Bassnectar took to Twitter yesterday to casually drop a bombshell on his fans, revealing that a new album titled Unlimited is set to be released on Friday, June 3rd. The announcement of the twelfth studio album comes as a pretty huge surprise, as the superstar producer and DJ revealed the news without any prior hype.
A follow up to last year’s Into the Sun LP, Unlimited will be the third studio album Bassnectar has dropped in the last three years. The basshead leader has kept busy in the interim, however, headlining a number of the biggest electronic music festival’s across the country, including Mysteryland USA and Electric Zoo.
While a private link to the new album had spread around the internet, it has since been taken down, meaning fans will just have to wait a few more days to get their first taste of new Bassnectar material. Suffice it to say,...

If there’s a problem with Lorin Ashton A.K.A. Bassnectar releasing what he calls a “mixtape” instead of an album, it’s that his actual albums have already set the bar pretty high.
It’s by no accident that he’s amassed a greater following than almost any other bass music artist in the world, after all. His layered and borderline metaphysical style of electronic music has found its way to his devoted fan base in the form of dozens of albums since his 2001 debut, each of which he finely tunes to a neurotic extent. As such, on the off occasion that he breaks the pattern to put together what amounts to a hobby album of sorts he must expect some measure of disapproval from fans.
And to be fair, it seems that he did. In a Rolling Stone interview that came out around the time he released...

Normally I wouldn’t bother too much with Brian A Miller’s essentially direct-to-dvd action movie “The Prince,” because let’s face it looks kinda generic, but what did pique my interest was that it co-stars Rain, the South Korean pop singer turned actor who starred in 2009′s way underrated “Ninja Assassin.” Rain recently starred in the thriller “Soar Into the Sun,” which was pretty entertaining also. Here, he’s playing a bad guy to Bruce Willis’ main bad guy, and you can check out a trailer for the film below. As for the movie, it’s about “a retired assassin [who is] drawn back into the life he gave up when his daughter is kidnapped. To rescue her, he must confront his former rival.” Kinda like Liam Neeson in “Taken” sans Albanians, but with Bruce Willis instead. Fair trade, I guess. The flick stars Patric, Willis, John Cusack, Rain, Jessica Lowndes,...

Kick the holiday blues and start off the new year with a bang with one of Hollywood’s greatest action heroes!
The holiday season is supposed to be a joyous time, even for those who don’t celebrate any particular holiday. It’s a time when we are all reminded to be a little kinder, a little gentler, a little more filled with the spirit of giving. But, the sluggish traffic, packed store aisles, and constant cacophony of carols and jingles during the holiday season is enough to make even the most festive among us get a little stressed out. If you’re feeling that way, even if only a little, we have the cure for you: eight hours of finger-breaking, head-smashing, body-cleaving, shotgun-blasting action from Hollywood’s hardest zen warrior, Steven Seagal!

Kim Dong-weon’s high-flyin’ and very slick Korean blockbuster “Black Eagle” (aka “R2B: Return to Base”, before it adopted “Soar Into the Sun” briefly, and is now “Black Eagle” for International consumption) is parts wacky comedy and parts “Top Gun”. The film follows a fellow name Tae-hoon (“Ninja Assasin’s” Rain), a hotshot Air Force pilot who does hotshot stuff like perform illegal aerial stunts, buzz the tower (that old thing), and look totally awesome in black aviator shades. And of course, he cruises around on a motorcycle, though he must have sold that motorcycle because once we get the gratuitous shot of Tae-hoon riding around on it early in the film, we never see the bike again. Gee, I hope he didn’t crash it or anything, cause that was one sweet looking bike. Being the renegade pilot he is, there is of course friction between the, ahem,...

