Sick of chocolate, Christmas and the warm cozy feeling of being with family? Well, good news: there's another horror comic set to be adapted for the screen, in the form of Studio 407's Night and Fog (not to be confused with the 1955 Holocaust documentary of the same name).Producers Shane McCarthy and Gil Adler have optioned the comic, which sees scientists on an island military base off the Canadian coast innocently following in the steps of Nazi research and accidentally unleashing a mysterious mist which transforms people into zombie-like (at first) monsters. The few remaining unaffected have to fight for their life against fog and an increasingly terrifying foe. The mini-series was written by Matthew Bradford and Alex Leung, and illustrated by Roberto Castro. You can read the first section of the first comic over here. Otherwise you'll have to keep eyes peeled in case producer Adler can turn

‘Superman Returns’ Producer to Resurrect Nazis

Sure, it’s a slow news week. But there’s always room for updates on supernatural World War II creature features, right?
Gil Adler, a producer of Superman Returns, Constantine and the upcoming Dead of Night, has joined forces with co-producer Shane McCarthy to bring the science fiction/horror comic Night & Fog to the big screen.
According to Adler, it isn’t the genre but the characters that attracted him to the property (I’ve never read it, so maybe he’s on the right track). However, the premise sounds pretty cool:
“Set during WWII, story revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable.”
Generic but delightfully morbid! Somebody grab an issue on the iPhone and let me know how it is!

Producer Gil "Superman Returns" Adler, noted for Warners "Constantine" and the upcoming "Dead Of Night", has optioned the Studio 407, six-issue horror comic book mini-series "Night & Fog", to be adapted as a feature film.
Shane McCarthy and "Night & Fog" co-creator Alex Leung will also produce.
Adler, who previously produced the "Tales From the Crypt" TV series, said that while "Night & Fog" was definitely in his 'strike zone' of 'genre trappings', what really grabbed him was the characters that drive the story.
Premise of the comics revolves around a secret World War II government experiment, conducted off the coast of Canada, whereby an 'infectious mist' is released into the air, turning people into terrifying creatures...

Director Joe Johnston is "readying for a June start", according to a new report on Fangoria.
We must now be getting closer to news on casting, with numerous rumours and suggestions, including a list of contenders here on The Geek Files.
Fans have come up with many names, recently including Ryan McPartlin (pictured below), who reportedly lost out on the lead role in Superman Returns to Brandon Routh and plays Devon 'Captain Awesome' Woodcomb in Chuck.
Meanwhile, Twilight actor Kellan Lutz and Chuck star Zachary Levi have each expressed an interest in the role of the supersoldier.
A popular choice has been Jensen Ackles, who won a poll on The Geek Files. The calls from fans turned into rumours he had been officially approached. But the actor said:

The indie comic book Night & Fog will be developed as a movie by Superman Returns producer Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy. The news first broke nearly one week ago via a press release issued by Studio 407, the comic book publisher that released the book last year. The trade magazine is getting around to reporting the info today, likely because it's a slow news week. Me? My excuse is that I'm still digesting my Christmas turkey dinner.
Straight from the press release, here's the story description for Night and Fog:
"Tied to an unsolved mystery from World War 2, Night and Fog, tells the story of a 'Frankenstein' like infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable. Caught in between, is a security officer

Discovering that there was a comic book not yet being turned into a movie, producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have seized on the sci-fi horror comic Night and Fog from publisher Studio 407. According to Variety, the comic is set during WWII and, “revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable.” So it’s like a combination of The Mist and The Thing? I could be down with that. It’s important to refresh one’s nightmares every few years.
Adler served as a producer on the comic adaptations Superman Returns and Constantine and he’s also behind the upcoming Brandon Routh film Dead of Night, which is based on the popular Italian horror comic Dylan Dog. Adler and

'First Class' Advice For Bryan Singer's 'X-Men' Return

It's official, folks — Bryan Singer is returning to the mutant movie franchise he built up in the first place with "X-Men: First Class."
Singer's filmmaking journey has had its ups and downs — leaving the "X-Men" series for "Superman Returns," only to find that his vision didn't quite fly with mainstream moviegoers — but all of those experiences should only help the director as he settles back in for his take on Cyclops, Jean Grey and Professor Xavier's other gifted youths.
Still, here's hoping that Singer keeps the following few things in mind as he begins preparations on "First Class."
Changing History: While "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," set decades before Singer's first film, reflected the continuity of the initial "X-Men" trilogy, I hope that Singer realizes he doesn't have to adhere to that cinematic continuity. Story should come first and foremost, whether or not that means he has to break away from the

Adler has some experience adapting comic books into features, having produced Superman Returns and Constantine and currently producing Dead of Night, a live-action adaptation of the Italian comic book Dylan Dog. In the press release, Adler said that he "had to" option Night and Fog as soon as he read it.

Producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have optioned Matthew Bradford and Alex Leung’s “Night and Fog.”
Originally published by Studio 407 in 2008 as a miniseries by Bradford and Leung along with artists Thomas Aira and Roberto Castro, “Night and Fog” follows a security guard’s attempt to escape a military base that is beset by a seemingly supernatural mist that transforms its victims into unkillable monstrosities.
“When I read this I knew I had to take it off the market,” said Adler in a recent press release. “It’s a great high-concept that blends the gothic horror of the Hammer films with the sci-fi horror of ‘Aliens’ and ‘The Thing.’”
Adler has previously produced several comic related films including “Superman Returns” and “Constantine.” He is also one of the producers of the upcoming “Dead of Night” — an adaptation of the popular Italian comic “Dylan Dog” — starring Brandon Routh.

Director Bryan "Superman Returns" Singer is attached to remake director John Boorman's 1981 fantasy feature "Excalibur" retelling the legend of 'King Arthur'.
The original "Excalibur" screenplay was written by Rospo Pallenberg and Boorman, as an adaptation of Malory's "Morte d'Arthur" (1469-70), with 'Arthur' presented as a 'wounded king', whose realm becomes a wasteland, then reborn thanks to the 'Grail'.
"The film has to do with mythical truth, not historical truth," Boorman said. "The coming of Christian man and the disappearance of the old religions which are represented by 'Merlin'. The forces of superstition and magic are swallowed up into the unconscious."
Several new elements were added to the film's story including 'King Uther' wielding the 'sword of power' before the birth of Arthur and and the concept of the world as 'the dragon'.
Music soundtrack is by Trevor Jones, including works from Carl Orff's "O Fortuna" played during battle sequences.
