Opening credits include clips of Ferrell as local tv anchorman "Ron Burgundy" prepping before the camera and reciting some warm-up lines. Some back-and-forth communication between the stage manager and Ron, who does not realize he is already live on the air. A voiceover next explains (over footage of entire news team) the context--this is the 1970s, news was totally dominated by men, etc., and the other three news on-air characters are introduced, "Champ," who does sports, "Brick," who does the weather, and "Brian Fantana," who does on-location reporting. We see Ron do most of an evening broadcast, in which residents of San Diego are shown fawning over him and in rapt adoration. Later, the news team is at a swim/bbbq party, drinking and socializing, and Ron is mesmerized by a blonde woman (Christina Applegate).