First off, Twitch has brought online the first footage from Ning Hao's The Host 2 after we were all tricked over four years ago when someone cut a commercial French electric company to look like a teaser trailer for the long-gestating sequel to Bong Joon-ho's 2007 creature feature that generated worldwide acclaim (though I wasn't a huge fan). There is no word on what direction the sequel will go, but the charm of the original was in that it managed to wedge in some social and political commentary while entertaining audiences with an all-out monster flick. The monster aspect, however, can certainly be confirmed as this first look at The Host 2 is all visual effects and includes a breakdown of said effects after the clip plays. Al Young at Twitch writes: "The CG effects were produced domestically by Macrograph, the VFX company behind R2B: Return to Base (aka Soar Into the Sun...

Horror movies spawn sequels at a steady clip. Even creature films that don.t do so well at the box office usually trigger at least one follow-up, so long as the budget can be kept in check. So while the South Korean monster movie The Host only banked $2.2 million back in 2006, overwhelmingly positive reviews convinced producers that a sequel was in order. The Host 2 allegedly will detail another mutant creature born of the radioactive Asian seas. A new clip showing footage from the film has been embedded over on Twitch Film. There.s also some behind-the-scenes interview footage elaborating on how they cam up with the monster who wanst to feed on innocent children. Check it out below: Twitch says that the CG effects in the clip were handled by Macrograph, a company whose previous credits include Soar Into the Sun and A Chinese Ghost Story. The first footage from The Host 2 has hit the web. Check it out below.
In this first clip, a terrifying fish-looking monster chases after an innocent family, and later after a couple of children. After the clip is over, there’s a cool breakdown of the visual effects, before and after they were inserted.
The CG effects were produced by Macrograph, the VFX company behind Soar Into the Sun, A Chinese Ghost Story and Stephen Chow’s upcoming Journey to the West.
The first Host (released in 2006) tells the story of a monster that emerges from Seoul’s Han River and focuses its attention on attacking the people. One victim’s loving family does what it can to rescue her from its clutches. The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival that year, and received positive reviews in the States. Even Quentin Tarantino listed The Host as one of his favorites.

The Host, directed by Bong Joon-ho (who is now directing Snow Piercer, starring Chris Evans) was a huge success back in 2006. The film was very unique and quite great, because of an interesting story and characters. The sequel was announced in 2007, but it seems that we can finally expect to see it sometime in 2013. Although Rain isn’t wearing sunglasses in the latest teaser poster for director Kim Dong-Won’s upcoming aerial action flick “Soar Into the Sun”, I’m still fairly certain that the film is going to be entertaining. I’m getting a strong “Top Gun” vibe from the promotional material I’ve seen thus far, which could work in the film’s favor. And the less Rain reminds me of Tom Cruise, the better. Otherwise, let the pretty guy fly and jet and blow stuff up. I’ll watch it. Here’s an intriguing plot synopsis: A South Korean Elite Black Eagles Air Force pilot Tae-hun finds himself transferred to a combat flying unit after a cocky, unplanned, and dangerous air show demonstration. Featuring thirteen tracks including an electro-pop song Elizabeth Banks sings called, "The Hormone Song" (a little bit of which you can hear here, it's geniusly retarded) the soundtrack features songs by Chiddy Bang, Black Lips, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, David Gray and newcomers Sleeper Agent and Graffiti6. The disc also features a Jimmy Buffett cover band A1A, as well as two previously unreleased tracks, NiRé All Dai’s “Inside Out” and A Fine Frenzy’s “Now Is The Start ” (since versions are already out, we assume they're slightly different from the album ones).
"What To Expect When You're Expecting" hits theaters nationwide on May 18th.

In Defence Of: Above The Law (1988, Davis) Nowadays, we know Steven Seagal as the aging, overweight Dtv star from such flops as Belly Of The Beast, Attack Force and Into The Sun. His career has slowly but surely been whittled down by rumours of sexual mischief, debt and apparent dealings with the CIA and the mob. Not too mention the fact that the man has really and truly let himself go physically. With all of that in mind, it's almost bittersweet when you realize that Steven Seagal was once an A-list action star. From 1988 to 1996, Seagal starred alongside such Hollywood heavy-hitters as Kurt Russell, Tommy Lee Jones and Halle Berry in blockbuster action films that grossed a lot of money. And one of those films is today's Ido... Released in the Summer of 1988 in the United States, Above The Law (simply titled Nico in other territories), starred newcomer Steven Seagal as Nico Toscani,...

