Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway has signed on for a trip down the rabbit hole to “Alice in Wonderland,” which Tim Burton is directing for Disney, says The Hollywood Reporter. Hathaway is playing the White Queen, a benevolent monarch who is deposed and banished by her sister, the Red Queen (Carter), who has an affinity for crying out, “Off with their heads!” The White Queen needs Alice to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch. SHOCKER: Depp Confirmed as Mad Hatter in Burton's 'Wonderland'

24 September 2008 6:35 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Anyone else NOT surprised? In an effort to try nothing new I think we can now assume Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will be a dark and twisted tale with craggly trees and crooked characters. It will have a spooky soundtrack and be drenched in a blue filter with harsh reds and cuh-razy costumes. And, oh yeah, did I mention it will also inlcude the helmer's seventh film with Johnny Depp and potentially his fourth in a row depending on if Frankenweenie somehow hits theaters before Alice's March 5, 2010 release date. Depp joins Mia Wasikowska who plays the title character while Matt Lucas will play the dual roles of Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Just out of curiosity, anyone out there getting tired of the Depp/Burton team-up or does this continue to excite most folks? Personally I have enjoyed Burton's films such as Mars Attacks and Big Fish and wish he

Aussie Actress Chosen As Burton's Alice

25 August 2008 12:19 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

An unknown Australian actress has won the title role in Tim Burton's eagerly awaited adaptation of Alice In Wonderland.

Teenager Mia Wasikowska is set to hit the big time after being picked to play the heroine in moviemaker Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's classic.

The director is reportedly lining up long-time muse Johnny Depp to play the Mad Hatter in the film, which is slated for release in 2010.

And newcomer Wasikowska, 18, will be treading on the toes of Lindsay Lohan, after the Mean Girls star begged Burton not to choose an unknown for the role, insisting she was "ideal" to play the part.

Wasikowska says, "I'm so so excited. The book's really intrigued me when I was little and I've always loved the story. I really love (Burton films) Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish."

Earlier this year, Wasikowska was chosen as one of only two Australian actresses to receive a Heath Ledger scholarship - a fund to help young up-and-coming Aussie performers in memory of the late actor.

tMF Special Report: The Year In Movies- 2003's Best!

20 August 2008 12:00 AM, PDT | From The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news

Dare I say that 2003 might just be the best year for movies this decade has to offer (my top 6 films could be number one films any other year this decade). An outrageous amount of talented and remarkable filmmaking ranging from all sorts of genres that round out the list. tMF Special Report by David Dominic Dimichele - - - - - - From innocent animation of Finding Nemo, to the ever-so-imaginative worlds created by Tim Burton and Peter Jackson, all the way to the far side of the world, each film here is throbbing with emotional sentiment and sympathy. But no other film exceeds so well at this trait than my number one movie of 2003. 10. Finding Nemo (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266543/)- Directed by Andrew Stanton It's so hard for me to take into consideration, yet alone acknowledge one on a year end top 10 list, an animation feature.

Miley Cyrus Wants Racy Nudie Role?

23 July 2008 5:09 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

I am sure there are some child actors that have made the transformation from child star to adult star with relative ease. However, none of them are coming to mind at the moment and I still have echoes of Christian Bale from The Dark Knight interviews telling me, "I would definitely try and convince anyone in my family and near to me not to do so at such a young age." He is referring to a role he played in Stephen Spielberg's Empire of the Sun at the age of 13. Well, at the age of 11 Miley Cyrus had a role in Tim Burton's Big Fish and by the age of 14 she was Hannah Montana. Since then she has posed in racy photos for Vanity Fair and been seen online in photos many consider unbecoming for a girl her age. She is now 15-years-old and it seems she may

Among this week's offerings: The pregnancy comedy goes pre-natal, the fate of all the jungle rests in the hands of the world's most lethargic endangered species, and Dario Argento has a new film, rendering the rest of this list mostly unnecessary.

Author Harlan Ellison is widely regarded as one of the finest writers of the 20th century. He is also, as this documentary readily highlights, abrasive, petulant, egotistical and prone to fits of belligerent rage. Collecting together more than two decades worth of footage and interviews, "Grizzly Man" producer Erik Nelson lifts the dust jacket off one of literature's genuinely larger than life characters and a man who has filed more lawsuits than the Aclu, proving that sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction, even Ellison's sci-fi tales.

Opens in New York.
