First Behind the Scenes Look at Dinner for Shmucks with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell

17 December 2009 2:10 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

For some reason, we haven't heard much about the upcoming Dinner for Shmucks starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, so this bit of news comes as a pleasant surprise. The film is a remake of the French comedy Le dîner de cons (which has a not-so-nice title when translated), and will be directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents). The last we reported on Shmucks was in 2007, with Sacha Baron Cohen attached to star. Obviously, those plans fell through, but I honestly think it's for the better. Finally, we're going to get a chance to see Rudd and Carell together again after The 40 Year Old Virgin and Anchorman. The cast also features Zach Galifianakis and Ron Livingston. MTV has a short clip featuring the pair chatting about the film, check it out after the break --- along with a look at the film's plot. According to Wikipedia, »

The 10 Most Memorable Performances of the Decade

16 December 2009 7:57 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As a part of Fsr's Decade in Review I've been tasked with coming up a list of the most memorable, landmark performances since 2000.  Since I wanted the list to be only 10 performances I had to set out a string of criteria to follow. 1. If the performance happened before 2005, why has it stuck with us?  Likewise, if it occured after 2005, why will we remember it? 2. No impersonations -- as good as Jamie Foxx and Jaoquin  Pheonix may have been in their biopics, I have to give more credit to original creations here.  You may not agree with my logic, and that's fine, but don't expect to see famous celebrity impersonations here.  Foxx's performance will never be more memorable than the man himself, so why would it be a defining performance? 3. Academy Awards do not help your chance of being on this list.  For example, in ten years we won't remember what movie Renee Zellweger won an Oscar for »

Paul Rudd And Steve Carell Invite You To 'Dinner For Schmucks'

'Who's the real schmuck in this?' Rudd asks about the cast, which also features Carell and Zach Galifianakis.

Look up the word "schmuck" in the dictionary and you'll learn that it comes from the Yiddish "shmok," meaning "A clumsy or stupid person; an oaf" or — more literally — male genitalia. It probably goes without saying that you wouldn't want to break bread with a bunch of them.

Look up "Dinner for Schmucks," and you'll see it's an upcoming film starring Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and "Hangover" breakout Zach Galifianakis. In essence, three funny dudes who anybody would be lucky to sit down to a meal with. And when we visited the set recently, we got an appetizing tease of what promises to be a tasty meal.

Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg Explore Each Other's Turf In 'The Other Guys'

'It's a great feeling of self-esteem to walk around these streets with a badge and a gun,' Ferrell says of playing his first cop.

When your life is in danger, you hope cops like Riggs and Murtaugh from the "Lethal Weapon" movies will be on your side. If the bad guys are making their move, you want John McClane, Serpico or Axel Foley to come to the rescue. They're the best of the best, the top cops.

But when MTV News visited the set of an upcoming movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, we learned that their film isn't about those types of policemen. Instead, the 2010 comedy, featured on MTV's "Behind the Screen" on Wednesday (December 16), is about "The Other Guys."

Best of the Decade #15: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

9 December 2009 6:29 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Of all the movies that will appear on this list, I have to believe this choice will be the most controversial, as comedy is perhaps the most subjective of all genres. There are dozens of other similarly styled comedies from the '00s which also succeeded at the box office, and our individual lists may actually rank some of them higher. However, for a consensus list, it is Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy that stands tall. Will Ferrell has to be one of the main reason Anchorman sticks out when choosing a comedy to represent the '00s. While he (and many others) eventually went through a backlash, there is no question in my mind that Will’s legacy will be as the actor most associated with comedy in the 00s, and Anchorman is his calling card. Of note is the endless roster of '00s comedy bigwigs in »

Beverly Hills, California — It's a scene that could make Red Sox fans cheer, Yankees supporters shudder in fear and other moviegoers laugh. Oscar-nominated actor-turned-funnyman Mark Wahlberg can't wait for the world to see him gunning down Derek Jeter.

"It's phenomenal," Wahlberg told us recently of his comedic turn alongside Will Ferrell in "The Other Guys," a currently filming flick about two boneheaded cops. "They wrote me the sickest role ever; I just get to go bananas on everybody."

