The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Moon of the 15th (of the lunar month).
To fully appreciate this movie, one needs to know the not-so-favorite part of the Chinese culture, namely, the traditional Confucian teaching in which the marriage can only be allowed when both family has equal status. This dross of the tradition that reigned China for thousands of years did not end after the commie took over, instead, it just merely changed to another form: instead of financial, economical, and social status in the traditional Confucian teaching, the new replacement was political status, which is exactly the cause of the daughter's parents in this movie wanting her to marry somebody else instead of the one she really loves.
