Masters of Horror originally aired on Showtime and being a fan of the genre
i had to check it out.
It was hosted by Bruce Campbell so right there this was a must
see.
Masters of Horror was pretty much the same thing as The America Nightmare
which aired on IFC back in October of 2000.
Masters of Horror was good but not on the level of The American
Nightmare.
John Carpenter, Wes Craven, David Cronenberg, Tobe Hooper, John Landis,
George A. Romero, Guillermo Del Toro and Dario Argento appear in Masters of
Horror talking about their films.
It was an ok Documentary but gave us nothing new.
The filmmakers pretty much say what they have said before in other
Documentary's.
If you like horror films you will enjoy this on some level, but if you can
find it see The American Nightmare instead it was far better.
I give Masters of Horror 6/10

I was hoping Masters of Horror II would have tons of film clips and
some deep insights into the genre of horror. Unfortunately it comes
across more like an episode of Entertainment Tonight or Hollywood
Access. John Carpenter never seems to say anything interesting about
his movies, and Bruce Campbell is not just over-rated but boring and
dull too. He always seems to act as if he is doing somebody a favor by
being there. I guess that is his style. The best interviews were by
Guillermo Del Toro, Wes Craven, and Robert Englund. They seemed to have
actually thought about what they were going to say.
I would have preferred more film clips of the best scenes of great
horror movies and some discussions with directors regarding why those
greatest scenes were so effective. I guess that would have seemed too
much like work to John Carpenter. If you have never seen any of these
directors interviewed before, then this documentary is very good. If
you have seen them interviewed on TV or in magazines before, then this
documentary provides very little that is new or insightful. It looks
like something put together quickly to promote horror movies in
general. It is not bad, but it does not really show why they are the
"Masters of Horror."

I've always felt that horror movies don't get the respect that they
rightfully deserve. Often times horror movies are the most disrespected
films with critics. The majority of critics find them to be cheap
garbage. I completely disagree. I think that some of the best motion
pictures ever made have been horror movies and the makers of MASTERS OF
HORROR seem to think the same. For any horror fan, MASTERS OF HORROR is
as close to perfect as a horror documentary can get. It examines the
history of horror movies and the geniuses behind them. We learn the
geneses of some of the best horror movies and get interviews with the
directors (or the masters of horror) including Tobe Hooper, John
Carpenter, Wes Craven, and John Landis. Each one of the directors share
interesting stories and are quite enjoyable to listen to. Most of them
are obviously very smart men and great filmmakers. The best part of the
documentary is the fact that it is hosted by Bruce Campbell who is
without a doubt one of the coolest actors that has ever lived. There
couldn't have been a better host for the documentary. My only complaint
about MASTERS OF HORROR is that for whatever reason, Guillermo del Toro
is included as one of the masters of horror. I'm sure that Guillermo
del Toro has his fans, but he is not by any stretch of the imagination
a master of horror. He isn't even close to being in the same league as
the other directors included here.
My rating: 9/10

I saw a couple of these worthless pieces of TV at my friends house. he
(a major horror fan) showed my the one with a possessed girls who eats
a guys twig and berries off as hes still alive. GRAVY!!!!! she eats a
cat (and if u do watch it make sure you watch the cats tail twitch)and
a little girl. she might eat other things i have just tried to forget.
THe movie starts out right in the action but why it doesn't make sense
to begin with. Why is he there! who is that! to many questions that
only get answered in gore. My friend said it wasn't the directors fault
it was whoever wrote the short story. well Tom i'm sorry, but the
director has a choice on what he directs. And he should have choose no
on this. it is worthless gruesome garbage.