Directed by "Anchorman" mastermind Adam McKay, the flick features appearances by everyone from Dwayne Johnson to Samuel L. Jackson to Paris Hilton and Michael Keaton. But a recently leaked photo revealed the cameo by the New York Yankees shortstop on what Wahlberg called one of his favorite days ever on a set. »

Will Ferrell: 'My dream is to play Simon Cowell'

The Anchorman actor has claimed his greatest ambition would be to portray the X Factor and American Idol judge on the big screen

Some might say the past couple of years have proven fallow ground for Will Ferrell compared to early successes in the likes of Anchorman and Zoolander, but the Us comic may just have rediscovered his mojo. In an interview in today's Sun he touts himself as the perfect choice to play Simon Cowell in a biopic of the reality TV kingpin.

Ferrell claimed, possibly tongue in cheek, that it was biggest ambition was to play the creator of X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, who also appears on American Idol in the Us.

Ferrell Wants To Play Cowell

2 December 2009 4:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood actor Will Ferrell has found his "dream role" - he wants to play Simon Cowell in a biopic of the music mogul's life.

Ferrell admits he's become transfixed with the American Idol judge, and he's hoping to find a script that will allow him to bring his 'Mr Nasty' impersonation to the big screen.

He says, "I would love to play Simon Cowell in a movie - heck, I would love it. It would be my dream role. He's become a legend in five years, nobody knew who he was five years ago and now he's one of the most famous people on TV."

Ferrell is convinced he would be the perfect choice to play Cowell in a film, because he can see similarities between the TV star and his character from 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

He adds, "It wouldn't be that hard for me to play him because I see a lot of Ron Burgundy in Simon Cowell. Like Simon, Ron was the biggest thing on TV, loved himself - they are like long-lost twin brothers separated at birth. It would be fun getting into character as well. I would walk along the street and say, 'Hey, you're too fat to be a star,' or go to a concert and shout out to the artist, 'Never gonna happen.'"

The comedian has even issued an appeal to the talent show judge to consider him if there is ever a Simon Cowell film in the works: "Come on, Simon. You know it would be fun. I could spend some time shadowing you. We could spend time in your mansion in high trousers and black, round-neck tees just being rude to people, it would be great." »

iTunes Review: Land of the Lost

29 November 2009 9:12 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Land of the Lost is the latest movie to be gifted to us by NBC Universal. The movie stars Will Ferrell, Anna Friel, Danny McBride and John Boylan and is directed by Brad Silberling. Ok, so where do I start with this one. I guess I begin by telling you that I’m not the biggest Will Ferrell fan in the world so this review may, in part be influenced by that fact. That said, I have found him very funny in The Anchorman and Wedding Crashers.

Land of the Lost is about Dr. Rick Marshall (Ferrell), a ridiculed physicist who, after inventing a device to move between alternate universes, is sucked into a space-time vortex with his assistant (Anna Friel) and a tour guide (Danny McBride). In this alternate universe, the trio make friends with a primate named Chaka (Jorma Taccone), their only ally in a world full of dinosaurs and other fantastic creatures. »

Will Ferrell Is The Most Overpaid Stars As Per Forbes Magazine

22 November 2009 2:55 AM, PST | Gossipvita | See recent Gossipvita news »

The 'Elf' actor and comedian topped the annual list by Forbes magazine, which calculated how much moviemakers earn per dollar paid to their lead actor.

After the last couple of funnyman Will's films - 'Semi-Pro' and 'Land of the Lost' - bombed at the box office, his rate of return has dropped to $3.29 for every dollar of Will's fee. This contrasts greatly with the other end of the scale, which saw Shia Labeouf named as the Best Actor for the Buck in August, earning studios an average of $160 for every dollar he was paid. Behind Will on the Most Overpaid list was British actor Ewan McGregor, while Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson all made the top ten. However, Will could turn his box office figures around as he recently revealed he wants to make a sequel to 'Anchorman', one of his most successful films to date, »

Will Ferrell tops Hollywood's most overpaid list

20 November 2009 5:19 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The star of Elf and Anchorman zooms up from No 9 last year in the Forbes annual list on account of the box-office disappointment of this summer's Land of the Lost

A year is a long time in Hollywood. This time 12 months ago, Will Ferrell was sitting pretty as one of America's most bankable comic actors, renowned for his pitch-perfect impression of George W Bush. Today there is a new man in the White House and Ferrell has just been named as the industry's most overpaid star.

Ferrell, 42, topped the Forbes annual list of overpaid Hollywood actors, shooting up from No 9 in last year's rankings largely on account of his flop film Land of the Lost, which failed to recoup its $100m (£60m) budget.

Britain's Ewan McGregor finished in second place. His latest film, Amelia, has so far earned just $13.3m from a budget of $40m.
