer enemies, and redesigned levels. The patch -- which is already available on PC and Mac and should hit consoles soon -- also balances aspects of the game's normal and hard modes.

In a lot of ways videogames are as notable for what you can't do in them as what you can. Bionic Commando's Nathan "Rad" Spencer could swing across chasms, but not jump. Resident Evil 4's Leon Kennedy could walk and shoot, provided he only did one at a time. And Red Dead Redemption's John Marston could single handedly take out gangs of outlaws, but not swim. Adding a new twist on this dichotomy of having extraordinary, but not ordinary powers is Hybrid; an upcoming Xbla multiplayer-only shooter that allows you to zip around on a jetpack, but not walk.
I'm not sure what the explanation for this is (maybe the characters are all paraplegics?), but Fifth Cell (Scribblenauts) creative director Jeremiah Slaczka is using this bizarre limitation to add a new wrinkle to the third-person shooter genre. The peculiar controls will allow you to fly between various cover points,...

As 2010 draws to a close, we celebrate the year's 10 most underrated performances...
As we head into awards season, the likes of Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter are hotly tipped to pick up nominations at the very least, if not actual gongs for their acting in The King's Speech. Christian Bale made a big old physical transformation for The Fighter, as did Natalie Portman for Black Swan. But those two films won't come out until 2011 in the UK, and nor will The King's Speech.
The tendency is to award stuff that comes out at the very end of the year, and so a lot of good performances earlier in the movie calendar are forgotten. Most of these actors didn't undergo gruelling physical transformations or star in the kind of film that Oscar likes to reward. They were just good. Maybe not Oscar good, but they were undervalued, either in reviews...

While Tsr has so far presented many episodes of “He Said – She Said …” not many are as polarizing as this discussion about the new Adrien Brody movie, Predators. On one side, we have the She, Morrow McLaughlin, who “Loved, loved, loved it!” On the complete opposite side of that statement stands myself, a lone and unamused desperado representing the “He” side.
Plot: Soldiers, including Royce (Brody), fall from the sky and land in a jungle. They soon learn they’re being hunted by an alien race.
As always, we recommend you see the film before reading on, as spoilers are fair game. Let it begin!

It’s the episode I both have dreaded and waited for: the end of the first season of the best new show of the 2009-2010 season. Hopefully, it won’t be the end of the show for good (not if I have anything to say about it). But fittingly, at the end, we start at the beginning. This is the story of how Christopher Chance became Christopher Chance, and wow, is it a good one.
We begin with a bunch of wannabe sekrit commandos breaking into a building. It’s not just any building…it’s Chance’s warehouse. The bad guys know where he is now, and they’re here to get him. Talk about a rude awakening! But of course our guys won’t just surrender. Winston’s in hiding, gun in hand, ready to pop someone.
Flashback to six years ago, at what we now know is...

The big news Now this development really gets the antennas stand right up with all attention reserved for what next is really in the offing. Believe it or not but a major Hollywood-Bollywood collaboration is right up in the anvil and two of the bigger superstars from different ends of the world are all set to share screen space. The film in question is Xtrme City and the men in question - hold your breath - Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo Di Caprio. Yes, even though all of this seemed like a dream till a few years back, it is indeed turning out to be a reality since work is progressing on brisk speed to get the scripting in place for the film. There is quite some action on pre-production front as well and Xtrme City is looking positive at going on floors by end of 2010. If that indeed happens,...
