The second quarter of 2009 in television world is crowded with season finales including the revelation of winner for reality competitions. The period also marks the time networks are dropping their ax to shows that do not perform quite well during the midseason and will not be included in the Fall line-up. Nevertheless, controversies also surface, including a shocking revelation from a reality star about the term 'reality' itself.

April

Heidi Klum complained when the legal matters between Lifetime and Bravo TV about "Project Runway" broadcast right was not settled by the time the winner of season 6 was determined. The show was long-delayed from its November 2008 schedule. It was only on April 1, 2009 that both networks released a joint statement: "The Weinstein Company will pay NBCU for the right to move Project Runway to Lifetime. All of the parties are pleased with the outcome."

Tyra Banks Show canceled by Tyra Banks

28 December 2009 10:00 AM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Tyra Banks has announced that the fifth season of her show will be the last season of her show.

That means no more episodes of Tyra dressing up in a fat suit. No more episodes where Tyra makes us squirm with discussions of bodily functions and weirdness that we really don't want to think about (let alone yet). And those are just the two episodes that I've seen. I'm sure you have your own memories of things that happened on the show.

Banks says that she will now focus more on her movie production company Bankable Films. She says she will continue to do things that will keep women and girls "fierce." Whatever that means. (Didn't someone on Project Runway say that?) You'll also get to see Banks on other shows, including The CW's America's Next Top Model and ABC's True Beauty.

“This will be the last season of The Tyra Show,” Banks exclusively revealed to People magazine. “I’ve been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years.”

Tyra, however, won't be completely absent from television screens. She'll continue to appear in her hit show America's Next Top Model, which will return for its fifteenth season in February 2010. She will also continue to appear on her other show, »

2009's Trashy Reality Report Card

28 December 2009 7:05 AM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

While there are reality shows like The Amazing Race, Survivor, or even Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List garnering praise and Emmys for their quality level or American Idol, America's Next Top Model, or So You Think You Can Dance giving real people with potential to fulfill their dreams, trashy reality shows appear like the black sheep of the family. They are loud, brash, and sleazy. Like a car crash, you can't help but turn and look.

For reality television, 2009 has provided some of the biggest reasons why reality television gets a bad reputation. Four cable channels have become festering points for Trashy Reality in 2009: VH1, E!, MTV, and We.

Kaleidoscope 2009: Important TV Events (Part 1/4)

28 December 2009 2:33 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Struck by recession, the TV world ceased to inflate a full-blown season in 2009. In order to keep the budget slim, many shows reluctantly reduced the number of star appearances and the networks were forced to carefully select those which will gain them profit and ratings. This led to many actor exits as well as mediocre show cancellations. AceShowbiz is taking its readers for a time travel to the year that was particularly hard on entertainment industry, beginning with the first quarter.

January

What started with a big bang, "Prison Break" had to swallow bitter pill when Fox decided to pull the plug after four years in the running. The series starring Wentworth Miller took a sharp plunge in the transition from third (8.2 million) to fourth (5.3 million) season, which prompted the network to order two additional episodes as a mean of conclusion to the whole drama. 'American Idol,' 'Human Target' swap timeslots

21 December 2009 12:12 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Fox has decided against keeping "American Idol" in the 8 o'clock timeslot on Wednesdays this season, which means "Human Target" is getting a new home too.

The network had originally planned to air Wednesday's "Idol" at 8 p.m. Et, followed by "Human Target" at 9, which would presumably feed a big audience into the new action series starring Mark Valley. Now, though, Fox has decided to flip the two shows -- but not before "Human Target" gets one post-"Idol" airing, the network confirms to Zap2it.

"Target" is still set to debut at 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, following Fox's NFL playoff coverage (which will provide another big lead-in). It will then follow an "American Idol" audition show at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, before moving to 8 p.m. Wednesdays starting Jan. 27.

The move from 9 to 8 p.m. will deprive "Human Target" of the "Idol" feeder audience, but it also puts the show in a less competitive timeslot. »

Anand Jon Goes From 'Top Model' to Behind Bars

Fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander used to be the toast of New York's fashion scene and a former contestant on "America's Next Top Model". Alexander had some pretty big plans in store for himself, unfortunately, he didn't realize that those plans involved him being behind bars. The 35-year-old fashion designer was sentenced to 59 years to life in prison after being convicted of undressing young girls behind closed doors. Alexander was also found guilty of assault against women that he lured. The women came in hope of landing modeling gigs with their ages ranging from 14 to 21. The designer claimed it was all a conspiracy at one point, but a judge at the time of his trial said “You have not convinced me that there’s a conspiracy, all right? There’s nothing before me right now that substantiates that.” Check out Anand's photo inside!
