MARVELOUS INSIGHTS TO A GREAT FILM!
This 22 minute short is part of the "Extras" on Paramount's DVD release of George Steven's 1951 classic, "A PLACE IN THE SUN". Much of the footage comes from the "out-take" material that George Stevens Jr. shot while making his excellent feature documentary, "GEORGE STEVENS: A FILMAKERS JOURNEY". The viewer gains valuable insights into the impact of Stevens' film from his son; associate producer, Ivan Moffat; Shelley Winters and Elizabeth Taylor. The Taylor material does not come from the Stevens Jr. work, but it is excellent. Elizabeth explains that it was working in this film with co-star Montomery Clift and director George Stevens that gave her the inspiration and help in actually becoming a fine actress. This short documentary, along with GEORGE STEVENS: FILMMAKERS WHO KNEW HIM (made up of 12 interviews by filmmakers who respected Stevens), make the "Extras" on this DVD something special! This is the kind of material that enriches ones understanding of a film classic --- and "A PLACE IN THE SUN" is one George Stevens finest films.