Singer Jamie Scott and DJ Tommy D create a fresh sound on debut album Colours.

Back in 2008, Jamie Scott was a solo artist trying to gain attention for his simple, melodic folk tunes. But then a friend introduced him to producer and DJ Tommy D (who had already made a name for himself as a beatmaker for the likes of Kanye West, Jay-z and Alicia Keys), and though they came from drastically different backgrounds, the Brits managed to come together for a fresh, funky collaboration they call Graffiti6.
The group became an immediate hit in their home country with their debut single "Stare Into the Sun," and their first album Colours has gained an audience on the shores of the United States. The duo knew they had something right away, as "Stare Into the Sun" — a hit single in the U.

It’s lucky 13 for the Antimatter Film Festival in Victoria, BC. That is, their 13th annual fest is all set to run on Oct 8-16. That’s nine mind-blowing nights of experimental short films, live film performances and culture-shattering documentaries.
The fest kicks off on the 8th with a 16mm screening of Sergei Eisenstein’s classic silent film Battleship Potemkin that will be accompanied by a live soundtrack by DJ-son Bitter Herbs [Jason Flower]. The people’s revolution never sounded so funky! Then, the fest concludes on the 16th with the event “Uzos [Underwater Zombies from Outer Space]” and will feature performances by Ryan Beattie, Atomic Vaudeville, Slut Revolver, Wes Borg and more.
Smooshed between those two events will be the debut feature film by acclaimed ethnographic filmmaker Ben Russell, Let Each One Go Where They May, which documents the amazing recreation of a bold escape made by slaves. Other feature length documentaries screening are: Teen Routines,...

Nasa's prepping its Solar Probe Plus mission for a firey sundive. It's no theatrical stunt--it's all about science and understanding how our sun works, which doesn't make it a bit less awesome.
Sometime before 2018, a Nasa mission dubbed Solar Probe Plus will rocket into the skies over Earth, spin speedily through the inky, starry void for a hundred million miles, and then it's programmed to crash. Into the sun. Well, not exactly crash, but its mission is no less spectacular than this.
Solar Probe Plus is, as Nasa notes, "unprecedented." It's in its early stages of planning, and Nasa's just completed an important milestone: Selecting five scientific payloads from a field of thirteen which were shortlisted last year. These five missions will measure electrons, protons and helium ions in the solar wind, produce amazing wide-field 3-D images of the Sun's corona, detect the electromagnetic shock-wave concussions and fields in the solar atmosphere,...

Here are seven of the most horrifying things found in homes of hoarders on "Hoarders." I don't watch this show as often as I like because I don't have cable and no one is ever thoughtful enough to upload it to the internet, but Is That Really True about people hoarding Their Own Poop? Aggghhh! (Cracked)

Today marks an interesting cosmic date in the universe of the Beatles, as it is the birthday of the late John Lennon. Born in Liverpool in 1940 (in the middle of a German air raid at the height of World War II), Lennon lead a hardscrabble childhood but loved music (especially early American rock and roll) and ended up fronting the most inventive and important bands in the history of pop music. As the recent release of "The Beatles: Rock Band" has proven, the band's influence still runs quite deep, from Pearl Jam to Silversun Pickups to Jack White to TV on the Radio. Lennon was tragically cut down in 1980 by a disturbed guy named Mark David Chapman. Lennon was survived by his wife Yoko Ono (who just released a new album) and his two sons, Sean and Julian.
Strangely, today is also Sean Lennon's birthday (he turns 34 today). He...
